  • thank you for the share; and quite sorry i'm just seeing your video now. i had mixed feelings about not being able to hear the final recording. it's probably for the best for most due to its reality. my level of fascination with the gent' would have placed it a bit challenging, yet i would personally prefer to hear at least a snippet (maybe 2 versions of the film). for some it could bring a degree of closure for questioning minds. then again, others would use it for ridicule. he chose correctly.

  • Timothy Treadwell's death tape would probably be too graphic for many to stomach. Aside from blood-curdling screams and groans, you might also hear the sound of flesh being ripped like paper, the bear's slurps and snorts, the sound of bones being broken like twigs. I learned that when a lion or a bear tear into a human being, they go for the gut as it happened to a man who got too close to wild lions on a safari in Africa in 1975. A lion knocks him down and then they begin to eat his stomach.

  • How do you video bump?

  • nerds commenting movies, hmm, unusual

  • Brilliant!

  • i think it was a good decision not to let the audience hear the audio - timothy and his girlfriend were human beings - even though I think he was wrong to go up there and mess with the bears without any formal training - nobody deserves to die like he and his girlfriend did. I do think his heart was in the right place - but he should have been stopped from going up there year after year. He was playing russian roulette with his life and he lost.

  • It's been years since I saw it, but think it was handled well enough. I decided not to show it to my students though (the topic which some parents might not appreciate, the length, & the likelihood of the students losing interest half way through). We did discuss it though, with me just summarizing the film for them.

  • i think it was a very honorable decision on Herzog's part to not allow the audio to be played.

i dont think people would have wanted to hear it, and yeah i think that it would have been disresepctful.

  • it's funny yet sad because wasn't the bear that killed him the one he thought was the nice one?

  • @milanmaestro63 sounds like you mean its ironic...

  • @cagedrobin trying to use more words in my comment...

  • He shouldve played the audio so people would realize the raw power they possess, then maybe people would respect bears more and not see them as pets or invade their territory like Treadwell did.

  • I spent two Summers in Alaska as my cousin lives up there. And whenever we went fishing/hiking/camping we encountered bears. They are slow and clumsy when walking but when they run they are extremely intimidating. I had a .308 rifle and a .454 Ruger Casull revolver at all times. Never had to use them though, just for protection. We were at the Russian River campground and brown bear dragged one of the campers out of his tent because the fool left Salmon guts and head on the ground at his site

  • I think it was a brilliant move on Herzog's part to not let the audience hear the audio. It's horrific enough using your imagination along with the Coroner's description. It would have been disrespectful....it would've been more of a Michael Moore move than anything!

Great review. Have you seen 'Encounters At The End Of The World'? That might be my favorite Herzog doc.

  • It drags a bit at times but overall it's definitely a good film and well worth watching.

  • I have to agree. Grizzly Man is a remarkable film. Beautiful and tragic. Treadwell was definitely not 'all-there" and his final day in Alaska was truly terrible.

  • Search "Kyle Kinane on Grizzly Man." He's a comedian; it's his take on the film.
