  • Wow, what a great idea. I'm just starting out and even though I'm almost 60 I am excited about taking up this challenge! :D Thank you for posting this!

  • This is great! I am also an adult skater - started lessons only about 6 months ago but one day (hopefully soon) I hope to be doing a waltz jump too!

  • very good! Your distance is excellent, but you could get some more height. Other than that, love the video!

  • Love the music learning my waltz jump to ill get there, eventually.

  • thanks...not corny BTW

  • Awesome video! Looks like you're very good

  • actually I love Nessun Dorma and I am supposed to start learning this move next week in my adult skating class I started four weeks ago! :D

  • good job, keep working on it!

  • how did you decide which direction to rotate to? i m doing both now, hopefully i ll figure out which way feels more comfortable for me

  • @candyfeehily depends on what hand you write with

  • @candyfeehily from what I've been told, handedness is only a "guide" for what direction you might jump and spin with. This will also be interesting for me to figure out since I write left handed, but do other things (throwing, kicking, etc), with my right. So far, although I'm just starting out with my two foot spin, I can spin fairly easily in either direction. I'm also finding the same thing with Bunny Hops--once I get it in my head which foot is doing what. :)

  • @jfluter i think we are very much in the same boat. i m right handed but for skating, both directions feel the same to me so now i do all my jumps and spins in both directions until one takes over the other. I still can't make up my mind yet and now my left foot landing is better, one foot spin counter clockwise is better but clockwise two foot spin, backward cross over and 3 turns are better on the right ... messed up... x-(

  • I'm still working on my double Axel

  • Good progress. Axel calls ;)

  • i love this video! i like to watch the progress you made and like the music as well. hope to make my waltz jump better too!

  • great progress. i have just started mine about four weeks ago.

does anyone know what the music is?

  • Hops. Sorry but the first one was a hop. but towards the end they got better

  • Hey, congratulations! I am an adult skater and have been skating for 8 months. Seeing your video encourges me a lot. I am now learning waltz jump, half flip, and stuff. Have you done any competition or test yet?

  • This is great, I love seeing the progress. I'm just learning these. Oh yeah, and I love this song. =D

  • Great video! This might sound random, but do you skate at Highland Ice Arena?

  • @iMissiShow

Yup, you're correct. This video was taped at Highland Ice Arena. I don't skate there anymore though. I'm no longer in the Seattle area.

  • @ahaspicy I thought so! I've only skated over there once, but I knew I recognized it. :)

  • waw you just gave me hope ;p lol ,very well done !

  • Nice, they look great

  • no offence but that was reaaaallllly bad. i can do one thats alot higher and better...

  • wow youre really good i just started learning the waltz jump with no coach and i can do it but only holding onto the side so far

  • @rhinoslover that's good keep doing them on the side, and then try one off the wal right after you do one on it. Without even stopping to think about it, and then, just progress forward, it worked for me!! Good luck!!

  • Dude, get a frikin' coach!

  • Remember to point your toe when you kick your right leg in the air! ;)

  • i love your video, the progression and your waltz jumps at all levels. you give me hope! I've been taking ice skating for almost a year now and i'm scared to do the waltz jump... my instructor ask me to practice it this week... so scared.. i'm an adult skater... just afraid of falling..

  • @BecsMom

I'm an adult skater too, been taking lessons every Saturday for about 4 months. We just practiced the waltz jump off the ice for the first time, so came to YouTube to check it out on the ice. I love the way the jump feels off the ice. This video gives me hope, too!

  • Wow. It looks perfect (:

  • I liked watching your transformation. I wish move people would post videos like this.

  • @XxvolturiluvvxX

Have YOU ever tried the waltz jump??

  • everyone is different, everyone learns differently. and you shouldnt brag. bragging gets you no where.

  • this is a cute idea!

A tip: Don't bring your left leg directly back before landing. Land with it bent in front of you, then bring it back when you land.

  • wow thts kl :) am just startn to do this jump n it looks really bad but this is a gd insentive to keep trying

  • Haha i found my first waltz jump the other day and one from the weekend, its really cool to see how youve improved :D

  • great job! i just started ice skating 6 weeks ago, & i just learned the waltz jump today! oh boy, its not as easy as it looks. haha. but i'm starting to get it. how long did it take you to get it down?

  • great to see your confidence and progress grow over time. Great work!

  • verrry good and helpful, im trying to do a waltz jump at the moment! :S

  • this is cool that you documented your progress. good idea!

  • ahaha , good job ! :D

  • nice music. whoohoo!!

  • arent you suposted to land on ur toe pick?

  • hello no youd go flying!

  • Yes...you're supposed to point your toe in the air, then roll down to the outside edge of the blade as you land. It isn't really dangerous to not land on the toe with a waltz jump, though...it's just a good habit to get into. You'd hurt yourself on a harder jump if you didn't!

  • yeah you are supposed to.

  • that's really sweet, well done! you can see the improvement over the years :-)

  • your speed and power is enough for a double axel...it's just waiting to be done. good job on the waltz jump.

  • It looks like you were going to do an axel! : ) Nice work!

  • Nice!!! Great progress throughout. I wish I could so better waltz jumps, but my jumps suck! It's nice to monitor progress, I bring my camera toe the rink sometimes and just tape myself so that I can see what I am doing wrong. It's embarassing to see people watching me tape myself, that's the only reason why I don't tape every practice. How long have you been skating for?

  • Around 4 yrs. The first set of clips was after about a year of taking lessons. Keep taping yourself!!

  • I hope u keep taping yourself too!!!! You make the Waltz jump look like a million bucks! I wish I had the ability to do that, I am a weird learner, I can do nice flips but I cant do nice waltz jumps. I can do outside spread eagles but I cant fix my weird forward crossovers. At the rate I am going, I am probably gonna be landing a triple loop before I can even land a double salchow, which is easier lol

  • Cool. :) I'll take 5yrs to get that kind of distance but it's a good idea. Seeing progress is always nice. Good job.

  • the jumps from this year...everytime your about to jump im like.....is he gonna do an axel...omg he's gonna do an axel....and then...nuthin...lol

  • The music is perfect! Fun (and inspiring!) to see your jump progress over the years!

  • Come on, now and a single axel. Just lift up off that edge. :)

  • Ha! You're funny! I'm working on it. (btw, love your singing).

  • Thank you vey much! I used to be a professional figure skater. You can do the axel. Keep it up! Hope you subscribe to my vids.

    Cheers,

    Scot :)

  • Just curious to know if you feel your improvement has more to do with the speed with which you enter the jump, or the kick, or the checking, or whatever other technique that you found most helpful?

  • For me. First, it's focusing on going up rather than around... then the kick through of the free leg (again up and not around). Everything else kinda falls into place eventually.

  • Great video! Just love it! I am a beginner adult skater and I had a good laugh from your humorous juxtaposition between the serious music and the "elementary" move/jump. I appreciate your humour! For me, any little feat feels like a great accomplishment at my age (real age not shown on profile)! So, cheers and happy skating! Keep posting your waltz jumps throughout 2009, 2010, 2011, . . . . Even though you may not be gaining in height, I think you are getting more "air time."

  • Thanks!! I'm glad someone got my kinda humor.

  • hey cool! It looks like you get progressively better at pushing off your L foot/toes to get that springy take-off. Keep it up ;)

  • Thank you.

  • haha you got better throughout!

how did u jump so high?!

  • Thank you. I'm still working on getting it higher, but I think the key is the swinging of the free leg and, to me, focus on going up.
