This is a classic documentary. I have the collectors edition on DVD with a book, and had the pleasure of Mrs. Billie Barrett Greenbey, from Barrett Sisters autographing my book in March At Mrs. Delois 84th Birthday celebration. Say Amen Somebody is a must have....
@87Asafo OMG! LOL!!! I am scared to tell you then, that for Ms. Delois 85th birthday this past March I had the opportunity of spending time with her and Ms. Billie at her house, and she signed my book as well. They are wonderful women. I thank God that I had the chance to know them on a personal level. I miss talking to Ms. Delois on the phone. She was awesome. I consider it a blessing from God.
@favored9 Lol its cool...i'll get over my jealousy. But its always a blessing to be around the elders, they have so much wisdom and history within them.
Who is the lady singing at 1:15, and what is the song she is singing? If someone could please upload it or direct me to it, then I would really appreciate it.
Oh my goodness as a young child I used to have my dad rent this movie for me all the time and I watched it like it was my very first time every time Thanks for sharing!!!
amen, that word dates back to the Egyptian Sun God, or Son God, Amun-Ra also spelled Amen-Ra, the light of the world, Gods's Sun,giving up his life, the sun's energy, so we might live, casting out darkness and giving life to the world, religion is sun worship coupled with the power of belief
They are not relate but they sang together. In 1940, Sallie formed the Sallie Martin Singers, with Roberta Martin (1907-1969), Willie Webb, and Eugene Smith. The later members of her group were herself, Roberta Martin, and Doris Akers.
got the dvd a week ago from amazon. THe 25th anniversary edition is really cleaned up, and it includes a cd of the music only. Also on the DVD, you can find menu to play just the music selections. My mother LOVED it. I filmed her watching it as I have her enjoying Mahler's 8th and b-minor mass by Bach. She's 87.
wow i didn't know this was available on DVD. I bought it about ten years ago on VHS. i will have to cop this one. one of my favorites of all time. i cry everytime i watch it.
I am commenting this movie to death here on YouTube, but it is just so powerful, my favorite documentary, maybe even my favorite film of all time... definitely my favorite soundtrack.
Chills: 0:38 Chills: 1:09 SUPER Chills: 1:39, this film is full of goosebump moments.
Amen! I know so many people who are my age and younger who don't know the history of Gospel music. We won't know where we're going until we know where we've been.
This true documentary will stay with me forever. The saints are gone to glory, but are
forever with us , in this film.

Delois Barrett Campbell, one of the Barrett sisters, died today. It's good this documentary was made before all these people are gone

What's the song at 2:10, and who's singing? Please?
TheRegisEduardo 2 years ago
The song you asked about in video is Highway To Heaven. The late O'Neal Twins are the ones on singing on the mike. Don't know who the choir is.
