  • The fossil record captures a bit less than 1% of the animals and plants that ever existed. I always keep this in mind when watching these re-creations. How different the reality must have been! We can't even begin to imagine.

  • Saber-tooth tiger pounced at camel at 2:29

  • from which program is this ?

  • es to es paraasutar

  • damn ice age made there teeth look huge

  • Who were the victims of these deadly blades? Columbian mammoths, probably a bit too good. But the La Brea tar pits show there were plenty more animals for the cats to get their teeth into. Ground sloths were more likely a catch. Although armed with 25 cm claws, there would to be no pushover. And there were other animals that you might not expect to find in Ice Age America. Camels arrived here and would have been an attempting target. But how did saber-tooth cats catch and kill their prey.

  • Based on the La Brea skeletons, it`s scathe they were too heavily built with long physiques. These cats were masters of ambush. They`re to drag down prey with their massive front legs. Only when the victim have been subdued, then the sabers brought to bear. Deep slashing wounds to the arteries of the neck cause massive blood loss and rapid death. These fearsome killers are the most famous victims of the tar traps. But the thousands of other victims also have stories to tell.

  • the narrator sounds so depressed. . .

  • @GuitarGoddess150 try listening to the narrator in the final part of monsters we met. I think it adds up to the emotions involved in the story.

  • 1:42...well, I didn't know the Sabertooth was such an animal crap sniffer....

  • Why do all westerner's like to know how carnivores like for the Lions, Tigers, Cheetahs, Leopards and so many other carnivorous animals catch their prey?

  • you should see Ligers TIGERS MIXED WITH LIONS massive awesome animals

  • @babarislander1 they're huge!

  • Interesting stuff. I remember a similar series made in the early 90's called (I think, I was around 10 at the time) The velvet claw. Anyone know if its around here on youtube or if its had a dvd release?

  • narrator sounds really bored-out.

  • How exactly the animal would use the big teeth? Does it press against the pray's body with its head until it punches through the flesh?

If its tries to open its mouth the big teeth are getting on the way of a proper bite/hold.

My opinion is the big teeth are to hook up the pray and hold on to it during hunting. Biting does not look feasible with such big teeth. Obviously they have proven not to be practical since no other cat in the world now have them. Biting is better apparently.

  • @gespilk A Smilodon (largest of the Sabre tooth cats) could open it's jaws as wide as 120 degrees whereas the lion can only open it as wide as 65 degrees, no Smilodon did not hook onto the prey with it's teeth because the teeth were very fragile and broke easily which explains why some have broken teeth, their bite was weaker than a lion's so Smilodon would wrestle it's prey to the ground before opening it's jaws and biting the throat, they were built more like a bear than a cat, with huge paws.

  • they look like lionesses

  • Looks familiar. The Saber seem to use the same tactics the American government is using along with their Corporate hores sucking the blood out of innocent civilians.

  • @ObeeLektro

You dont like it here? Then get the hell out! Plenty of other countires will take you. I'm frikin tired of people complaining about the USA and our corporate shit. Anyone whos not happy here should leave. Thats my philosophy

  • @ObeeLektro oh go fuck yourself you fucking asshole twat cocksucker

  • @ah93704 Is that all you are capable of? Harsh language, does not reflect kindly on your IQ.

  • @ah93704 I must say your wisdom seems to be revolving around a 5 word vocabulary, that keeps repeating with every message. Well I guess for a person of your stature, that is a complement. I do feel sorry for this cobweb of yours, you have to carry under that hood.

  • @ObeeLektro oh go get food stamps you fucking illegal immigrant

  • @ah93704 Wow I did not know you can form simple sentences! Thou, half way through your brain cells started sweating for a lack of vocabulary and another cuss word came out. And I thought Neanderthal were extinct !!!

  • @ObeeLektro ...seriously? why bother wasting your precious time on the trollz? why?

  • @GuitarGoddess150 You know you are absolutely right. I honestly don't know why I kept responding to this ridiculous remarks. I guess my first response would be my Ego got better side of me, witch poorly reflects on me. I appreciate the wake up call, it just simply means I need more work on self control and honestly its refreshing to come across clear sober intelligent minds. Thank you and Cheers.

  • @ObeeLektro I see a lot of political comments on wildlife videos...

  • the ancient camel was known to have the most beautiful hips of any animal in this era, but nothing compared to todays basic camel, i mean wer talking nice little juicy little beautiful hips on these s.o.b's

  • scientists have found fossils of the sabertooth's kitty which definitely prooves that in fact the sabertooth did indeed posess the biggest kitty in history, but the liger currently posesses the biggest kitty in the world

  • @Charlieb559 the biggest cat in history was actually the american lion

  • @Lenin2304 yea but i was talking about its kitty, u kno like between the legs type of kitty

  • @Charlieb559 that is indeed the most interesting thing to compare between big cats...

  • @Lenin2304 yea and its also the most important thing to compare

  • @Charlieb559 ofcourse it is...

  • @Lenin2304 why is the sabertooths kitty so big

  • @gizmoslice because it touches itself at night

  • Those Saber tooth cats were all over the world, not just america. But you never know someday, just someday someone is going to find them and film them. Just like the people that they saw the lockness Nessie. A thousand people who lived there they saw it but some damn fools never like to believe it. These cats probably live in the deep jungles around the world. Central America, Congo Africa, China Jungle, ect.

  • @MyMusicTwo i don't want to upset you but it's proven that Nessie doesn't exist, i too believed that she did but a good research prooved that it doesn't exist anymore.

  • so let me get this straight the extinction of dinos came before the ice age?

  • @CrissySnow yeah by about 150 million years.

  • @CrissySnow THANX CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!

  • bbc are so cheap with their shows and animation

  • i like it.

  • wtf what the hell is that at 0:43

  • @hrisztoizkool its a polar bear

  • they scavenged more than hunting. this shit is stupid

  • Sad ending.......

  • Do you know if it could be bought on DVD?

  • <.< bbc should know that its called sabre tooth cat not saber

  • american lion is the king it was larger even than saber tooth

  • saver toothed tiger grows bigger than lion or any tigers lived during their era... they should be called the real king of the jungle...

  • no there were north american lions that were bigger.

  • @ArizatoMinato they should but they died soon a lepard will be king of beast since tigers and lions are endangered

  • I love saber tooths!

  • Saber tooth is always the best cat!!!

  • @The2010Predator1 the american lion that lived during this period would have eaten sabers easily...the size of teeth are all that counts

  • @The2010Predator1 if it's so good why is it so dead?

  • Comment removed

  • 2:28-2:49 almost made me cry! poor camels! =(((

  • I believe that this was not real but rather a computer animation. If that makes you feel ANY better.

  • Along with the camels being trained.

  • i feel so sorry for it as it was already extint

  • uhhh lala i remember powerranger mightymorphin!!! saber tooth tiger ...YELLOW RANGER!!

  • it,s nice

  • WRONG it was a hunter

  • same here.

  • Just refresh the page a few seconds into it, and it will go to the video.

  • thankyou great video- very interesting.

  • thats one jacked cat

  • The only animal that wasn't found extensively in tar pits were humans.

  • My real name is Saber hahahaha

  • lucky D:

  • i luv da sabretooth cas ^^

    huntress is near

  • is it me, or does this video look like they stuck fangs on a lion and made it kill a camel?

  • its spelled sabre

  • I think it's ok to call some sabretoothed cats "tigers" just as we call cougars or pumas mountain "lions" even though they are not lions. The cheetah often used to be called the "hunting leopard" (odd, because leopards hunt anyway) and jaguars are known in Latin America as "tigres." It's possible some of the sabretoothed cats were striped though this would have been a convergently evolved pattern to adapt to a particular habitat, as they were not closely related to modern tigers.

  • yh u retard

  • u cant call all sabers "tiger" coz the correct term would be cat and you cant breed sabers or bring back dinos because their DNA is destroyed. ppl think that those things are easy coz they watch films like jurasic park -_- and even if we would bring back those animals the climate is too different and their large prey is long gone so if we bring them back we have to bring back the large plant eaters too ...

  • Actually there is a hypothetical technique being discussed to "reverse engineer" extinct animals by genetically altering their closest living relatives. Mammoths from Asian Elephants, Saber toothed cats from Clouded Leopards, etc.

  • haha they could eat meat like cows dumbass

  • Why don't we just call them Smilodon? That's they're name too!

  • well... they never smile, they do have saber teeth and umm....yeah...

  • LOL Yeah!

  • "ground slothes" lol love the accent.

  • the last saber tooth didn't have a showdown with a lion are you that retarded?

  • Man sabretooth tiger is so cool. What if we could bring it back to life again? Maybe by breeding Liger and Cougar we might get sabretooth tiger.

  • @Oo2k7: Clouded leopards have a longer set of canines than any other existing cat for it's size. While we might be able to breed a Smilodon look-alike, would we really want to? How would people respond to such a critter since it obvioulsy not be allowed loose in anything other than a massive game reserve. Would that be fair to the species? Let's care for what we have now and reintroduce those extant critters to their former ranges.

  • @magick205 we do the same with dogs and cats, cows and chickens, i see no ethical debate in selective breeding bring the saber cat back!

  • @realistromeo I've got to go with magick on this one. Look at the problems we have with maintaining viable wolf populations anywhere outside of refuges like Yellowstone. The fear that still exists in the human mind makes such an endeavour a waste of resources. Due to poor managment and overgrazing we've already lost the Columbia Basin Dwarf Rabbit. Conserve what exists today, control OUR numbers, and then make the big plans.

  • @magick205 I don't think it would cause too much of an upset. I mean we've bred-back to a few extinct wild horse species. We've also bred things like ligers, which obviously aren't allowed outside of zoos (not that matters since they're sterile, but whatevs). I do agree we probably need to just back off of it, though. We've got enough to take care of.

  • @CalicoFeathers BREED and SPECIES are completely different things you idiot, you cannot bring a species back by "breeding"

  • @Lenin2304 Yes I know. We'll never get the exact taxonomic species back, but what we do is get as close as possible. The horse species being my example. They're not the exact taxonomic species, but they're considered to be an extinct species that's been "bred-back."

  • @CalicoFeathers so whats the point of even trying if you can't remake the original? Stupid, if u ask me.

  • @Lenin2304 -shrug- To see their behavior and use it to make assumptions about what behavior could have been like of the actual species?

  • @magick205 guess what? before people came to earth and after the ice age and the dinosaurs there were other animals. some as big as cars. But the main and most feirce prededor was some type of mamal. It is so odd that it isn't closley related to any animal alive right now. It had teeth like a rats. verry close together top and bottom but much bigger. It could out bite a saber tooth tiger. THIS IS TRUE!

  • @magick205

It would certainly be cool to see a Pleistocene Park.

  • I know i watch sometin that a tru story tat he can go back to the past and bring the Dino and he old peacock and the savor thoote

  • If sabre tooth lived when European game 'hunters' came in the late 1800's or early 1900's they would have been extinct in no time. All of the 'manly men' would want a smilodon head on the wall.

  • saber tooths were here today but the the lion fuked the last sabertooth up in a battle to the death now theres no more of this once great animal

  • looooool

  • they are too slow and big to live in todays were world

  • imagine if they were here today, they wud of fuckd up all the other cats

  • Sid is not fat!!1 he is just hairy...

  • haha DIE CAMEL THING xD

  • Hey, its Manny, Diego and Sid!!

  • lol i noticed that too xD

  • No, not really, I mean, that's a Mastodon, and Mandy's a Mammoth.
