could the unspoken rumour that cronenberg is actually a renegade US army kernal fort detrick biological wepons station, maryland attempting to blow the whistle on secret releases of airborne viral toxins in the NY subway system really be true
Argento makes boring films? Hardly. Cronenberg is not a horror director in the strict sense, so it's stupid to state that he is the best horror film director ever. Rabid is certainly not his best film. I disagree that Chambers is the "quintessential Cronenberg actor", because his films are not, as Cox imagines, about the "the twin American obsessions of cleanliness & sex" (?!). If there is a quintessential Cronenberg actor, its more likely to be Robert Silverman, Ron Mlodzik or James Woods.
Cronenberg was only just starting to make movies outside of the horror genre when this intro was made and so was still seen as being very much part of it at the time (which he was in the 70's & 80's regardless of his position now). Also, when Cox says that Argento is boring he's talking strictly in the thematic sense and in this regard he's right - Argento's films are exercises in cinema technique and little else (hence the De Palma comparison).

Fascinating introduction, even if I disagree with his opinions on De Palma and especially Argento.

He thinks it's Croenberg's best?! Really? I'd say that it's one of his weakest, to be perfectly honest.

Interesting info about the film, and he clearly knows his stuff, though he's obviously pretty opinionated. But hey, he sounds pretty smart.
