  • Nice song, nice instrument. But who's that girl ? She doesn't seem to be a maiko or geiko because of her hair..

  • @Tanii It is because she is a Tayuu or Oiran

  • Thank you! I wanted to know how you played a kokyu, but there were no videos up of it. I see how to play it now.

  • lol

  • @ogarga it is a shamisen (not that my ears are that sensitive, but when the camera moves you can see the player in the background :)

  • @akinderreality it's not a Shamisen, Shamisen is a Plucked instrument Like a guitar or a Sitar..

it is a Kokyu, a Japanese Version of Erhu

  • @mikage06 Yes, the bowed instrument is a Kokyu, but the question to which I was responding was "what is the plucked instrument playing in the background?" which is a Shamisen. Best!

  • @mikage06 you can see the Shamisen player at 1:50 in the left-hand side of the screen

  • i wish there was more known about them, i only know bits and pieces from what I've read in books. i wounder if they still operate the same way they did in the old days

  • is that a tayu

  • Yeah not my favorite instrument on earth

  • I hate to say it, but that was a little painful to listen to. Would have preferred a shamisen!

  • Fantastic!

    What a beauty and harmony...

  • sounds a lot like the violin

soo unique the way she plays it

  • Oh thank you, Liza! I've always wanted to hear a Tayu play the Kokyu.

  • Amazing and Beautiful!
