Just off the top of my head; Steve Jobs, Adolf Hitler, Albert Einstein, Lance Armstrong... are all just a FEW more additional highly inspirational people who faced great struggles in their lives that I can think of at the moment.
Thomas Edison actually stole a lot of ideas from Nikola Tesla and got rich off of them. Tesla wanted power to be free and usable by anyone, but Edison turned it into a pay-to-use concept. Think about it... free energy for the entire world.
@pratikh was just about to disagree with the thomas edison being a great example. Tesla also made many inventions for Edison when Edison told him he would recieve $50,000, when asking about the money, Edison said, "You don't understand our american humor." then Edison the douche offered him a raise to $10 a week. Tesla died penniless in a hotel.
@pratikh While that concept is pleasant to think about from an ideological standpoint, on a practical level it's impossible to provide free power to the entire world. Just think about your average coal-burning power plant. It requires the daily attention of perhaps 100 employees just to stay in operation. Same goes for atomic energy. Are they expected to work for free? Or Maybe the equipment should just fix itself? No. We are a long way from being able to provide power to entire world for free.
@pratikh It's sad... If you mention Tesla to *almost* anyone, they won't even recognize the name, let alone what his ambitions were, and what he's done / what could have been for our world.
@DeepSpaceVoid yet even if he is not mentioned there is always people piping up about how we could all be getting free energy. Even during his time, people knew he was cooky. His designs did not work - most of the stuff he proposed can not be done.
Look - "free money for everyone, just print more!" - R. Below Now you can also mention me as a genius who was going to end all the world's problems..

@pratikh I'm a Tesla fan but his free energy ideas would not make nearly enough power to run a modern economy. His wireless power DISTRIBUTION would probably have been an ecological disaster and wouldn't work from a business aspect.
Tesla DID give us AC power. Edison wanted DC because DC can't go very far and he would have built thousands of nice expensive power plants in the US. AC allowed long distance transfer of electricity and therefore far fewer, larger power plants and cheaper power.
@emiliame many Disney movies were based on work that was already in public domain. Not so coincidentally, they're also responsible for the continuous extension of copyright law in an attempt to keep Mickey and other characters out of public domain.
If you haven't failed, you haven't lived.

@pratikh but if it was free the usage of the power would be mass and the planet couldn't take it... think about it.
