Love your videos Scotty! you are an excellent teacher. I have something odd that happened to me on my 98 jeep grand cherokee...its started misfiring on cylinder 5..then eventually cylinder 7..I was beating my head against the wall trying to figure what was causing it...untill I stumbled onto a bulletin for that particular engine, cross firing!! I routed 5 and 7 farther away from each other, and voilà!! no more misfire...something that i have never heard of before. Check your leads people!
Great video, but...I don't understand how a bad battery could trigger multiple misfires - when the engine's running the electrical supply comes from the alternator in all but severe load conditions. I suppose in an extreme case the battery could be shorting out and drawing so much current it drops the system voltage too low but in that case surely that car wouldn't start in the first place? Another reason for this code - a cam belt/chain jumped a few teeth dropping compression on all cylinders.
@dopiaza2006 yes, modern cars depend on a steady voltage supply, and a really bad battery can screw that all up. And it's so easy to test a battery, always do that first.
hey scotty, i have a 2002 cavalier z24 and it has this code. it has a new fuel pump, fuel filter, and fuel regulator. ive had to replace the fuel regulator 3 times in the past year. it is not spitting out any fuel through the vacuum, but could it be this or could it be the battery like you said in the vid? thanks -Alan
Hey thanks Scotty! I took the advice you sent me on email. My fuel injectors were fine, I replaced the fuel filter and it runs like new. The mechanic My Dad used for years charged him for a new filter but never changed it. I know this because it had a label on it marked 1995 Doh!. Tonya
Advice people, if you change it yourself and it has banjo fittings “use good tools” you don’t want to strip those and mine were stuck really good after 17 years. I’m amazed how many problems it caused that you wouldn’t think were related to clogged fuel flow. Thanks again Scotty for helping me fix my Dad’s car:) Tonya
Hi...I just bought a2002 Saturn L200 and I can't get it to accelerate. The code was p0300 and one mechanic said it may be the coil pack...my boyfriend put a gas treatment in it and from then it has been acting like that. Fuel filter maybe?
@veronicastaebo sure, change the filter and put a full tank of gas in it. Realize some cleaners will make things worse if water is in your tank, they suck up the water then it makes the car run poorly until it's gone out of the system.
Scotty, I learned a lot from your videos, thanks. I have a 98 Toyota Land Cruiser. My code is P0301 and P0303. I replaced all 8 spark plugs. Still running rough and hesitating on acceleration. I wanted to test to see if the next thing was the ignition coils, so instead of replacing the ignition coils, I switched them around. Still reading P0301 and P0303. So, not the coils. I was told to replace my fuel injectors next. Or could it be the O2 sensors? What should I do? I'm tight on $ too.
@SuperVDX I'm having the same problem on my 07 camry LE W/ 64500mi on it..replaced plugs,MAF sensor and Coil Packs TWICE been in and out of the shop for the past 5 months...dreading taking it to the dealer
@StabbyFishy check the hoses going to the dpfe valve on the top side of the engine, sometimes they break or clogg. If not, replace the dpfe, places like auto zone sell em and can show you where it is on your car if you drive there.
Hi Scotty, I have a p0300 code and I have had to change my Distributor cap every other month to keep it running. I have all new plugs, new battery, new plug wires and a new fuel filter. What is with the distributor cap?
Hi Scotty, I have a 2000 toyota celica gts I had a p0171 code before I changed my spark plugs I changed them and then I had the p0300 any ideas? When I put 91 octane it idles really low and sometimes turn off until I keep my foot lightly on the gas run it a bit and then its fine.
Hi Scotty, I have a 2000 Honda Civic and recently the check engine pop out, with the scanner I got the code P1456, Small Emission Control System Leak. How can I deal with it??
Wow! A battery? I have just replaced mine with a remanufactured battery for $70. Where can I get the tester or use one? I live in the Denver Metro area. :)
I Scotty, I have a 2001 ford ranger 2wd 3.0 non flex fuel. I have been having problems starting the truck , and only after maybe 20 min or so, the truck will start. 4 weeks ago i got a check engine light and hook up my scanner and got code #P0303 cylinder 3 misfire. I changed the plugs out and erase the code. although the code has not come back, the problems still persist. At times when cranking, the engine will idle very very low, like a pu,pu,pu,pu,pu than die. what do you think. thanks
Hey Scotty, I'm Mike by the way. I owned a 2002 lexus gs300 with a 2jz motor. I been having issues of rough idling, leak headgasket, misfires from all cylinders, and stalling when start the engine like it going to die then when i press on gas acceleration up to 2rpm up it fine but once let go it die on me, also bad coolant sensor. I change spark plugs, spark plug wires, water pump due to over millage, timing belts, crc electric sensors such as MAF, etc. Any advice?
@vangp5 see a mechanic then, it's complex in some cases, requiring a dealer level scan tool to analyze it. The trac light comes on automatically though when the check engine light comes on, that's a toyota software glitch.
hi i have a 2003 galant and my oil light keeps blinking and my car goes slow when i press the gas i put oilo in it already i dont now why it going so slow
Hello i have a 2000 dodge neon and it will shake or jump when i accelerate in first gear only from sitting still.... I replaced both motor mounts and i am wondering if it could be my [ half shaft? ] the arms' are fine, tie rods' good and firmly in place, can you help me ? Before i spend too much... thanx
@WyldeMagiK could be tons of things, check the tranny mounts too, but realize if it only does it in first gear, often a wearing out clutch is a standard, or worn out tranny if an auto
I have a 99 Honda accord that recently has began to give me problems I stall when its on and has trouble taking off the check engine light came on so I took it to autozone to go get the codes scanned it turned out to be random misfire I changed the rotor and disturbiter cap the rotor the wireset and changed the spark plugs six months ago had the battery checked and turned out good I followed all the. Steps you did in your video but it still stalls and triggers codes can you help me out please
Scotty.... thanks for all the great vids... been going through em all and learning a lot. I need your help... I have a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo S (2.2L 4cyl). I bought it from a neighbor - This Isuzu hasn't been maintained at all and i've had gobs of repairs. So far.. ive changed alt, fuel filter, air filter, and battery. Still getting following codes P0301, P0342, P0463, P1627. Do u know if any of these could be related and where to start?
@FestivalJester I'd start by selling it to someone else, they are crap box vehicles, period. All mycustomers who bought em ended hating em and getting rid of em too. But, to fix it and sell it, erase all the codes, then drive. And try to fix the FIRST code that pops back up, it may cause the others. do that first
@scottykilmer Scotty, thanks for the advice but unfortunately im in a spot where I can't sell it. Been broke for a year, finally got a job in Cali. Need to make it from Austin. First code that pops up is the P0301. Curious if the camshaft position sensor (P0342) could be responsible for the misfire? (P0301) thoughts?
Scotty i have a 2010 ford mustang with a 4.0 V-6 and the auto trans with 21000 miles. my question is it will get the p0300 code but if i clear the code with my code reader it wont come back on for 3 months. any advice?
Very informative and great video. I have a question, my 2002 maxima is experiencing random misfire Code PO300. I have changed the spark plugs and coils recently , the misfire persist. What else can I do ? Any help would be great ...
@ANDROID876 realize those coil on plugs were made wrong, and only all coils should be replaced with the new design ones from the dealer, not the original style ones. I would start there.
Thanks for the Video. In my case the PO300 code was due to the fuel pressure regulator mounted on the fuel rail letting the gas thru the vacuum port. Took me a while to find since the fuel pressure was within parameters when checked the intake suction was also within limits. By coinsidence I took off the vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator to check the vacuum a second time, this time thru this port, thats when I saw the fuel leak to the intake. JTYWLTK.
It's too damn cold to start investigating today, but thank you so much for this video. I'll follow your steps and hopefully will have saved a lot of time---with your help.
@luisilloz1 that's a complex code, could be a bad main computer or wiring. but check with ford to see if they have updated the software and have that done if they have first.
Hey Scotty thanks for the info about the radom misfire,But Here is something else to check,I had a 2000 hyundai accent with same problem and I found out that the exhaust manifold had a hair line crack in it and was causeing the misfire and because the cat is welded to the manifold it can be expensive to replace, so I welded the crack and misfire fixed.Just thought you might want to know.
I have trouble starting my car (starts but dies immediately) When I can get it to crank, it will run for about 5, 10, minutes then sputter out. while it's running, it will oscillate between rough and smoother periods of idle. When rough, notice that power stearing unit shakes and rattles. Because it only misfires intermittently, does that mean it is more likely a vacuum leak (or other cause) rather than timing problem? Trying to rule out all possible variables to avoid the expensive car surgeon.
scotty, my 98 saturn pulled a p0300. spark plugs were fouled already i replaced them about 6000 miles ago. i replaced those still misfires, did a fuel pressure test and while running it was normal but degraded quickly after i shut the engine off. i pulled the fuel rail off and pressurized the system to check for an injector leak and none were leaking. im thinking maybe fuel pressure regulator? what are your thoughts? thanks
The check engine light on my 2003 VW Passat 1.8t was on so I took my car to the dealership i bought it from to have it checked out. The faults found were P0300, p301, p302, p303, p304....they recommend that i have 1. vacuum valve check 2. spark plugs 3. fuel filter replaced. And also fuel injection and throttle body cleaning. Costing me over $1030. Am i being ripped off here?
I own a 2000 Honda Prelude and I'm getting the P1399 pd and P0301 I checked the spark plugs, wires, ignition coil, injectors and they are all fine what can I do next?
@localcal82 I have no idea how you checked those parts, as an example, the only way to check the fuel injector would be to move #1 injector to another cylinder and if the misfire P0301 changed to a different cylinder, then it would be that injectors. you need to do some serious tests to check all that stuff, from engine compression tests to vacuum leak tests to discover what's causing those codes. Scotty
Scotty, my 01 Deville has this P0300 code. I have changed the Coil Packs, Plugs, Boots, PCV Valve, Cleaned the throttle body/EGR Valve... Listened to the Fuel Injectors and they all sound fine. My battery is new also. But around 4000RPM the light goes off... any advice is greatly appreciated
@txboifrozt listening means nothing, fuel injectors go bad many ways. But could be tons of other things, as I show in the video, such a s vacuum leaks. since it goess off fast, I would assume vacuum leaks as they do little at high rpms. Scotty
@mikixP then your misfires are not random, but on 1 2 3 and 4 cylinder. so fix what's doing that, often leaking intake manifold gaskets or blown head gaskets, check that first. Scotty
@scotty plugs were not out. is the anyway to test the coil packs before i buy new ones as there is a coil pack for each plug. i drove it about 60 miles with a mild misfire, then next morning the misfire was so bad it would not stay running.
I have a 2002 Mountaineer AWD with 4.6 V8 and about a month ago had a misfire on cyl 8, fixed with a new coil boot. A couple weeks later replace cyly 2 coil pack. About a week age i changed the thermostat and fluid run into cyl 5, 6, 7, and 8. It started running poorley and thought it dry out. Now it will start then die. Changer coil boots on cyl 5, 6, 7, and 8 but still does same thing. Plugs looked good about a month ago. Where do i go fro here?
@pourfella if you ran a lot of coolant into the engine cylinders, it could have ruined those coils, but if the spark plugs were out at the time, that would bent the pistons if water actually got into the cyinders as water does not compress like air and gasoline vapor. Scotty
Hi i have jetta 2005 2.0l bbw 67k miles with mil code p0321 (engine speed sensor).Looks like random misfire I replaced ignition coil pack, engine speed sensor, spark plugs and wires, air filter, new battery. it has good compression(190).vacum 16,cilynder 1 and 3 sparkplugs were oily and sooty. I cleared code few times and it comes back after20 second when on idle. Please anyone for advice Thanks
Hey i have a misfire prob on my 97 lude wat could it be when i shift gears the acceleration drops down low then picks back up slowly and when i park a strong smell of gas or something is really strong comes from it
@hmfuku12 tons of things can do that, but if you smell gas, first check for leaks on the fuel system, any line or leakage by the fuel injectors on top of the engine. Scotty
hello, i'm driven to here from the crazyness of my car!!! its a Chevrolet Lumina with a 3.8L Supercharger engine/tranny from a Grand Prix. i have been preparing the car for the new engine, last sunday i started it and have been running it till today! when changing a lane i noticed that the car was hesitating and the SES light started Blinking! and threw a p0300 code, i have many parts, fixed a vacuum leak and the fuel pump is a walbro, im stuck at the moment!!! any help???
@stonecold0469 Yea, it can be a stinker of a code to fix. Espeically when you put an engine and tranny from a different car with a supercharger on it. good luck with that one, it may never run correctly if you used the computer and wiring harness from the lumina. Scotty
@stonecold0469 check fuel pump as scotty said and air filter I had one that was makeing car hesitate. also I had a crack in the exhaust manifold that was throwing the PO300 code
Scotty, I replaced the plugs, wires, battery, injector o rings, fuel filter, did a intake cleaning, tested for cylinder pressure, tested for vacuum leaks, tested the coils, and tested the fuel pressure. I still get the p0300 code showing up. What else havn't I looked at? Thanks, enjoying the videos.
@woodsonNworthing vacuum leaks are number one to check, also do a ful cylinder leak down test, not just a compression test to find possible internal engine problems, or pay a mechanic to do that. Scotty
Hey scotty, I love your enthusiasm! My car read a P0300 anda P0404. I had the egr valve replaced and engine chcked for vacuum leaks. It runs smooth at an idle and whenver i hit the gas it sounds like it chokes than stalls, almost like its pushing out too much gas. Any thoughts???
@supermissy80 unfortunately, tons of things can do that. start by changing the fuel filter and pressure testing the fuel pump, low pressure can do that. Scotty
hey scotty my toyota celica has its check engine light on the mechanic told me to check p0300, p0301,p0302,p0303,p0304, p0305 ... idk what parts are those or what they are
@pinoyflipside you have misifres on all the cylinders, tons of things can do that. Start with plugs and wires and possibly ignition coils, something is making them all misfire. And check the head gasket for leaks, that can do it too. good luck, Scotty
@Riku42588 You are one strange dude, better seek some help. I'm a mechanic who's been fixing cars for 43 years, not a car salesman. seriously, get some help. scotty
@ces007s That's the code for transmission slipping, showing internal problems in the transmission, it has nothing to do with the work you've done. You need serious internal transmission work. Scotty
Umm...I think my fuel pump is squealing, and my engine die from time to time, and sometimes I have to have the pedal to the floor just to go 60 mph. I checked my fuel pump and it seems to be holding pressure...What do you think is wrong?
This is a simple fix. As i have done many of these cars. THINK SIMPLE PEOPLE. Its a bad connection with the coilpacs. step one remove all 4 coilpacs or 6 if you vave a 6 cyl. inside each coilpac there are 4 connectors. Twist each one slightly and reassemble. you are basically using a differnd part of the electrical connector to make contact. The problem is with crappy vw connectors.
thanks for the video. I've had this code with my Mazdaspeed3 for a while. Mechanics couldn't figure it out. These cars are notorious for fuel pumps failing, Now that I know this can cause it, I probably found my problem.
I have had p0171 and multiple misfire code of a year on my 05 audi a4 1.8t. Took it to audi and many mechanics. No one can seem to locate the problem. First start in the morning it has a rough idle for about 20 seconds and the rpms just drop to around 800rpm. Its very laggy with no bottom power. any suggestions?
@cesar333 I suggest getting rid of that audi, they turn into endless money pits as they get older. You need a special audi dealer level computer to analyze those things, and obviously the dealer doesn't care to spend much time figuring out your problem. They could easily do so with their equipment, but since you have the little cheap audi they probably don't care about your business. From my experience, they are VERY rip off snob places. go ahead and change your fuel filter and put cleaner in.
@scottykilmer YOU ARE ON THE MONEY! I have been dealing with this code for so long. Took it to several mechanics who have given up. I finally took it to audi thinking they would find it. They were so rude and charged me $1000 to replace most of the hoses, clamps, seals and said if the code comes back to bring it back to change out the MAF. Sure enough, 50 miles down the road the light came back. They were going to charge me another $200 for troubleshooting. Audi service is pure BS.
@scottykilmer I couldnt tinker with this too long since it was my daily driver. Now its a spare car. In the process of changing coil pack harness, coil pack, plugs, and fuel filter. but what could cause it to misfire in the early morning for 20seconds and then smooth out. It feels like it hunts for its perfect timing and then drops to 800rpms. Does it go into limp mode?
scotty, i have a 2000 4.3 s10 that idiles rough and has the p0300 code, it dies if i try to bring the rpms up and it will smell like gas n side but ik im not leaking gas ....any ideas?
scotty, i have a 2000 4.3 s10 that idiles rough and has the p0300 code, it dies if i try to bring the rpms up and it will smell like gas n side but ik im not leaking gas ....any ideas?
@ces007s Yea, those crappy vortec fuel injection systems are all plastic, it cracks, leaks, and causes that. A REAL pain, I only change out all the plastic parts when I fix em cause I don't want to do the job twice. Realize that's a LOT of money to do it right. Scotty
You had my trust until you said the battery can be a cause of a misfire. When the engine is running the alternator supplies enough electricity to run almost any electronics.
@mrchoi123 Ah, don't put your foot in your mouth. Yesterday I just fixed a late model ford that misfired until I replaced the battery. Only thing I did, and the misfire went away. Realize a bad shorted out battery can wipe out many modern computer controlled systems by its very instability. The alternator has to be excited by the battery, so a bad battery can make the charging waay too low. Don't be a smart ass unless you know what you're talking about. Scotty
i have a 05 300c v6, i have been getting P0300 code (engine check light) for 4 times in the past 2 weeks after i had it serviced , it happens when the engine hesitated for a second while acceleration and the engine start to shaking . The check engine light went off after i restart the engine . any idea what is causing it ?
I have a 01 eclipse v6 that's has been doing the p0300 code for days. I got the ting belt replaced, tensioner, a new distributor, wires, plus, rotor, dist cap and it still comes up! It has a rough idle but when it's at high Rpms such as above 1000 it runs great please help with some ideas!
@sensesfail360 that's the classic signs of a vacuum leak, so start searching for them on the intake system and any hose running vacuum pressure off the intake. Good luck, Scotty
Scotty, 2003 Altima, idling/running rough, P0300, wouldnt start the other day but would crank and crank, and all the acc. worked...but when we jumped it, started right up....bad battery? or maybe a combination of two or more things?
Hi Scotty, I have a 96 chev Blazer and my Engine codes are P0300, P0101, P0700, and P1100. I happen after someone else drove the vehicle, my wife drives it everyday. The idle on the vehicle is fine, and it doesn't run ruff.
@GMCSUBS Of course, try everything in this video first. Realize the fuel injection systems on those babies crap out all the time due to cheap plastic contruction and age. Scotty
@GMCSUBS yes, it is, that's why mechanics get paid money to fix cars. it's not simple anymore. Bring back the days of carbs and points and condensers if you ask me. Scotty
hey scotty i have a 2005 pontiac pursuit and i pluged a tester in and it said p0300 random misfire!so i changed the sparkplugs and it still does the same thing, the car starts fine but the motor shakes alot and when i press on the gas the the car runs out of power anybody can tell me whats wrong? thank you!
I used some Lucas injector cleaner in my gas tank, filled my gas up and 10 miles later I have a p0300 engine misfire code, been on ever since...what else can cause random misfires? plug wires? coil packs? ICBM? clogged resinator maybe?....anything else?
scotty, i need help, after i replace the intake manifold upper and lower gasket for my ford ranger 1997 3.0 v6, i start to have this P0300 code, could it be i overtighten the rocker arms when i put the pushrods back to its place?
scotty i have a 01 nissan maxi,i have a po300 code when its cold and i start it up the revs up to a 1000 rpm then shuts off, when i start it up back and its warm it stays on,what u think is the problem i change the spark plugs already stil lthe same code
@hp11208 IF you have a distributor, they go bad all the time. If you have coil on plugs, replace them all as they have a design flaw and you must use brand new design coil in plug assemblies for each cylinder. Scotyt
Side note: me and my girlfriend replayed the part at the end where you sneak attacked from the bed of your truck. Laughed for a solid 10 minutes with tears. Gonna replay that part 20 more times then go to bed. This will be my new nightly ritual
What were you doing in the bed of your truck at the end of the video? Trying to sneak attack a trespasser or something? I'm seriously afraid to look in my trunk now. If i see you back there i can't be responsible for what happens
lol otherwise! Great video. You or someone else left a link to this video in a comment on my yahoo answer's question and it helped alot. I got p0300 and i'm thinking spark plugs, so i'll wait until my next tuneup to see if that fixes it
of that. I put some seafoam in the oil crankcase and the other half in the gas task, I then changed the oil after about 80 miles of driving over the course of 3 days. The light has not came back on yet. Any Ideas of what i should do next if the P0301 comes back on again? And changed P0301 be from other cylinders missfire as a ford trained tech told me? thanks I am, sorry for posting in length but I though the info would help to decribe the headaches i've been having with this truck.
@rstaats10 I'll tell you an oddball problem I've seen in those Fords. The valve springs on some cylinders get weak, and at higher rpms, will cause misfires. HAve a good mechanic go and run it hard on the highway while recording the data on his scan tool flight data (yes we use such things.) If the misifre occurs only at high rpms, odds are the valve springs are wearing out. Scotty
Thank you very much. If or more likely when the code comes back, I will take it to a mechanic I trust and have him test it as you mentioned. I appreciate the help. When I find out I will post back to let you know what he finds.
of the boots and tested the resistance to all the coils which tested good. Then i got a p0300 and P0174 code. resest then got p0301. So i replaced fuel injector to cylinder1 and still got p0301. I replaced battery a few months ago and put in new fuel filter a couple weeks ago. I still get the p0301 code. The truck will dome time stagger/vibrate at startup. Thought maybe a leaky fuel injector. Mechanic at the shop said intermittent cylinder 4 and 8 missfires could cause a p0301. Never heard
Hi Scotty, i have a 2000 Ford F-150 5.4 V-8 gas Engine. I have been confused by a p0301 code that I have had off an on for the last 2 years trying to fix. On my latest try I have replaced the coil, boot, and plug to cylinder 1 and still shows a P0301. I took it to a shop and they checked vacuum with smoke and found no leak. Also did engine test and cylinder contribution test and found no missfires at cylinder 1 but found some intermittent missfires at cylinder4 and 8. I replaced all (cont'd)

scotty i have a 2001 lexus is300. codes p0300, p0301, p0302, and p0304. all are for missfires. just did the plugs and wires at 160k. im thinking about changing 1 of the 3 coil packs out. im fed up and dont know what else to do. please help.
ok scotty i have a 2000 crown victoria its a police intercept its have a misfire on cylinder 6 and 7 but there are brand new spark plugs and the thing that goes over it and it still misfire what should i do next
Scotty: I pulled the plugs out of my 4.3 Vortex motor and found they were fouling with gas. I cleaned them , clear the code, ran great for a while and then the po300 code came back . I just put a fuel pump before this all happen . Could it the c.p.i going bad? Fuel pressure readed 58 lb's .
@Sparkydrums those crappy plastic vortec fuel injection systems crack and leak fuel inside the engine. I personally replace aLL the plastic parts when I work on em, otherwise you're just guessing. BIG MONEY repair there in all likelihood. Scotty
@scottykilmer am looking for some help hopefully i can get some....i am having idleing problem i idle in the 1500rpm when i just styart the car and when it get warm it drop to 700 to 650...i have change PCV,and the whole trottlebody wit IAC,and also cleaned MAF...and still having the problem ....hope u can help thanks
@scottykilmer actually the 4.3 and all vortec engine are picky. they only allow for deal item pumps. nearly all the s10 i fixed had the same problem. people buy after mart (usually airtex) fuel pumps and they end up not working or running for a month. i have a gmc sierra with 600k miles and its a 5.3 vortec. original engine. no problems what so ever.
Thanks Scotty! This video is really helpful. I got a check engine light a couple days ago and it says Random Missfire as well. So I plan on checking the spark plugs since I know they haven't been changed in an extremely long time.
Hi Scotty: I replace my fuel pump and also replaced the fuel filter. Soon after i got the po 300 code. It start's up fast but when its warmed up there's a a little misfire or should i say rough idle. Also when warm up it doesnt start quick. Im hoping it;s not the fuel pump. Maybe the filter got clogged . Guess i should follow you steps.

wtf soo if the battery also could be a reason for misfire... that means a bad altenator could also do a misfire?
SuperJosereyna 3 days ago
@SuperJosereyna yes, they can overcharge or undercharge and do that, and much worse
scottykilmer 2 days ago

Advice people, if you change it yourself and it has banjo fittings “use good tools” you don’t want to strip those and mine were stuck really good after 17 years. I’m amazed how many problems it caused that you wouldn’t think were related to clogged fuel flow. Thanks again Scotty for helping me fix my Dad’s car:) Tonya

Hi...I just bought a2002 Saturn L200 and I can't get it to accelerate. The code was p0300 and one mechanic said it may be the coil pack...my boyfriend put a gas treatment in it and from then it has been acting like that. Fuel filter maybe?
veronicastaebo 1 week ago
@veronicastaebo sure, change the filter and put a full tank of gas in it. Realize some cleaners will make things worse if water is in your tank, they suck up the water then it makes the car run poorly until it's gone out of the system.

Hey scotty would an oil leak cause low oil pressure even if the car has oil?
hollywoodboy1994 1 week ago
@hollywoodboy1994 of course it can, leaking lowers the internal pressure.

ANDROID876 1 month ago
@ANDROID876 realize those coil on plugs were made wrong, and only all coils should be replaced with the new design ones from the dealer, not the original style ones. I would start there.
scottykilmer 1 month ago
Thanks for the Video. In my case the PO300 code was due to the fuel pressure regulator mounted on the fuel rail letting the gas thru the vacuum port. Took me a while to find since the fuel pressure was within parameters when checked the intake suction was also within limits. By coinsidence I took off the vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator to check the vacuum a second time, this time thru this port, thats when I saw the fuel leak to the intake. JTYWLTK.

51MontyPython 3 months ago
@51MontyPython yes, I'd have it smoke leak checked for vacuum leaks first, if it's a ford or GM they are notorious for intake vacuum leaks. scotty

localcal82 3 months ago
@localcal82 I have no idea how you checked those parts, as an example, the only way to check the fuel injector would be to move #1 injector to another cylinder and if the misfire P0301 changed to a different cylinder, then it would be that injectors. you need to do some serious tests to check all that stuff, from engine compression tests to vacuum leak tests to discover what's causing those codes. Scotty

txboifrozt 4 months ago

I have a 2002 Mountaineer AWD with 4.6 V8 and about a month ago had a misfire on cyl 8, fixed with a new coil boot. A couple weeks later replace cyly 2 coil pack. Changer coil boots on cyl 5, 6, 7, and 8 but still does same thing. Plugs looked good about a month ago. Where do i go fro here?
pourfella 4 months ago
@pourfella if you ran a lot of coolant into the engine cylinders, it could have ruined those coils, but if the spark plugs were out at the time, that would bent the pistons if water actually got into the cyinders as water does not compress like air and gasoline vapor. Scotty

lolley1100 7 months ago
This is a simple fix. As i have done many of these cars. THINK SIMPLE PEOPLE. Its a bad connection with the coilpacs. step one remove all 4 coilpacs or 6 if you vave a 6 cyl. inside each coilpac there are 4 connectors. Twist each one slightly and reassemble. you are basically using a differnd part of the electrical connector to make contact. The problem is with crappy vw connectors.

First start in the morning it has a rough idle for about 20 seconds and the rpms just drop to around 800rpm. Its very laggy with no bottom power. any suggestions?
cesar333 8 months ago
@cesar333 I suggest getting rid of that audi, they turn into endless money pits as they get older. You need a special audi dealer level computer to analyze those things, and obviously the dealer doesn't care to spend much time figuring out your problem. They could easily do so with their equipment, but since you have the little cheap audi they probably don't care about your business. From my experience, they are VERY rip off snob places. go ahead and change your fuel filter and put cleaner in.
scottykilmer 8 months ago
@scottykilmer YOU ARE ON THE MONEY! I have been dealing with this code for so long. Took it to several mechanics who have given up. I finally took it to audi thinking they would find it. They were so rude and charged me $1000 to replace most of the hoses, clamps, seals and said if the code comes back to bring it back to change out the MAF. Sure enough, 50 miles down the road the light came back. They were going to charge me another $200 for troubleshooting. Audi service is pure BS.

You had my trust until you said the battery can be a cause of a misfire. When the engine is running the alternator supplies enough electricity to run almost any electronics.
mrchoi123 8 months ago
@mrchoi123 Ah, don't put your foot in your mouth. Yesterday I just fixed a late model ford that misfired until I replaced the battery. Only thing I did, and the misfire went away. Realize a bad shorted out battery can wipe out many modern computer controlled systems by its very instability. The alternator has to be excited by the battery, so a bad battery can make the charging waay too low. Don't be a smart ass unless you know what you're talking about. Scotty

@venxxxxx You have no sense of humour. I'm not worried about being gay, believe me. Scotty

Scotty
scottykilmer 9 months ago
@scottykilmer, Is it possible that one code caused all of these codes?
GMCSUBS 9 months ago
@GMCSUBS yes, it is, that's why mechanics get paid money to fix cars. it's not simple anymore. Bring back the days of carbs and points and condensers if you ask me. Scotty

I used some Lucas injector cleaner in my gas tank, filled my gas up and 10 miles later I have a p0300 engine misfire code, been on ever since...what else can cause random misfires? plug wires? coil packs? ICBM? clogged resinator maybe?....anything else?

scotty, i need help, after i replace the intake manifold upper and lower gasket for my ford ranger 1997 3.0 v6, i start to have this P0300 code, could it be i overtighten the rocker arms when i put the pushrods back to its place?

scotty i have a 01 nissan maxi,i have a po300 code when its cold and i start it up the revs up to a 1000 rpm then shuts off, when i start it up back and its warm it stays on,what u think is the problem i change the spark plugs already stil lthe same code
hp11208 1 year ago
@hp11208 IF you have a distributor, they go bad all the time. If you have coil on plugs, replace them all as they have a design flaw and you must use brand new design coil in plug assemblies for each cylinder. Scotyt

Side note: me and my girlfriend replayed the part at the end where you sneak attacked from the bed of your truck. Laughed for a solid 10 minutes with tears. Gonna replay that part 20 more times then go to bed. This will be my new nightly ritual
soulweaponry 1 year ago

And changed P0301 be from other cylinders missfire as a ford trained tech told me? thanks I am, sorry for posting in length but I though the info would help to decribe the headaches i've been having with this truck.
rstaats10 1 year ago
@rstaats10 I'll tell you an oddball problem I've seen in those Fords. The valve springs on some cylinders get weak, and at higher rpms, will cause misfires. HAve a good mechanic go and run it hard on the highway while recording the data on his scan tool flight data (yes we use such things.) If the misifre occurs only at high rpms, odds are the valve springs are wearing out. Scotty

@scottykilmer

Sparkydrums 1 year ago

1989rrichard 11 months ago
@scottykilmer actually the 4.3 and all vortec engine are picky. they only allow for deal item pumps. nearly all the s10 i fixed had the same problem. people buy after mart (usually airtex) fuel pumps and they end up not working or running for a month. i have a gmc sierra with 600k miles and its a 5.3 vortec. original engine. no problems what so ever.

@Sparkydrums Thank's Scotty : Yeah Vortec is crap!
