A lot of the critics on here seem to be propagating the myth of an American meritocracy. They seem to think their grandparents simply pulled themselves up by the bootstraps and that access and opportunity has been available to everyone. Nobody is "whining" about slavery. If you knew your history you would know that people of color were robbed outright of the opportunities that MADE the middle class. Where are only talking 60 something years here. We covered some of his "work" in my Sociology class - it was little more than vapid, intellectually immature means of reconstructing arguments against preferential policies, etc., in terms of "institutional racism" and "honorary white" racial/ethnic groups (aka the "Uncle Tom" argument). Ironically, Dr. Bonilla-Silva is probably one of the biggest bigots in academia right now

The management staff at Duke is Majority White and I have witness some white managers networking and using the system to manufacture scenarios to make a person be at fault for something that was not in their control. As adults it is our responsibility to find traits that we like in people that we would normally shun or ignore. Dr. Bonilla-Silva's books are excellent. He discovered that people of color are actually more judgmental toward people of color due to internalized discrimination.
