Still a sexy woman with relevant music such as this. I really do want her to hook up with Nile Rodgers again for new music, I think it'll be great for both of them.
This used to be played towards the end of the night back in the glory days of raves in '88-89! So too was Phil Collins 'in the air tonight'! I'm shocked to find out it was made in '82! Respect to those who remember it from the raves!

Is it just me or do songs not have a 'seasonal' feel anymore?
I mean songs like this were made for the Summer, but now records sound the same..
there are songs for all seasons, depending on the arrangement of the instruments and notes - I just dont think producers nowadays give a shit about those small details.. shame really
Thanks so much for this really cool version of a great song - I've never heard this before now! This really is much better than the single I bought all those years ago in er....ALUMN!
@ SPAZZ - I was merely saying that it would be unusual for Nile to be playing the bass because Bernard is the bass player (see cam's comment before mine)...but thanks for the lesson anyway (wondered what took you so long, totally forgot that I even commented on this video).
It's this type of music and all that great stuff still buried in the 40s thru 80s that has me buying up vinyls at garage sales / online sites / ads on craigslist / and in thrift stores and the local Vinyl store... modern music doesnt have that style or soul anymore... I can easily grab a vinyl on a whim and play it and odds are i'll enjoy the music... cant do that almost ever with modern tunes and get the same results.

I remember this song back in the day, I couldn't find this 12'' disc to save my life; GOD knows I looked. Definitely had Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards stamp on it. I think this was post Chic.
This is the regular 12" of Why on Mirage Records. It was a BIG hit in Europe in 1982. I was 10 when this came out and I remember when it came on the radio... loved it then, love it now. In fact, I love EVERYTHING that Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers have written and produced.
it's on a CD on amazon - Funky Town Grooves - Soul & Funk Collection Vol 1 - Mirage Records. Beautiful song. Loved it when it first came out and loved it just as much when it was played last tune at the Hacienda. Bernard & Nile turned their magic on this.
Yup, I totally agree!! BETTER than any new crap out there! I love you "Why by Carly Simon" I've always had and always will - lol Do you know that I still play this song after all these years? Yup, the ultimate fav of all time. Sing it to me baby!! La di da di da WHY La di da di da . . . tell me why . . . La di da di da!!
DJ Dick was playing this in his rare groove sets in Brum way before the rave scene, 49ers and the legandry Rococo nights at the tower ballroom, quality days
Yes guys, this song was loved by the French DJ and Hacienda Resident Laurent Garnier. He used to play this song at the end of his sets during raves parties in the 80's !!
This track rocked The Hacienda nightclub in Manchester for a few months back in 89 when the Hac had an eclectic mix of tunes. Lah-dee-dah-dee-dah! Great hook, thanks for sharing!
@Tha0men, True that cause they actually had real musicians playing on the records. This one was produced by Nile Rogers and he probably had Bernard Edwards on the records. Bernard was one of the greatest bass players of all time. Just listen to all the Chic records... It goes without saying. Listen to this Sister Sledge track... He's the greatest dance.. It's on youtube...
It is nice to see that I'm not the only one who has a passion for this song. It's a bit before my time (I'm from '86') but since I heard this song, I'm fascinated by it, such a good song!
The video to the track was funny, typical of the time, very cheap but interesting. Ms simon was walkng round the streets with on-lookers looking a little bemused/ baffled as to what the hell is going on! (by the way i was born in 76, just for the record so i remember this, i also remember she had a very wide mouth).
Thank You for the Music! :-) Just curious, did Larry Levan have the power to call Chic guys back to studio for this edit, bassline bits etc.? Beautiful track!
I don't have the 12 of this, but have it on the "Soup for One" soundtrack. Love the reggae vibe on this. New York during the post Disco era. One of the best eras for dance music was 1978-83.
Great, easy listening music.

Great, great song. Dig the break at 3:58 when the background vocals come in the most.
