  • Atcs are experts at remaining calm in situations like this, very impresive.

  • Thanks for the video; That guy is a real hero in my book

  • Cojones of steel. Way to step up and take responsibility. Amazing pilot, a credit to the profession.

  • this guy is really cold-blood ! awesome, as the control !!

  • I'm not sure where people are getting that he killed the pilot ??

  • @chrigiammann make sure before u write something. Try PMDG 737NGX go on vatsim for ATC and then post your thouts. After that go for flight experiance and do exactly the same what u did with PMDG 737. The only difference is G forces and stuff.

  • haha...so funny how people think they could fly a plane just because they can use microsoft flight simulator

  • @chrigiammann actually if you do your ground school and actually fly real life procedures fsx is very realistic

  • god was there with him? Lets not forget a few min earlier he decised to kill the pilot. Thanks bud..

  • Thank God for Microsoft Fight Simulator! I probably could try to land a plane from the amount of time I spend on MFSX! It would be extremely hard.... but I probably could do it!

  • The pilot would hold his own in a "folksy"-off with Fred Thompson.

  • (Voice) "Mayday,Mayday

(Tower) "Mayday caller whats your emergency?"

(Voice) "My pilot is dead and i think we are flying upside down".

(Tower) "Sir are you sure your flying upside down?"

    (Voice) "Yes,yes i'm sure."

    (Tower)"How can you be sure?".

(Voice)"COS THE SHITS POURING OUT MY SHIRT COLLAR".

  • Good job on the controllers end.

I can see him at his BFR when the CFI checks out his logbook. "So, it says that you have over 150 hours in a Skyhawk, and 30 minutes PIC for a King Air...what's up with that?"

    "Oh, that's a funny story..."

  • Controllers and pilot A+++++ job! Bless you all!!!!!

Simmers, sorry bout you would crap your pants immediately after you discobered that a simm is nothing like the real thing. You couldnt do it.

  • lmao @ those who think they can actually fly an airplane just because they are so called " simmers " or call them self "simmers, be realistic here folks!

  • CONTORLLER WAS AMAZING, MAY GOD BLESS HIM

  • I can't help but think of my cousin Scott who's a corporate pilot. The day I got to fly with him in a single-engine plane twice was special! He described everything he was doing, and he even told me that perhaps if the technology became available, I'd be able to fly a plane one day. If we can learn to drive a fully automated car, why not learn how to fly? I get all shaky thinking about it.

  • I couldn't help but think of my cousin Scott who's a corporate pilot. I've had the good pleasure of being with him in a single-engine plane twice. He described everything he was doing to me, and I was hanging on every word! When I learned that some of my blind friends learned how to takeoff and land on a grassy air strip, I soooo wanted to learn these things as well. Unfortunately, funding for the training ran out.

  • @bg11215 i have no experience, exept for fsx. But not trying to be cocky, i could probably land pretty much any plane.

  • @iscope100 LOOOOOOOOOLL i'm most certain that you COULDN'T land any jet airplane safely with just your so called experience in Flight Simulator... it's a simulator, but sometimes it just goes way too far from reality... is like assuming you can drive a car by playing mario kart ;)

  • @daspidrr ok, whatever you want to think... you would be the dumbass to not even try.

  • @iscope100 I play FSX too for 2,5 years and my uncle is a pilot. he says I only could land a cessna172

  • @RyzonRange well it would be different when its a life or death situation, and when you know about physics and know trajectory, speed, and other variables

  • @iscope100 As a pilot and a flight simmer, I HIGHLY doubt that.

  • @iscope100 you are an idiot. Flight Sim does NOTHING other than maybe teach you a little about the instruments. How could you be audacious enough to say you could land anything when you've never touched an airplane yoke?

  • @flyauburn13 Yeah I spent lots of time playing flight sims but when I started taking lessons what was weirdest was, (1) the forces are distracting and disorienting, (2) can't see the ground for *** when landing with that wing and dashboard in the way, (3) surprisingly hard to coordinate and hold nose up in turns, i.e. "flying by the seat of the pants" :D Also couldn't tell what the tower was saying to save my life. Definitely agree, 1 hour of real flying is worth more than lots of sim time ...

  • Just incredible to listen to.Great job by the pilot and ATC.It is amazing how he kept his head about him with just alittle bit of training, and not on that aircraft.I just keep shaking my head and saying, wow. What an experience for he and his family.

  • 0.53 - it's Hank Hill!

Seriously though, Bravo Zulu to everyone involved. And condolences to the family of the dead pilot...

  • A very dramatic transition from limited C-172/182 experience to King Air 200 sophistication.

Not to mention a dead guy in the left seat. A fact which had to be a bit unsettling

Thank goodness it was VFR and no weather.

The guy kept his head and his balls connected.

    Not bad.

  • i like how he says "whiskey"

  • @ryancrazy1 Yeah. He should have said Whiskey Yes I had to take a few shots too calm my nerves. That would go over real good. Plane doing a drifting move on the runway just missing the Controller Tower :D

  • The scary thing is that this is exactly where I am in my own flight training. I know where everything is but it is like handing a nascar to a kid who just got his temps.

  • First: Best ATC chat ever.... Congrats to the pilot and ATC jeez i swear i was scared on final...

  • How many souls onboard, I know its plane talk but i wouldn't want to hear that...

  • @1968bigcity you think ? how many souls... jeez that would scared the crap out of me

  • That was amazing! You can hear his voice crack on his last transmission. The "good Lord" and him really were hand flying that plane. If he had a cross wind, the outcome probably would had been much different...

  • At least he had a single engine license. Imagine if he had no flying experience at all.

  • man, this is the best video i have EVER HAD THE PLEASURE OF WITNESSING. THANK YOU JESUS.WOW, ATC. WOW.

  • I LOVE THIS PILOT....BETTER THAN I WOULD HAVE HANDLED IT. HE'S COOL.

  • LOVE THOSE ATC GUYS...LOVE 'EM.

  • GIVE THAT GUY AN HONERABLE, AUTOMATIC, SIGNOFF IN THE KING AIR!!!!

AWESOME. YOU COULD SENSE THE STRESS IN HIS VOICE. WHOLE FAMILY WAS IN THE BACK. ANY OTHER UNPILOTED INDIVIDUAL......THIS OUTCOME WOULD BE TRAGIC.

  • Respect to the cool ATC staff and to this amazing pilot. What an awful thing to have to go through, and with a dead person next to you. I believe this guy had only started flying again just before this incident, after a lapse of 18 years. Just goes to show that the training, however long ago, will out.

  • and i thought i had bad days. everything happens for a reason.

  • The Ft. Myers Controller retires 3/29/11. Good luck BC, have fun workin on those aircraft and living out your days stress free.

  • does this guy automatically get his multi-engine license after this?

  • @anttrap321 Unfortunately, no. He would still have to satisfy the FARs. I'm not even sure he could log this because he's not with an instructor.

  • He is a life saver!!!

  • when i heard his voice at the end i nearly burst out in tears

  • This guy is awesome. You gotta remember that there's a human corpse next to him...

  • GOD BLESS HIM.

  • ampryor1 - I knew his family was in the flight. I apologize for my comment. Should've kept my mouth shut. Excessive booze, Sorry.

  • THIS ACCIDENTAL PIC CONDUCTED HIMSELF VERY WELL. SAVED THE LIVES OF ALL THE PASSENGERS. THE OUTCOME WOULD'VE BEEN QUITE DIFFERENT WITHOUT ANY FLIGHT EXPERIENCE. LOL...THIS PIC SEEMED TO BE TOO FIXATED ON TINY CROSS WINDS. GOOD MAN JUST AS WELL. THOSE PASSENGERS SHOULD'VE KISSED THE HELL OUT OF HIM.

  • @Tiggerpilot The passengers were his family.

  • Awesome job!

  • Having been a "four time" flying student of a Piper Warrior, I thought this single engine pilot did a HECK of a job! He was extremely calm. King Air 200's are Beauties! A LOT of plane, to handle! He was a real "pro" at landing that plane and saving the lives of that family on board! God Bless you, sir and my prayers go out to the family and friends of the deceased pilot. RIP.

  • Gonads of steel...I hope someone bought him a beer!

  • @shylockakita a BIG BIG beer!

  • "When I touch down... If I ever touch down... " even in an extraordinary situation, he doesn't lose his sense of humor.

  • Unbelievable.

  • he should get free tickets for his whole family for life.

  • @MissWooHoo1 ....LOL LOL, I just said the exact same thing to my husband!!!! I cant imagine how that would feel...I would have froze

  • @jej0701 and they better remember to make them first class!

  • The passenger luckily has flown a single engine plane before to know how to orient himself by landmarks and interpret instrument readings. Notwhistanding that, it's still a well-coordinated job both by air traffic controller and the pilot.

  • I tip my hat to that pilot .. well done buddy !!

  • why is he landing visial not presional he did an amazing job

  • The Good Lord had everything to do with it. Thanks to that man and his faith.

  • @adelgado85 A fake deity had nothing to do with it. The person's patience and calmness and the brilliant support from ATC were behind it.

  • @jackwalton123123

Whilst I agree a diety had no physical contribution towards this event, the man's faith did give him a sense of confidence that allowed him to function under duress.

I don't believe myself, but I can see how in moments like those it would be good to have faith, hell it might give you faith.

  • @LeftArmFast

I agree. I also have no faith, but I've seen that other people do, and that their faith may sometimes give them a strength or purpose they would not otherwise have. So whether it's unicorns and rainbows, ~god~ or the flying spaghetti monster, or simply tricking your brain into doing that which it could always do, what difference does it make? Whatever gets you the night, right?

  • Doug and his wife are wonderful people thank to God he took care of them and gave Doug the nerves to take control. He was flying and they were praying wtg guys. These two people are wonderful folks!!

  • @venitawheeler god had nothing to do with it

  • good

  • hahaha "Me and the good lord hand flying this"

  • Good job !!

  • I'm a Pre-fessional Pilot myself, of Paper Airplanes - I've Crashed everyone of Em' too !

  • how the heck do you get a 20 min video

  • @adamsawesome10 By being airboyd.

  • great job. King airs are twitchy sometimes, especially in ground effect.

  • where was the flight attendent on this flight?

  • @TheSuperagent999 this is a King Air not a commercial jet.

  • @TheSuperagent999

It's a King air 200. He is the flight attendant!

  • Everyone should at least have a basic understanding about flying and avionics, maybe try simulator or something. What this guy did was really heroic, keeping a cool head saves lives at the end of the day.

  • Everybody did a great job. The pilot and ATC. Love the southern accent of the pilot. Get'er done.

  • Not to many pilots can tell ATC theres a dead pilot next to me and I am having trouble keeping him off the controls...lol

  • that man did one helluva job flyin that thar air plane

  • very nice job,,,,, the controller was great and the guy flying was great to ,,,im sure he was nervous as hell ,,,very nice

  • Unbelievable! Awesome job on both parts!!! text book way to handle a situation like this! Especially a novice pilot landing an unfamiliar plane WITH a dead pilot sitting next to him!!! : O

  • Controller was always re-assuring the pilot. Did a great job

  • @0urGaia agreed controller did a great job. very calm and reassuring.

  • Man. This is great. I always wanted to do this but I hope I never do.

  • The most important part of this entire clip is the very, very end...you can hear this hero's voice crack under what just happened to him.

  • I'll bet he was thankin God. And so were all the passengers. What a great job.

  • agreed!!!! that summed up the whole thing!.. dude broke down at the end... kickass job by both parties

  • @muzikman183 WHO WOULDn't break down. i'm in tears just listening to it.

  • @flyindart id fly with him any day.

  • @thejimr Agreed, he just needs some more self-confidence.

  • He is a pilot too on, smaller planes.

A few shots of whiskey after he see the captain died did help reduce the fear. Alcohol calms you down and makes you just "do the darn approach and landing" on the bigger airplane. I had to do the same thing on a dam big DC-3 but with the Grumpy Captain on the left seat yelling commands to me (no headsets) instead of dead as i wished the jerk could be.

Chartered pay, single engine pilots are put to do the landing on easy weather, wind & airplane.

  • AWesome job !!!

  • This is just fantastic to hear how people that have never met each other have teamed up to save people's lives. Amazin the control of the "pilot" and amazing the confidence given by the ATC.

  • Good job done by all involved. Only a redneck southerner could've handled it the way he did. Of all the planes to be in he's lucky he was in one of the best planes ever built.

  • just git er done

  • Comment removed

  • The flight tech helping him did a good job.. I would have been freaked out.

  • great video....awesome job by ATC and especially the pax.

  • 20:57 were down buddy thank you!!!!

  • wow!!!! i read about this a while ago... never thought i coul hear it! it is amazing!

  • 17:50 "I got a dead body sittin' next to me"

I think I'd have said the same thing

  • To be the hero is always cool, but being the hero pilot is what we dream of. He should get his rating in a King Air Signed off, and Multi Engine.

  • for sure...bad ass...KING-AIR??? heheh that's no Cessna!!! lol Great Job...

  • This guy is AMAZING!! What a hell of a job!!

I could just imagine though the chaos on the ground with all of them looking in the King Air flight controls manual giving this guy instructions! Thank you for sharing this audio with us Airboyd!

  • Flying an unfamiliar aircraft from the right seat - amazing job.

  • he he..i m not bothered about the checklist rite nw..

  • @robinzee100 and he says... "i understand all that. i just need to level her out. can you help with that?" as if to say " i got it lady... you're not listening to what i'm saying" lol

  • That guy should get a free automatic sign off in a King Air. Good Job ATC and Pilot!!

  • Dude sounds cool as a cucumber!

  • so what airplane is he actually flying a king air 200 or does he has only experience with that airplane. I didnt understand that.

  • Get October issue of Reader's Digest just out this week. Starting Page 134 will explain it all.

  • he's flying a king air 200 but doesn't have any expierience flying that plane. he's a certified pilot on single engine planes.

  • good job!!! I am impressed ...wow

  • UNBELIEVABLE. This is amazing. Just think that man had no idea that he and the "good Lord" would be bringing that plane in. The good lord knew he could do it. I'm speechless. This is absolutely amazing.

  • there can be

  • lol

  • 559-er dumbass

  • lol oke

  • the guy said he flew the single engine ! isnt it?? i just hear he said that. any info?

  • ATC asked White, "Do you have any flight experience?" and his reply was "Single Engine."

In other words he had only flown single engine Cessna 172 trainers. "Single engine" was his reply because he had no time to expand on his answer.

  • He said that he had low-time flying a single engine plane.. as far as his experience level goess.

  • This is better than any movie...

  • get me rex kramer!

  • What does the guy say at 15:52 , cant make it out..

  • "I've got a blinking caution light 'press to reset', what does that mean?"

  • it is a beechcraft kingair private plane. there is no copilot.

  • Twin engine Beechcraft 200 is not required to have a multi pilot crew

  • this guy has a single engine PPL and the King is a pretty complex aircraft but he did an amazing job, im speechless, he sounded really professionnal and calm, really nice! well done. R.I.P. the pilot

  • If I had a hat, I'd take it off to this guy!

  • 8:17 what is 9DW asking? 8:29 how does FM approach phrase his question about the fuel?

Thank you, can't quite catch those.

  • 8:17 9DW is just trying to get some sort of "situational awareness" in where he is at and where he is going.

8:29 ATC says "You've only been airborne so and so" he's just trying to figure out if fuel starvation is another problem that he needs to worry about.

This ATC at Ft. Myers is named Brian Norton and he is a PRO and one of the "nicest" guys in the WORLD. And he is also a pilot!

  • K'you, now it's clear. :)

  • youve only been airborne for about half an hour is that correct? Yes. we have plenty of fuel.

  • rednecks can drive ANYTHING. woot!

  • Dave... What are you doing Dave?

  • forgot to get back about master caution

  • "I gotta dead pilot sittin beside me"

    - Slim Pickens

    17:54

  • I'm amazed by how calm and professional this guy was....dude has never flown a multi engine airplane, let alone a turboprop, has a dead guy sitting next to him and pulls off a flawless landing. This man deserves a medal.

  • man I hope that guy got a stiff drink after, he earned it! you could hear in his voice after he halnded , he was almost in tears, I can only imagine the intensity of that feeling of releif he had! 5 stars to all involved, ATC and our substitute pilot. dud they ever find out why the pilot died? all I know is thats a hell of a way to get your multi and turbine time!

  • Autopsy just said "Natural Causes"..........DUH!

  • WOW!! My dad would always ask me this question ever since he knew I wanted to be a pilot... If the pilots died would you be able to land the plane... This proves that it is possible..... COOOOOLLLL!!!

  • Thank God everyone made it. Great job by the handling pilot.

    Thanks for posting.

  • plz can put subtitles??? is a heroic story

  • He sounds like Slim Pickens!

  • Slim Pickens was a great American!

  • grate job, impresive

  • Is this a jet, or a prop plane?

  • a bit of both, its a turbo prop airplane

  • A turbo prop and a jet has nothing to do with each other

  • they both run on the exact same fuel, and have similar engineering on the inside!!

  • @Oddjob2331 i woundn't say nothing to do with each other.

  • very good job!!

  • it would be better if there were subtitles.

  • Amazing job, just dont get why they didnt put the pilot on the radio rather then the ATC.
