Always interesting to see the Master being helpful. You know he's got some ulterior motive, some other angle he's working, but here--unlike, say, "Logopolis"--even working toward his own ends he's proving an indispensible ally, at least in the short term. The only other moment like it I can think of is when he started zapping Rassilon in "The End of Time."
watching these clips makes me wish that so many of the episodes did not get erased and lost. I wish if nothing else, BBC would release at least the story lines or scripts of the lost episodes so that those of us who were not born when Dr. Who started, could at least understand the series more than what is left to us.
@Britanygibson The audio recordings for every single lost episode still exist, complete with 'telesnaps' which have been used to create reconstructions of all the missing stories. Check out loose canon recons on google.
The vast majority of Doctors 3-7's output is available on DVD, and will likely be completed in the next couple of years.
The sixth doctor is really ok... but the scripts are awful! the seventh doctor's time was brilliant, but i'm sorry, this truely shows why doctor who had to go - only to get resurrected and be fantastic once more. even though it was improving by the seventh doctor
@88HUSE Oh I think the Seventh had even worse scripts than the Sixth did. There are exceptions: "Remembrance of the Daleks," most but not all of "The Curse of Fenric." These exceptions are few and far between. "Trial of a Time Lord" held my interest better than any of McCoy's seasons, though that's not the fault of McCoy himself, who brought as much as he could to the role and appeared to have a lot more to offer if the writers had asked him to do so.
@aperson22222 I agree that seven's era started off quite bad but by the end it was incredible, the way they were characterising the doctor as a "more than just a Time Lord" - I wish they'd been able to elaborate on that. 'Remembrance...' and all of season 26 were good episodes. But like I say, who knows where we'd be right now if it didn't get taken off air in '89.
@88HUSE Certainly Season 26 was the strongest of the three. I already said that "The Curse of Fenric" was very good for the most part, and to lesser extents that's true of "Battlefield" and "Ghost Light" as well, but "Survival?" To think that so venerable a franchise could easily have ended with the Master whisking people away to the planet of horseriding cheetah furries, as if DW were Action 52!
Sorry, I like McCoy but I find it hard to view his Doctor as anything but a diamond in the rough.
What a spectucular moment. I can't wait for The Valeyard to return....and he will return. I've never really understood fandom averison to the character, I thought he was really nasty. It's a shame that we didn't see the last episode as originally planned, but Pip and Jane Baker did the best they could under the circumstances. (They wrote the script admist their writing for many other TV series and managed to deliever a final draft within series)
@doctorw2 you do realise the valeyard doesn't actually exist. he is a point between the twelfth and thiteenth doctor and is merely a possibility. honestly
Hit "refresh" as soon as they start. This works sometimes but not always. If it doesn't work, I usually just hit "mute" and scroll down to read the comments or whatever. I agree the advertising is getting increasingly shameless and I for one try not to dignify it with attention.
Regarding TRIAL getting released instead of Pertwee stuff-I think it's mainly because while TRIAL is in fairly good shape, the Pertwee serials need a lot of digital remastering since many are not in great shape or only exist in black and white due to the color masters being lost or something like that.
As for the Valeyard, the explanation by most fans is that he really is not a 'future' Doctor necesarilly but a projection kind of like the Watcher from Logopolis.
Yeah, Darkel really should know who the Master is. There was the small matter of him *attempting to destroy Gallifrey AND THE WHOLE DAMN UNIVERSE* in the Deadly Assassin (yes, again).
Darkel is actually the Inquisitor's name. She comes back in the Big Finish Gallifrey audios plays which have Romana, Leela and K9 in them. See if you can get one because they're really good!
wait- are they on galafrey? looks like it from the head-dresses of the people behing the lady...hm- last i knew galafrey had been destroyed. then again- i'm not very familiar with the classic series
i believe the word you're looking for is ignorant? given that i wasnt alive during the classic series, i was unaware of when exactly the planet was destroyed by the daleks- the new series, which is where i joined the fandom, made it immediately aware that the doctor was the last of the timelords because of the war
Gallifrey was destroyed (if at all) sometime between the telemovie released in the 90s and the start of the new series. Whether the Doctor was in his 8th or 9th generation is unclear. The classic series never had Gallifrey destroyed.
I agree. It had occurred to me that, being from the future, the Valeyard would know that his identity would be revealed to the Sixth Doctor, so, he simply lied about what regeneration he was from.
Actually, I've always thought that the Valeyard's very presence in his past changed his history; after all, what kind of evil future self would go back in time to try and carry out a mission where he already KNEW he was going to fail?
Why bother releasing this pile of shit on dvd when there's still classic Pertwee stories to be released? The Colin Baker and the McCoy stories were the death knell for the classic series.
Right, I tried being polite but bugger it. If you don't like it then keep it to your self, nobody forced you to watch anything! There are some people who enjoy this, you know.
Ball, I'm not telling you that you have to watch anything but please keep you rude comments to yourself. Oh grow up, insulting someone because you don't get your own way is what I would think a child to do. Then again I know you don't care about what I think.
Totally. Delgaddo was the suave counter to the suave Pertwe. Ainley was an independently wealthy poseur who ONLY liked to portray the Master. How , odd, is that?
Maybe The Master isn't well know to most Time Lords. They are supposed to be isolationist, and both the Doctor and the Master would probably be embarrassments.
I suspect it was a slip in the script writers storyline though. The Gallifreyians are embarrassed by both the Doctor & Master but, they've used them both to save their asses on more than one ocasion.
