I bought an Atomic 16 in the late 90's,i plug it into a 1960 slant quad and it rocks. Ive tried all types of amps but nothing compares, "Tone that drips overtones", So today i have just ordered my First SLO 100 head, i can wait to plug that bad boy in. If the Atomic 16 is anything to go by, i think i may have just found heaven.....
The SLO 100 is by far the greatest hi-gain amp ever made! I have a lot of respect for the way Mike Soldano runs his business. Product quality and craftsmanship are clearly his main goals. He should be proud of himself!
I got a Lucky 13 Head (50W) and a couple of 2x12 cabinets (one open and one closed back) in red. Mike even helped me with some suggested settings. I have had it for nearly a year and it is a great, great amp.
I traded an amp from another boutique builder in order to get a Soldano Astroverb head. I've owned Fender, Rivera, and Mesa Boogie and the Soldano is a killer sounding amp. Is it the end all be all? No. But for what it does it rocks my tiny little world.
pretty sure he used soldano on the recording, "the song that made us what we are today". for sure his most badass tone for his -i'm-kicking-ass-type playing!
I own a custom modded Hot Rod 50 (by Mike)head & matching Soldano 2x12 cab (white snakeskin). My friend got both together for $800 at a local shop, got bored with it, then sold me it. The hi/lo input got changed so you can switch with a pedal to clean/lead, a toggle switch to change from a clean to crunch on the clean channel, and also a toggle switch for Modern/Vintage voicing. Seperate Pre-Gain vol knobs for each channel and master vol. The tones I can get continue to amaze me. Mike rocks!
thats because Van Halen took his SLO to Peavey and practically ripped off the schematics in order to build the 5150. VH used the SLO as a platform to profit which many people seem to be doing these days
Yeah I think ed went to soldano because he was frustrated and out of ideas. Who knows what ed and mike soldano tried to work out but after the soldano use ed has pretty much stuck his name on everything he uses. Everything of his is claimed to be special. I'm sure what he has is, the evh gear at the store is a different story. I would never take an evh amp over soldano. Ed never gave props to soldano that I have ever seen, and it's a nicer amp to me.
I agree. ed used that soldano on his entire record, then he ran off to peavey with that amp like he just found out the secret 11 herbs and spices recipe, If you look at the 5150 it has telltale signs of the SLO, even the look has the same proportions and if you remove the inner panel it has the same grille through treatment that everone is doing now. Ed never said anything about MJS. I too would take any Soldano amp over the 5150 I II or III.
i was looking for the rack mouted version and couldnt find one so i emailed soldano and he said they dont do them anymore! and he would have made one for me but sadly they have to order their metal chassis in batches of 50!
WOW WOW...the Soldano amp has always been kinda enigmatic to me, kewl to see a candid look inside the company. Thanks so much for posting, GREAT job with the production as well. I'm wondering if you have any other footage that gets a bit more into the "techy" aspect of the sound of the amps?
The three channel one, decatone I think, is cheaper, and is essentially an SLO but with independent crunch and clean controls. More for less basically. I think its just the SLO100 name.
Not only that, but Michael is a great guy. He let us use his shop and Amplifiers and Hot Rod for our last music video Monster Monster. He really helps the area music community with sound system donations etc. I wish more successful music types had his kind heart.
He forgot George lynch!!!

eddie didn't use them long, and he's not going to plug a player who has a signature amp(3 actually), when that would compete with his business.
