@wickedjuggaloful the guy who made the video says right in the description it was a gm 4.3L did you even bother to look at the description, and before you start goin that they used the 3.8L in the typhoon just stop and look it up, the 3.8L is a blow-thru TBI fuel injection system used in the grand national, Regal T-type, and GNX and the 4.3L Turbo used exclusively in the syclone and typhoon uses the CPI fuel injection system shown in the video
@BlitzHKS Let me correct you on one thing, the GNs and GNX did not use a blow thru TBI FI system by a longshot. They ran an SFI fuel system and MAF sensor setup. That is what helped them get 25-26 mpg. I built a GN from end to end in my garage so I know that car better than most. There is a picture of me sitting it on my channel. You might be able to see the hood and it clearly says 3.8 SFI Turbo

started life as a gm bowtie block with standard 4.000 bore.. Was bored out to 4.155 with stock stroke crankshaft (steel oddfire replacement).. The shortblock was relatively basic.

because the stock v6 with the single turbo the typhoons had from gm took up most of the engine bay. putting a v8 in an s15 and getting it to fit well requires a lot of pounding on the firewall and a few other modifications. Putting twin turbos in there with a v6 would be equally as tough, and a v8 with twins next to impossible of not impossible

If you want a vortec motor then go buy one, otherwise you are going to be replacing everything but the engine block.... which the newer vortec have aluminum blocks, which is the better choice: less weight. The only down fall is in a case that your engine severly overheats, then you are more acceptable to block damage.

actually chevy is GM, but none the less it makes no difference...i agree with you rbw19812, but also at the same time, it could still be AWD the powere ratio is 65% rear and 35% front, so with that said it can still lift the front and be AWD, or they could've pulled the front shaft and its still AWD
I understand the performance reasons behind making it rwd but it still seems like a shame to do that to a typhoon. Why not just get a 2wd blazer/jimmy and put all that money into giving it this drivetrain? You end up with basically the same thing but you leave one more awd Ty for the rest of us to enjoy. Simple really. You lose much more power to the wheels through an all wheel drive setup. By making it rear wheel drive only you get more of the power to the ground. And by tubbing it and running sliccks or wrinkles you can easily make up for the difference in traction. Not to mention the substantial decrease in weight from making it 2 wheel drive. This is a race truck not a grocery go getter. You even see this with AEWD cars too. Many racers converting there AWD cars to RWD for drag racing
RPM converted it to rear wheel drive only. big power all wheel drive break a lot of driveline parts. Plus if it were all wheel drive, it couldn't do cool wheelies.
I have a 92 S-10 blazer 4 door that i want to make into a typhoon clone. It has 3.42 gears. 36mm swaybar. I am about to add 98 S-10 blazer brakes to it. I can use the front spindles from the 98 so i can retro fit the calipers from a 98. Plus the 98 blazers use larger front rotors. Then all i need is a rear axle from a 98 also for the rear disc brakes. But what I dont know is whats different about the internals of the 4.3L engine between the N/A version compared to the turbo version.

True. If you are talking big trucks GM has nothing on Cummins and Ford. However I would put my GMC 2500HD Duramax W/6 speed Allison tranny against any powerstroke or cummins in a comparison. At the local truck pulls my truck took 1st and second place in its class (me driving took 2nd my nephew took 1st) and there were entries from both ford and dodge in the same class that had some mods while mine was stock on stock tiores and they had better tires. They all make good trucks though IMO.
Well I just know we stayed clear of the 6.6L so no personal experience but I know a few people who got them when they first came out and they failed at 75k-100k miles maybe the late ones were really good but GM didn't exactly have a good track record with diesels

because the stock v6 with the single turbo the typhoons had from gm took up most of the engine bay. putting a v8 in an s15 and getting it to fit well requires a lot of pounding on the firewall and a few other modifications. Putting twin turbos in there with a v6 would be equally as tough, and a v8 with twins next to impossible of not impossible

newpage123, that would be a complete waste of money, not to mention completely pointless. If you want a vortec motor then go buy one, otherwise you are going to be replacing everything but the engine block.... which the newer vortec have aluminum blocks, which is the better choice: less weight. The only down fall is in a case that your engine severly overheats, then you are more acceptable to block damage.

actually chevy is GM, but none the less it makes no difference...i agree with you rbw19812, but also at the same time, it could still be AWD the powere ratio is 65% rear and 35% front, so with that said it can still lift the front and be AWD, or they could've pulled the front shaft and its still AWD

I understand the performance reasons behind making it rwd but it still seems like a shame to do that to a typhoon. Why not just get a 2wd blazer/jimmy and put all that money into giving it this drivetrain? You end up with basically the same thing but you leave one more awd Ty for the rest of us to enjoy. Its like those guys who put n/a big blocks into grand nationals. WHY??? Still pretty cool though.

A big block regal would be just as fast and look the same as a big block gn, and it wouldn't have ruined a cool unique car. I'm not trying to tell people what to do with their own cars, and I suppose they might be able to change them back, but it just don't seem right.

Simple really. You lose much more power to the wheels through an all wheel drive setup. By making it rear wheel drive only you get more of the power to the ground. And by tubbing it and running sliccks or wrinkles you can easily make up for the difference in traction. Not to mention the substantial decrease in weight from making it 2 wheel drive. This is a race truck not a grocery go getter. You even see this with AEWD cars too. Many racers converting there AWD cars to RWD for drag racing

RPM converted it to rear wheel drive only. big power all wheel drive break a lot of driveline parts. Plus if it were all wheel drive, it couldn't do cool wheelies.

I have a 92 S-10 blazer 4 door that i want to make into a typhoon clone. It has 3.42 gears. 36mm swaybar. I am about to add 98 S-10 blazer brakes to it. I can use the front spindles from the 98 so i can retro fit the calipers from a 98. Plus the 98 blazers use larger front rotors. Then all i need is a rear axle from a 98 also for the rear disc brakes. But what I dont know is whats different about the internals of the 4.3L engine between the N/A version compared to the turbo version.

When it got to a point where we have like 12 or 13 GM's in the backyard, we said enough is enough and switched to Ford...which has only done us wrong once. But that's cuz I bought it from an old lady that drove it like a grany, then I was really hard on it, so I don't blame it... but Ford's still getting better yet!

The had a lot of momentum, people were buying there vehicles and were liking them, and they got into a comfort zone... invested too much money into there employee, especially those in management positions, and not enough money into research and development. The biggest reason why Ford isnt having the problems GM is is simply because they are more invested in overseas markets then GM is. No I'm not saying GM isnt overseas but lets face it Ford is FRIGGEN EVERYWHERE! I'm a GM guy so it saddens me to see GM in such ruin. Gm Owned a ton of makes too. Oldsmobile, Cadillac, GMC, Chevrolet, Holden, Pontiac, Saab, Buick, as well as other that I cant remember. They were also partnered or partial owners of Isuzu.

I am less then impressed with the fusion. Sure its a decent car and great sales but its just another cookie cutter car. And yes I know that Saab was bought out from GM I was just stating some of the makes they owned. Pontiac and Oldsmobile are both history now too. WHICH REALLY BUGS ME! GM could potentially come out of the slump. They need to seriously downsize which they already are and reduce production numbers which they have. I hope it wasnt too late....

GMs real problem was a bunch of CEOs to far outta touch with the real world to know what needed to be done.
The thing is they had Opel a German brand that usto be EVERYWHERE they ruined it. They couldn't see for years people didn't like FWD Cadilacs point in case the CTS and STS
Look at the bubble caprice instead of redesigning the Chassis they put a bigger body on the old chassis
GM ruined thier truck market with thier v8 diesel when they owned Perkins and 51% of Isuzu

True. If you are talking big trucks GM has nothing on Cummins and Ford. However I would put my GMC 2500HD Duramax W/6 speed Allison tranny against any powerstroke or cummins in a comparison. At the local truck pulls my truck took 1st and second place in its class (me driving took 2nd my nephew took 1st) and there were entries from both ford and dodge in the same class that had some mods while mine was stock on stock tiores and they had better tires. They all make good trucks though IMO.

Well I just know we stayed clear of the 6.6L so no personal experience but I know a few people who got them when they first came out and they failed at 75k-100k miles maybe the late ones were really good but GM didn't exactly have a good track record with diesels
I'm just talking about the light duty work trucks.
anyways that was just an example. GM's small cars weren't good ever and the Midsized were only ever ok (FWD) never anything to brag about.
The only thing is their gas p/u & suvs

On the other hand we had several (mostly second hand) 3500HDs with the 6.5L they were one of the best trucks in terms of handling a load it was just the engine that gave us fits we have one truck with over 300k miles as a wrecker but its went through 8 engines that we know of maybe even more some were rebuilt some were used but you get the idea
I'd love to get that allison behind a cummins on the other hand since Dodges trannies suck but it cost too much for the conversion

The thing is Isuzu is or was the largest diesel maker in Japan and for a few years in the world they make shitty cars but great diesel engines instead they gave people the 5.7L then 6.2,6.5,6.6 all were garbage while dodge had Cummins and Ford had Navistar even perkins is about = to Cummins in i6
Anyways my dad said in 1997 that if GM didn't change they would go bankrupt in about 10-15 years at that time we were on our second NEW GM diesel since 99 we only bought Ford and Dodge trucks

Anyways the big 3 have been making engines in Mexico forever. GM makes their 4cyl in CHINA (i'm not saying for does or doesn't) But I had the chance to buy a damaged container full of 4cyls is why I know.
So being made in Mexico whats new. I say abolish NAFTA and start putting high tarrifs on goods made outside and tax breaks on stuff here
