  • So I wonder how much more reliable and efficent steam is today up against a prius .Because I really just want to say fuck you to a PRIUS.

  • This is what america was built on, not 401k's or paid vacation or multi million dollar ceos!

  • love it so cool

  • Awesome! Great examples of steam machinery, I dont know why we got rid of steam....

    Where are these at?

  • @SmokyMtnSteam because steam engine is highly inefficient?

  • @kruppenstein HAHAHAHAHA That's funny. Steam highly inefficient, you could be a comedian.

  • @SmokyMtnSteam i know... it was heavy and highly exsplosive.

  • what year

  • Bloody fantastic! Thanks for posting!

  • simply incredible! very interesting to watch! thank you

  • This things dug the Panama Canal.

  • I thought, the Panama-Canal was build by railroad-shovels!?

  • These are railroad-shovels...

  • I dont think so, the face-shovel has steel-wheels and the excavator has caterpillar-tracks! Both can drive over land without railroads!

    I mean with "railroad-shovel" a digging machine with a face-shovel-boom that only can move a half-cirkle(like a derrick-crane)!

This are full-cirkled machines(crane-diggers) - not been used at the Panama-Canal.

  • thats something else really amazing shows how it was done i love the old stuff great video nice steam shovles thanks

  • wow, i think they could dig more in one day than 100 men could did in a week, but i'm not sure. awesome video, thanks

  • facinating machines, that is amazing

  • just amazing: Steam and digital ;-)

  • WOW, another operator that remembers Mike Mulligan and Mary Ann............

    super cool

  • That was my favorite book as a little kid.

  • The guy on the clam is really good! He was swinging so fast and caught the load just perfect before he dumped. Many operators don't even know what catching the load means!

  • sick!

  • Makes me wonder how these things work without electricity. I'm beggining to become a fan of steam power.

  • SPLENDID!! reading Mike Mulligand and Mary Ann is why I became an operator in the first place...seeing these old girls is beyond inspirational! You guys have my utmost respect!

  • Thanks everyone for the comments and views! Yes, the Thresher's Reunion in Denton is great. You can get really close, as in this clip, to the action! See you all there July 4, 2008!

  • Wow! I have seen these shovels in action many times at the Denton Farm Park, out from Denton, N.C. They are really amazing to watch, hear, and smell!

  • One of the best videos I've ever seen!

  • I see allot of work and dedication to get those things working so well.

  • It's really cool to see exactly how those old diggers operated, and what they sounded like...
