  • Maybe there will be a new scifi channel not associated with NBC etc. Hopefully a scifi channel that actually picks up shows like Blake's 7. I don't think those at SYFY understand their audience at all. They could have produced a series like Starhunter which had a low-budget compared to the shows on the majors. They seriously need to stop making their own originals and just go back to re-runs until they can get someone who knows how to target the audience and not disrespect them.

  • @strawberryfilmmaka I couldn't agree with you more. It is about respect. Content makers that respect their audiences produce smart, funny, deep content that becomes classic. I like camp and schlock, but I like it because it's a train wreck that I can't turn away from. I'll rent Plan 9, I _own_ Firefly, Serenity, Red Dwarf, etc. Sub-grindhouse drek will not generate a cult following. I'd rather rent Zardoz than watch bad actors with a bad script and bad effects. Zardoz (bleck!) had Sean Connery!

  • @jericho444 I've seen better more interesting fan films than the drek they put on. And yeah Star Runners was cheesy. LOL But I do think that could have been a cool sf series. Problem is they'd be doing the series so it would probably turn out crap or be a great show and they'd pull it off the air. I don't mind cheesy sets, use of sound stages for outside locations ala Star Trek etc. It can be as cheap as it wants to be. LOL

  • @strawberryfilmmaka But they better have great stories to make up for it.

  • Your rant about this channel is so right jericho. SF channel is in worse shape than cartoon network. I wish they'd at least keep MST 3000 on there, but they won't even do that anymore. Imho, this channel just might as well die at this rate. Here's to what we had,the old sci fi and CN,may they be remembered as they were.

  • SyFy always has crappy B movies, I find them funny to watch

  • Syfy or whatever stupid name they invented sucks!!

  • Syfy movie is FAG! Rotten CGI!

  • Most of the shows make sci-fi look like a joke.

  • @Morgethein To the Dune fans - go check out the Wikipedia entry on Dune the movie. They correct a couple of points I make in this video (I stand humbled) and, indeed, they cover the earlier attempt to make the Dune movie.

I'm a big Frank Herbert & Dune fan. I'm a big Pink Floyd & H.R. Giger fan. So, yes, it hurts me that this didn't come together. Read the piece on Wikipedia, you'll see what a mess it would have been. But just imagine if they could have pulled it off - the soundtrack alone!!

  • @jericho444 Did I mention I was a Pink Floyd fan? I just looked at the video again and I'm wearing my Division Bell tee-shirt. Hee. :)

  • the guy that owns sci fi or sy fy or whatever the hell they call it now said it himself he hates geeks and nerds.....thats why the channel is shit now all they have are crappy direct to video garbage and wrestling ,that channel has been dead to me ever since they killed my farscape.......so fuck the sy fy channel

  • I miss Beyond Belief. We now have god-awful low-budget movies that look like they were made by a freshman in High School.

  • You look like that guy on youtube who got his warcraft account hacked and got pissed. No disrespect aha

  • I know of Dune and children of Dune... hope he isn't talking about children of dune I liked it >.< because I didn't know about the sci-fi dune

  • i love logical rants like yours, its not a bunch of cursing and screaming, its sorta like a nice conversation with an intelligent person, i agree with you too :)

  • I used to love the Sci-Fi channel, but everything's crappy now. They show these synthetic cheap movie that no one's ever heard of. They play the same movies over and over again. BORING. And now they show Wrestling????? WTH?!!

  • I refuse to watch the SyFy channel ever since they started airing pro wrestling. what the fuck is that doing on sci-fi channel?.And what do they have to show other than repeats of ghost hunter and lost? What a waste of air time.

  • great rant on dune and sci-fi channel i prefer david lynch's dune version to the newer sci-fi ones released a decade and it would be cool if they would release david lynch's version in the complete 6 hour version, the alan smithee version sucks

  • TV RIP

     1950s -- 2008

  • We have Chiller? thats a good network for now

  • Anyone who hates syfy is alright in my book, 5 stars.

You forgot to mention the super lame ghost hunters show.

  • I actually liked the revenge of bloody vill (EEK)

  • Yeah, the Sy-Fy channel could be so much more.

What the hell is this spelling name change thing,

it's soooo stupid! How in the hell do they stay in business putting on nothing but crap, crap and more crap?

  • Ghost Caught On Video. Check it out at Paranormal Activity In Ohio. Great Video.

  • At least Sci-Fi Channel shows Science Fiction programming unlike other channels that devalue their channel by showing non-related programming(i.e MTV)

Also Sci-Fi will be rebranded as SyFy in the fall 2009

  • you've got a good voice, you ever consider doing talk radio?

  • ...(5:20) the dune miniseries DID start on the water planet Caladan, not on a ship. Did you miss the beginning or something? Either way, no, Lynch was forcing his own vision on Dune, the costuming and directing did not reflect the book...though I sympathize that the studio screwed him over. The budget for the miniseries wasn't great but they still made a quality version. ****Either way, though, Scifi Channel sucks now, and it has been YEARS since stuff like dune...just monster-fest now.

  • Well that's usually what a director does. They put their vision to it because well they are the director

  • also the commercials are so long. You get 4 minutes of film and five minutes of commercials

  • Death Valley: The revenge of Bloody Bill?

    eviiiil!

  • You're drifting after 2.30 minutes, and if it were appropriate, I'd suggest weight loss for you health.

  • Amen, sir!

I'm so disappointed in the Sci-fi channel. Why do they feel the need to run 3-6 hours of the same show every night?! Sometimes twice!

The last time I turned to the Sci-fi network they were showing wrestling. What the hell has that got to do with Science Fiction? I can't stand channels deviating from their namesake (ei: Cartoon Network showing live action movies, MTV not showing music...)

Plus they canceled my beloved MST3K, and for that they must pay...

  • Cornjob, opinions are like assholes - everyone has one. Fortunately, I get to put my opinion on a site that the world can view ... all for my own entertainment. Do I care if anyone views my video or shares my views? Nope. I enjoyed recording my opinion. People have agreed with me, people have disagreed and people have even made fun of me. We've all participated and all enjoyed the process. Thanks for participating, Cornjob. I think I'm inspired to make another video, all because of you!

  • i couldn't make it through the first few seconds of this. specifically, the "this is jericho".....if you don't like it, don't watch the channel. why would you think you would need to tell anyone why you don't like it? just look how low the view count is....

  • And about "Death Valley Revenge Of Blood" or whatever, sci-fi has always had crap like that on. It's too bad they canceled Mystery Science Theater 3000, or they could just show the same movies they air right now on MST3K.

  • I agree that most of the sci-fi channel's programming is garbage.

But basing most of your "argument" on one thing,(the Dune mini-series vs the Lynch movie) doesn't really convince me that sci-fi is beyond redemption. They still run Doctor Who, right?

I'm just happy they made their versions of Dune and Children of Dune at all. As bad as they were it's better than airing another shitty star wrek/shit wars movie.

  • Wow! HZ - you win! *applauds!*

I have never been so subtlety and eloquently and literately insulted! Well done! I'm laughing my fat ass off!

The TIE fighters - I forgot those were even there! I have a TIE fighter, bomber and Darth's TIE sitting on my desk at work (not mint, not in box). I wanted a few more, so I bought the cheapest ones I could find on eBay ($12 total). My job is going so badly and my ass is SO fat, I've never gotten around to taking those to work.

  • Alas, it appears as if YouTube lost my first comment. To paraphrase, I merely sympathsized with your point of view and stated how the Sci-Fi Channel is probably no longer your demographic by illustrating the characters in their movies as part of the anti-fatass agenda.

  • Alas, this is sad, but true. In the meantime, may I recommend the Food Network as an adequate replacement for your viewing needs? Or perhaps a PBS? There is a lovely show called "The Antiques Roadshow" in which curios like those Mint-in-box TIE Fighters you have collecting dust are selling like hotcakes (sorry, I know, I should lay off the food references, as you are probably still drooling from the Food Network reference).

  • Finally, consider "Rock Monster". Again, the hero is a slim white boy who easily kills the hefty rock monster AND wins the very hot east European girl. Howwever, the most gross and cruel depiction of fatasses is in "Ogre". A village of thin white people are aided by a group of slim and healthy teens to bring down a hungry and enormous ogre of a man. The eponymous ogre is the worst stereotype since Uncle Tom, now for the American Fatass. You have a right to be angry.

  • First, consider the classic "Shark Attack 3: Megaladon." The protagonist is a healthy, slim, and atheletic male whom is so charming he manages to get a girl to have sex with him by asking, "What'd you say I take you home and eat your pussy?" Then, we have the movie "Gryphon." The heroes are all of the Aryan persuasion, and slim to boot. However, the evil sorceror and main antagonist of the movie is actually a very fat man. And he gets pwned! What kind of message is that trying to send??

  • Hey man, I totally understand why you hate Sci-Fi Channel so much. After watching a myriad of Sci-Fi channel movies, I have realized that a good part of your angst is because Sci-Fi has left your viewing demographic behind. And by "behind," I'm referring to your ass's prodigious width. Yes, unfortunately, it seems as if Sci-Fi no longer wishes to appeal to the so-called "fatass" viewers out there. This is evidenced by the protagonists in the movies produced for the Sci-Fi Channel.

  • Krape's just one of those fucks who uses the anonymity of the internet to spew hatred at the world. They're usually impotent, self-loathing cowards with no life no prospects, and no one who's ever loved them. Right, Krape?

  • At least he probably knows how to spell crap, moron. Which is what the Sci-Fi channel airs, 24-7.

  • Hey, don' worry about all of the morons calling you names. They must watch sci-fi stuff too. Why else would they have checked out your video? Besides, Farscape, a show killed by the Sci-Fi Channel, is the best series ever.

  • Hey. I completely agree with you!

  • Krape? Buddy? I think you have issues. Many issues. Have you considered therapy? You don't happen to work for the US Postal Service do you?

  • @krapemail maybe he met his wife when he had less body fat, less facial hair and more head hair, and she is still with him because she loves him

  • Sci-fi Channel is a disgrace of scifi fans. Yes, they have a few good shows like Star Trek, Dr. Who, Stargate but they most show low budget films especially during weekends.

And most of their so called 'scifi' films are more horror films.

  • alot of girls like sci-fi geeks, just get out there, you know?

    -Charliex3

  • your right...but i hate to face the fact that if it did revolve around the geeks pov show wise then, only geeks would watch it and the average population of average tv views out number us soo there for they dont have super nerdy stuff were into to cause the average view wouldnt or couldnt appreciate it and they would loose money ...but i will admit they have a couple of good shows on there every now and then along with some good minis ( the stand) that and i love their shorts ^_^

  • i honestly didnt know there was 6 hours filmed!!! i have the version with the paintings it help explain alot then again i still!! havent read the dune books. but i did see the 2 hour version then the 3 hour.. the 3 hour made more sense but then again im not a dune geek lol

  • i bet the ring on his finger is a lord of the rings ring.

  • I'll take that bet - you lose! :)

That's my wedding ring. It has a kinda-Celtic design. But, my wife wouldn't have actually married me if LoR was part of our wedding in any way shape or form! ;)

  • dude your so right.....their shows are so crappy....I once saw a show about a slightly larger bear was attacking some guys and when they shot at it from 10ft the bullets hit all around it......It seems all these computer generated monster shows are all the same but just have different monsters....typical unoriginal thats why I dont watch TV except the news

  • Damn straight. thank you for your accurate commentary on the D movie/commercials/informercials/Stargate SG1 channel. It seems that whenever they have the opportunity to show somethingdifferent, they air one episode and then nthe next week revert back to the same boring show or something even worse than that same boring show.
