Is this a new breed? I was in 4H with my guinea pigs about 15 years ago and had many books about the different breeds but I've never seen one like this before. It's really cute!

@Amooliakin Google for the answer. :) I was told my guinea pig is a Merino because of the way the fur curls. It is slightly different from Texel guinea pigs.

this vidio is an Alpaca (peruvian with curly hair) the texel is a silkie with curly hair and the Mereno is a Coronet with curly hair

This is a pretty cool guinea pig but grooming it is very difficult. The Texel guinea pig has long very curly and soft hair. This particular pig's fur gets tangled very easily.

Merino: This is virtually the same as a Texel, but with a crest on its head.

Well, Vivi does have a little crest on her head. :)

@Obelieber4evaO Hello! :) It is best to keep the piggies inside a big cage or a fenced-up playpen. Occasionally, you may allow them to roam around the garden or inside a room for exercises. I've 3 cats myself and they never bothered my guinea pig and rabbits. So it is alright to keep cats provided they are friendly and does not attack or disturb your piggies.

@dashingblue Thankyou :) ! If i get my piggies i'll start off by supervising my cat when he gets near the cage, i used to have mice and our cat always had his eye on them ( in a non-friendly way..) D: so i shut the room door everytime i walked out. A couple of times he actually got to the mice :( But the mice were unharmed - Phew! But that is why im wondering whether it is safe? I wonder if there is any possible way for him to befriend the piggies... I hope so <3 Thanks again. :)

@dashingblue It really depends on the cat and it's temperment. I had 3 cats and guinea pigs growing up and they never bothered them, most likely because the piggys are big compared to mice and hamsters, so they trigger less of a prey drive in the cats. It is possible for him to be friends, two of my cats would sometimes hang out in the pen and even sleep with them. Best of luck.

@dashingblue I have two guineas and they have lived outside since i got them :) they are healthy and cope with the cold weather. you just need to make sure they have a good quality hutch and alot of hay in their hidey homes/bedroom area. :D

@Obelieber4evaO hi, i'm going to pet at home and looking to see if i can hold a guinea pig coz i'm getting two, and i'm going to name it binky, too! keeping them inside is the safest place, read up on them and you'll see, but keeping outside will be better, so there is no smell in the house and you must be aware of preditors such as foxes or cats or dogs, thats if you have them. ask me any question, iv'e read up on them and know everything thats needed to be known. happy to help, mrrandoms125
