This background music is the BEST of the whole Doctor Who series... it's what fans think of, when someone mentions Doctor Who. It was used in the Pertwee and Tom Baker intros. Very classic.
@boofdfast Heh,heh!! Well, you may not believe me when I tell you that the three actors you mentioned are my firm favourites too!! :)
So, I simply couldn't agree with you more mate. Cheers!! The reason why Tom Baker is my top favourite is because of his unforgettable voice and long scarf of course!! =)
@theseus27 Exactly. I used to watch Doctor Who, when Tom Baker was the doctor... that was around 76-81, although he played the role longer than that... 1974-1981. Tom with his afro, awesome hat, and his trademark scarf was very stylish back then. I also think his pretty female sidekick was kinda cute, too. Cheers.
Best intro EVER!! I was watching a Pertwee episode from this season, and my teenage brother and his friend came in during the beginning, and were completely amazed at how awesome this is...until the logo appeared, which even I'll admit is a bit dated :D
It's hard to believe this is from NEARLY 40 YEARS ago. How the hell did they do that without CGI and such like?
It's absolutely amazing, and actually looks less dated than the 2005-08 Dr Who intro.
Considering the intros for other 1973 programmes (like Some Mothers Do Ave Em: a strip of yellow plastic running across the bottom of the screen and the stupid hoo-hee-hoo-hee-hoo theme music) they must have spunked all of the annual budget on this one little sequence. Superb!
@AdorableRuffian - The new intros are horrible and give me a headache to watch, as does the "orchestral" rendition of the theme. Don't fuck with perfection!
That's not right... Jon Pertwee, second doctor? The second doctor was Patrick Troughton. Jon is the third.
Still amazing though. Watched the Time Warrior recently, in memory of Elisabeth Sladen.

Ah, the "Time Warrior". "The wench is crazed. It's a pity; she's not uncomely."

@boofdfast Oh yes, it sure has to be the one and only theme which stands out from the rest!! :)

@theseus27 This intro music is so KICKASS... it was used, unchanged, for the next doctor... Tom Baker. These guys make the best doctors of the series:
1)Tom Baker... the BEST and longest played doctor
2)Jon Pertwee... very witty and cool doctor, with style
3)David Tennant... 2nd longest played doctor after Tom Baker

This is definitely the eeriest and spookiest version of the opening titles. Ahead of its time and still hasn't dated.

It's the same as how they did the Star Gate sequence in 2001: A Space Odyssey. It's called slit-scan photography.

@4642eb Much more innovative back then. CGI in my opinion is just an "easy button" for special FX.

@AdorableRuffian it was apparently (according to the person who made it) a 'blockbuster movie effect'
