  • had this on the Atari ST....VERY nice...

  • Nostalgia epileptic fit!!!!!!!

  • I really loved that game Xyphoe....

  • Same sound effects as in the game Exolon

  • I still load games from tape on a 464. But maybe i'm an idiot.

  • Oh dear oh dear. Talk about lazy programming on the tape version. My well trained ear can actually hear that in the "unload ghosts" sequence .. 80-90% of the "data" loading is empty space. Like loading a blank screen basicly. Talk about waste of everyone time. They might as well have completely removed that from the tape version or if they had bothered to compress it at least .. cant be more than 1-2kb data there in all.

Oh well, at least i wont have to play the game now ;D

  • @CholoCPC I know mate, really really sloppy. Interestingly the title screen and music is still loaded in memory - when you die at whatever level you get sent straight to the titles! In that case bloody hell why didn't they start the music playing on the completion screen??

  • recently played it on C64 Tape, same loading hell. :/

  • @revolutionactiondk Damn, sorry to hear that. Activision must have gone for cheap cassettes and duplication on this release then!! :(

  • Are you sure it isn't pronounced the 'Ray-arl Ghostbusters' as in Real Madrid?

Holy crap, are those mummies from Oh Mummy? Those ghosts turn into snowmen upon contact with proton beams. I will say I would have preferred to play this on green screen because the orange is a bit overpowering. :P

With regards to the loading 'sound effects', mine usually ended with the dreaded 'click' indicating a cassette load failure. :(

  • @Hindleyak haha! Yea those zombie/mummy sprites haven't improved since the ones in Oh Mummy for sure! re loading issues - I have to say though, I very rarely had loading issues back-in-the-day generally on my CPC 464, maybe I was lucky but that Amstrad tape deck served me very well - especially compared to my Speccy/C64/Atari owning friends. I do remember this game having loading problems, but as I hated it I never bothered taking it back to the shop to get a replacement :P

  • I had completely forgotten about this game... I don't thank you for reminding me of it :P

Also @P5ychoFox, I had the Ghostbuster's comics too, also got the complete set of Slimer comics that were released. Can't find any info about them online anywhere though unfortunately.

  • @lorddavid3dxw I only have a very very vague memory of the Slimer comics, I don't think I ever bought them. Although I do remember that cartoon series towards the end being re-named "Slimer & The Real Ghostbusters" which I thought was a bit odd and desperate.

  • @Xyphoe I think the Slimer comics were distributed with the Ghostbusters ones. That or my Mum just bought them at the same time. Wish I could find out more about 'em. Having the whole set in pretty good (Read once I think) condition should mean they're worth something.

  • @lorddavid3dxw LOL Imagine how I felt having to play this and make this lonplay after 2 failed attempts due to bugs!!!!

  • Never played this one, but it does look a lot better than the Ghostbusters game on the NES. That's not saying much, though. :P

  • @cheetahmen92 Is there only one version of Ghostbusters on the NES? Based on the C64/Atari game by David Crane? Looks ok-ish to me from the vid I saw ... but looks like the NES didn't get a version of the Real Ghostbusters

  • @cheetahmen92 That game was also on the Amstrad, and got more play time than this one ever did from me. Though that's not saying much for the quality of the other one.

  • I had this for the Spectrum and it was shit hard! The multiload was a bollocks. Didn't know till years later that this was an arcade game!

  • @Otouto72K Would be cool to see a gameplay vid on the Spectrum, I can only find collieuk's review and as he doesn't know what to do in the game its hard to tell if it plays better or worse than this. I've seen the C64 version now, and whilst it's smooth and nice and colourful the sprites are horribly squished and blocky!

  • @Xyphoe Yeah it's one game I definately plan to do once I clear my log and start recording fresh videos again but I always sucked at it so practice is most definately needed. =)

  • I used to buy The Real Ghostbuster comic too, MASK as well :)

  • @P5ychoFox Same as me then! If you remember I did the MASK game videos not too long ago ... it was MASK and Ghostbusters I was obsessed with as a kid :)

  • @Xyphoe I loved MASAK comics and had the centre pages posters all round my room. I always liked VENOM and had the VENOM helicopter toy :)
