Mobile me sounds great , but is not when you loose you phone. I had my mobile phone stolen yesterday . Neither the Police not Mobile me could really help. The Police told me that they cannot truck every single moblile stolen in London and Mobile me doesn't give you the address where the phone is, it tells you the area where it is,. can I actually knock the door of 100 people in a block of flat??? no. at the end of the story I had to buy a new phone so my dearest friends ,that's all bullshit !!!
is been 2mths and it wont localise it. i locked it and wiped it and i still dont get a confirm that is been done . is worthless cus i found one , i restored it and is like a new phone now. it only works if its lost at home and its charched and conected to the internet
Mobile Me - for finding stolen iphones - SUCKS. I signed up, tested it 3 times to make sure it works. Once my phone was stolen (6am Sunday) it was USELESS! It took me 40 mins to get to an internet by then (1) there was a bug in the system where it asks you to verify your correct passwoerd over and over. By the time 3 hours later I got logged on and it was too late. The thief reset the phone to factory settings and turend of mobile me so was completely uselESSS. jAILBREAK & USE ilocalis
I use mostly Apple products although I do have an HTC Windows Phone 7. However, I wouldn't pay for it. Almost everything it offers is free elsewhere. The Windows Live suite has a lot of it and what it doesn't have I'm sure it soon will have. That isn't to say that it's not a nice service. If I were wealthy and had tons to piss away I would probably get it.
Now that the Find My iPhone is free do you think that it is more likely that Apple will make MobileMe free? I am really interested in how MobileMe works because I don't really like that my iPod Touch doesn't sync at all like my Nexus S, there is almost no comparison. Android syncs my Contacts, Calender, Gmail (others also), my paid apps, even my settings like brightness or volume (just in case I had to get another phone).
i've tried the MobileMe 60 day trial. I don't own an iPhone or iPad etc, the only feature i've really been enjoying is the webspace. able to create and customize my own personal website using iWeb. I have 2 questions for anyone willing to answer:
1) Is there any FREE FTP service/webhosting that I can use iWeb with?
2) does anyone know if i can disable email notifications in MSN Messenger for Mac (somewhat related, long story)
sooo you mean people actually pay for this when you can do everything for free with an android. lol good ol' apple charging it users for everything, have fun with that
@torbmaximus mobile me is shit! and actually android is better than ios. there operating system is faster when compared on phones with the same hardware specs. it also offers the user so many more options that are only available to iPhone users through jail breaking (which can screw your phone up) mobile me doesnt do anything at i cant do on my android (for free)
I just bought MobileMe, mainly because of the Find My iPhone feature. Then I found out that a thief can easily turn off this feature by going into settings. If you iPhone has a passlock, then all they have to do is pull the sim card.
So the only real use this feature provides is if you lost your iPhone inside your house and it wasn't stolen. Because it's to easy to be turned off by a criminal.
@MikeBusinessManDavis most likely not as well as they have no inbuilt GPS and only run on wifi. so unless you lost it in a wifi network you have already joined. it isn't going to work
If you use your iPhone for anything more than phone calls (which anyone paying for one would be stupid not to), and ESPECIALLY if you use it for business matters, you can't afford NOT to have MobileMe
@iPatrickTouch Not worth $99 a year for that service (or $198 as chris said he would pay). Just get an insurance policy out on your phone. Cheaper and more cost effective.
I find it remarkable (hence my remark) that people can lose or misplace these machines. For a hand held computer that costs a chunk-a-change I expected folks to be careful with their device(s).
i love it cuz i lose my iphone all the time and i find it in places i would never go to but its useful even when it get stolen just cuz its an apple product dam u windows lover stop stealing my iphone (btw i am a windows and a mac user dam fanboys)
I got MobleMe, only because I got a deal when I bought it because it came in a package with iWorks. I think it's really great. It's just a thing to have for me. haha.
Wow, thanks Chris for making the video, did not really expect you to do that. I am strongly wagering on buying MobileMe now, because of this video, and the find my iPhone feature that you were talking about.
The Find My iPhone feature is really nice. And, I love having a .mac e-mail address. Also, too many people already send mail to my .mac e-mail address. If I got rid of it, I don't know what I would do.
Here's a feature I'd like to see in the MobileMe service if Apple add wireless sync to iOS: Sync anywhere through the Back to My Mac technology. Just think about it! Imagine having your iDevices always connected to your computer ready to sync. Transfer photos, videos, new songs back and forth your mac and your iPhone while on the go. That would be a wonderful experience.
I use it for three and a half years now and can't live without it.
keeps my apple products synced together which is important to me, but also I finally have just one email account that I don't have to change every time i switch internet providers for a better internet price.
love it.
thanks for keeping me up to date with technology all these years that i am watching your videos.
I dont use MobileMe as all i am interested in is the Calendar, Contacts and mail and i just dont think its worth the money. Google has an exchange service that delivers the EXACT same experiance as MobileMe on those three areas. And i love it. :P google.com/mobile/sync/
I have it just to try it out. I use the free sixty-day trial. It has helped me to find my iPod Touch. That will be the only reason to have it, though.
Well i'm one of those Windows only losers, and I use MobileMe as it's worth it. I've lost my iPhone like a dozen times now, left it everywhere, even on vacation and I was able to find it thank god. Well worth the $129 just for that feature alone.
Chris, Mobile Me could be useful for Windows users as well. Because Windows users own iPhones and iPad's too. So they use the features as well. Thoughts?
i have it because i need somewear to put websites although rapidweaver isnt uploading them it tells me they are there but i cant view the sites :( if anyone can help tnx but i love the bonus features
I bought Applecare for $70 when I bought my iPhone, the track my iPhone feature should come with Applecare. If I bought both, thats $170 in warranty......
i love the find my iPhone feature can't live without it
you know i have my iphone stolen 2 times and allways found it back with the find my iPhone feature, i just gave the adress to the police and they brought it back to me.
wow christ kinda left out all windows users with this video...perhaps you should make a video on an alternative for mobile me for windows users. or even better a universal service for osx, android, and windows.
Aside form the Back to my Mac, and find my device features, you can get all the features of Mobile Me for free through Google (Gamil, Calendar, ect...), and a free DropBox account. I use all of this on my iPhone, and it works great.
Apple already gave you something for free. A wonderful web browser based on the best web engine out their, WebKit an open source project apple to under their wings and completed. A wonderful music management app and a wonderful media player.
My recommendations, get mobile me when you buy the iPhone for $30 less, or find MobileMe on eBay from a well rated eBay seller like I did for $42. I use gmail sync (exchange) & I have all my mail from other accounts forwarded to my
Gmail, and sorted with gmail filters into correct tags/email folders. Google sync also syncs my contacts, calendars for free!
I use google imap for notes syncing.
I only use mobile me for bookmarks syncing & find my iPhone. I hardly use any other features. I ha
3:43 - "It can also erase all data on the iPhone." Happened to me in my Web Design class last year and while putting my contacts back in, my normally cool teacher threatened to kick me out of class because my friend was the one that erased it.
I got .Mac just before they rebranded it to MobileMe because I wanted a @mac.com mail. I hope not they are going to make MobileMe free and definitely not the Find my iPhone service. Because then everyone would have it and whoever stole the phone would just restore the phone to as it was when it was new. Now that most people don't have it the badguy won´t even think about it.
i thought you could actually lock your iphone if you suspect it has been stolen, so the theif cant use the sim card OR the phone. But then when you recover it, you have to take it to your phone shop (at+t in the us or o2, vodafone, orange etc. in UK) for them to unlock it
MobileMe is only worth the money if you like the services as they are. I subscribed to the service because I love the e-mail app and I couldn't live without the syncing of contacts, mail, and calendar with my iPhone. This is coming from a Windows 7 user that can't take full advantage of some of the other features. This services fills my needs with web apps that I enjoy using. It's worth the price to myself and feels more like a luxury. Choose this service if it's right for you & your needs.
I bought it originally for the web hosting back when it was .Mac, now I use MobileMe for Online Storage, the Find My iPhone/iPod touch/iPad feature, and most importantly, the @me.com email address
mobile me is great for me cause everyone in my family has an iDevice, (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad etc) and it gives you that feeling of knowing that if you ever lose it, you can locate it, send a message to the finder, play sound, etc....
PLUS
mobile me can host your website for the $99 a year which is fair since most hosting companies charge $10 or more per month.
@R1CKY995 I have a MobileMe subscription (2+ years now), and ALSO pay for a hosting service for my site. How do you get MobileMe to host my website? Is it an EXTRA $99/year, or just the basic $99 you already pay for MobileMe?
That is not true, hosting comapny costs 25 euro (about 30 dollar) per year. And that includes a domain name, 2.5gb of storage, 30gb of traffic a month.
Mobile me shoud just be free for everyone that uses an iPhone.
It's worth it if you have apps that let you use its capabilities. There's many Mac apps that let you take advantage with Mobile Me and have seamless integration. Anything from web designing, to synching information can be easily done with some of these apps, which can be very convenient for many users.
One can also use it to create their own site free of MySpace, Facebook and other blogs.... all easy and seamless.
I would not pay for mobile me because 90+% of the things I would use it for is free mostly in gmail , second of all I would rather pay something like $5 to fine my phone if in deed it is lost not $99 a year.
worth it to me. my entire family uses the iphone, so we have the family plan for mobileme. i decided it was worth it when i lost my iphone at a movie theater, located it, set a message giving my info and name, then set a passcode and locked it remotely. i was able to show up, find out it was in the lost and found, prove i was who i was, and prove i know the passcode that i set on it, and now i still have my phone. i also like my @me.com email address
i dont use mobile me mainly because i dont really need it. i have one box for every Major operationg system (linux distro, windows, osx) so i dont really need it.
That is the ABSOLUTE best app that I wish the App store had (for free), android has had a find my droid app for a while and it gives you the ability to do what the mobileme subscription does, and that is be able to Geolocate your device, make a sound, pop up message, and even lock your device under a new password. I wish apple would realize that there devices are like the jackpot for robbers, my Iphone was stolen recently and this would of helped, but it is a paid service, hope that changes.
@bobfreeman814 I guess an app [Droid] it's not the same of a built in feature [Iphone]...
I have a question, the service is associated to the device itself? If someone steals your iPhone, format and reinstall the iOS, you can still locate it?
hello HEllo hey Chris your a geek...so you should be able to answer this question-I am sure you probably already answered it-but which is better macs or pcs and why?
@Mensahwatts If you don't mind me answering. I asked my uncle the same question and he said that a vast majority of the world uses PCs so that would be more convenient and 90% of the world already knows how to use PCs and to me, Macs are quite gimmicky.
@AZSecondCity I see...hummm I have been told they have less problems than PCs many times. I have noticed that PCs do seem to always have problems of some kind-but yeah I do believe that Macs are alittle Gimmicky. But anyhey I may get one to try out soon. Thanks for the comment y0

Aside form the Back to my Mac, and find my device features, you can get all the features of Mobile Me for free through Google (Gamil, Calendar, ect...), and a free DropBox account. I use all of this on my iPhone, and it works great.

Is MobileMe Worth It?
I say "YES"
Is mobile me only for the Apple Devices?
i have my iphone allmost 2 years now and
I've never lost it and i hope i'll never will!!!!

If you want to keep everything organized and synced up to all your computers or iOS devices then yes, MobileMe is worth it.
ReneAlanisJr 1 year ago
i thought you could actually lock your iphone if you suspect it has been stolen, so the theif cant use the sim card OR the phone.

Choose this service if it's right for you & your needs.

mobile me is great for me cause everyone in my family has an iDevice, (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad etc) and it gives you that feeling of knowing that if you ever lose it, you can locate it, send a message to the finder, play sound, etc....
PLUS
mobile me can host your website for the $99 a year which is fair since most hosting companies charge $10 or more per month.
R1CKY995 1 year ago 24
@R1CKY995 I have a MobileMe subscription (2+ years now), and ALSO pay for a hosting service for my site. How do you get MobileMe to host my website? Is it an EXTRA $99/year, or just the basic $99 you already pay for MobileMe?
whtboyco06 1 year ago
@R1CKY995
That is not true, hosting comapny costs 25 euro (about 30 dollar) per year. And that includes a domain name, 2.5gb of storage, 30gb of traffic a month.
Mobile me shoud just be free for everyone that uses an iPhone.
jorn89 1 year ago
@R1CKY995 You can have your own website with MobileMe? I never knew that...looks like my Subscription can be more worth it (Y)

That is the ABSOLUTE best app that I wish the App store had (for free), android has had a find my droid app for a while and it gives you the ability to do what the mobileme subscription does, and that is be able to Geolocate your device, make a sound, pop up message, and even lock your device under a new password. I wish apple would realize that there devices are like the jackpot for robbers, my Iphone was stolen recently and this would of helped, but it is a paid service, hope that changes.
bobfreeman814 1 year ago 14
@bobfreeman814 I guess an app [Droid] it's not the same of a built in feature [Iphone]...
I have a question, the service is associated to the device itself? If someone steals your iPhone, format and reinstall the iOS, you can still locate it?
dbalieiro 1 year ago
@dbalieiro yeah but it still works, and it helps

@bobfreeman814 As long as Apple are money-grabbing con-artists.

hello HEllo hey Chris your a geek...so you should be able to answer this question-I am sure you probably already answered it-but which is better macs or pcs and why?
Mensahwatts 1 year ago
@Mensahwatts If you don't mind me answering. I asked my uncle the same question and he said that a vast majority of the world uses PCs so that would be more convenient and 90% of the world already knows how to use PCs and to me, Macs are quite gimmicky.
AZSecondCity 1 year ago
@AZSecondCity I see...hummm I have been told they have less problems than PCs many times. I have noticed that PCs do seem to always have problems of some kind-but yeah I do believe that Macs are alittle Gimmicky. But anyhey I may get one to try out soon. Thanks for the comment y0
