I think the rebuild is nice, I had a chance to play it 2 wks after it's re-install back in 1997 and although I didn't play the original Klais I liked the way the rebuild played. I was also fortunate to help the organ tuner and then walk through the organ. What an instrument. I am friends with Peter.
The picture at 8:35 to 9:07 is not Bath Abbey, it's the modern Benedictine abbey at Downside, about 15 miles south-west of Bath. That is a much bigger building with a magnificent 141-speaking stop Compton organ, upon which Dom Gregory Murray produced his noted compositions and improvisations. It is home to the relics of Saint Oliver Plunkett, Reformation Martyr.
Bath Abbey is not a Cathedral, although it is built on the site of an earlier Norman Cathedral. It is in the diocese of Bath & Wells, which why there is some times confusion over it's status. Wells is the home of the diocesan Cathedral.
@johnorganum - no, the Hill is in Cromer PC. This organ is an 1895/1914 Norman & Beard, rebuilt by the merged Hill, N&B (confused yet?) in 1930, 1948, 1972-3, then by Klais. Personally, I hope that the Klais rebuild is undone and the mechanical action ditched. The old pneumatic action was fine - the new action is unreliable and unsatisfactory to the touch. The new pipework is also too brash and narrow-scaled. It sounds nothing like a German Baroque organ (which is what it's trying to be) anyway.
Please do not include 'Anglican' in the title - this beautiful Abbey is simply known as 'Bath Abbey'. The English are not worried about differentiation between the Anglican and Catholic churches in titles - and neither should you be.
@ds1868 It is totally erroneous and false to say that " the English " people " are not worried about differentiation between the Anglican and Catholic churches in titles " :this is certainly tue of the " High Church " , " Anglo-Catholic " English people , who are a small minority of the English , but wrong of the English population as a whole .
@parpaillotcamisard No I'm not. The English are simply not worried about it. As A Frenchman, you may be, but we're not thanks. And I don't need a frog to tell me whether I'm dishonest and biased. Mind your manners.
I have lived in England , so I can affirm that what you say is simply wrong , wrong and wrong again !!!
Most ( yes , not all ) English people do make a distinction , and a clear one , between Anglicanism and Roman Catholicism , even though this discontents you obviously .
By the way , I am not a " frog " , to use your highly depreciating term about me , and the fact you use such a word proves that you are particularly at ease with prejudices and bias ...
