What's the diploma on the floor? (Start of video.) If you're getting rid of the HD, the easiest way to protect yourself is to take a hammer to it (closed). If they sound like baby rattels when you shake them, you did the job. If the platters are shattered, there's no way anyone can recover anything from them. Of course, if you are able to "F-Disk", that's a lot easier. I had to hammer an HD when my 1'st laptop quit, my parents on a dead desktop. I F-disked my last desktop.
