  • Kenny Norton used the cross armed defense.

  • Norton was the only fighter ali never beat.

  • first off I'd like to say that anyone who believes Lennox Lewis was great should have his head checked-the only person he beat was a 36&37 year old holyfield who was clearly past his prime and who's skills had started to diminish.

  • I have lived in Louisville, KY since '93 when I was transferred here as a manager for Morrison's Cafeteria. Ali, along with family members, came into our cafeteria a few times while I was there and I had the opportunity to meet and talk with him 2-3 times. While I have great respect for what he was able to do inside the ring, I must say that I took some pleasure in seeing what Ken Norton was able to do to him in this fight.

  • Norton-Ali 1 was the 1st of 3 Super Bouts

  • @FRSFreeStateNow I actually think Norton-Ali was at least as good a rivalry as Ali-Frazier

  • i question lennox lewis's heart. frazier in his prime i believe might take him. even though lewis's tactics are questionable for boxing. lewis had tremendous reach and thats why he took many fights not because of heart, being a powerful puncher, or skilled tactition. his punch and grab tactics are what defeated an aging tyson and represent what is wrong with modern heavyweights. if you believe im wrong watch the fights of any number of middle and lightweight boxers. much more entertaining

  • ali fought this with a broken jaw..the dude fought 5 rounds wuith a broken jaw...di u know that?

  • norton in his prime had a very difficult stlye and thats why he beat ali in this first fight.

  • Norton seemed to be the one guy that had Ali's number.

  • @gangst1978 Totally agree. Frazier is SO overrated in my book. He gave Ali trouble for some reason and thats his legacy. You´re right about Lennox would beat him up soundly. He would never go the distance wit him.

  • Ali broke his jaw in this fight!!!! The down of his career.

  • @sufzyyyy dude this was before Ali recaptured the belt from Foreman in the Rumble Of The Jungle, defended his title against Norton two more times and against Frazier in The Thrilla In Manilla, lost the belt to Leon Spinks only to win the rematch and become the world champion for a THIRD time... And these were just some of the highlights..

So really, his best and toughest fights were yet to come!

  • @FijneWIET Yeh i get u mate...wot i meant was in his career this was a down point.. coz he broke his jaw in a match..coz breakin ur jaw still is a down point..!! I didnt mean his career went down afat this..but i get wer u cumin from the way i wrote my comment..!! Safe

  • Norton (former Marine) is quoted as saying that after all his training for this fight he felt he went into the ring with a "wrench in my back pocket" and proved it!!

  • Norton was awkward as fuck

  • he said afternoon they used to fight in the afternoon?

  • Yep; also it was on free TV (ABC Wide World of Sports).

  • foreman liston patterson frazier norton quarry ? hobos ?

  • Yeah seriously, hobos? Take Foreman, Frazier, or Norton in their prime and put them in the ring with anyone today and not even the Klitschkos could beat them. All of the guy's that Boxinglad123 listed are in the boxing hall of fame. Clearly not hobos.

  • exactly even the lower class boxers ali faced were not " hobos "

  • lmao why even mention the klitchkos Frazier would teach bot up since he worked best against taller fighters. Foreman would knock both of them out. Norton, not so sure he's never been one for big punchers

  • True, Frazier would totally use our heavyweights nowerdays like a dirty rag, that includes lennox lewis and holyfield. Foreman would just brush them aside with ease.

  • I think you are the hobo, and if you come here i'l show you why motherfucker

  • fuck you Ali was the greatest in his time he beat every heavyweight in his era and the were all dangerous wanna get schooled then read this he fought Frazier, whose left hook would tear a normal fighter's head off. Bonavena a rough fight who had never been stopped until by Ali. Norton who was a great fighter just not good against big punchers. Chuvalo the iron chin wonder. George Foreman so hes a hobo huh? Quarry and many other great heavyweights. He avenged his losses even to Kenny right here

  • close rd.1 i think ali was a little more precise towards the end of the rd. ali wins rd1

  • I have this superbout on vhs from the mid-80's. I usually don't like commentator's looking back on fights with the fake crowd noise in the background.you can't hear the punches. they know who the winner is already, so they talk good about them the whole time.they dog out the loser. i guess it's better than nothing if you've never seen the fight. i'm sure Ali would've pulled this one out had it not been for the broken jaw early on. Norton still fought well though.
