  • Awesomely done. I dont play it quite as well as you!

  • i am just starting up tin whistle playing again and this is such inspiration!!! thaaaaanks a mill

  • It took me ages but I learned this song after listening to you play it. Very nice, love the rhythm you have thanks for the inspiration :)e

  • @bites how long did it take you to learn ??

  • @siobhanlucy123 took a couple of days to get the time to sit down and get it bit by bit. Good feelin when it all clicked :)

  • Jees man you are good. I'll never be able to play like this.

  • I just bought this whistle while down in Nenagh last week. I hope to one day be able to play it like that. Loved it

  • Hi!

Is this Whisle in Key D?

Whats the difference between brass and Nickel Bodies?

  • do you play any other instruments? I looked up this song cause I wanted to play it on the violin but didn't get the rhythm. And now I've heard it the notes no longer make sense. Ughh...I just don't understand the rhythm at all, confuses me so much.

  • pretty impressive! :) your playing is great. im playing tin whistle myself and i'm still struggling with cuts, tabs and rolls. when i play this tune i can't make it sound that irish like you do. i simply dont know where to put a cut or tab or roll. when i do it doenst sound like wanted it to sound if you what i mean. it doesnt sound so ''full'' of cuts or tabs and i dont like it. how did you figure this out to use cuts, tabs and rolls properly?

    cheers mate!

  • @nyhyl Hi, go pick up a copy of The Essential Guide to Irish Flute and Tin Whistle by Grey Larsen. It's where I started and It's all explained in there better than I can do it. You can find it on Amazon and it's totally worth every penny. It will keep you busy for a couple of years too.

    All the best to you!!

  • so beautiful music makes me homesick for ireland

  • I think this is my favourite of all of your videos; this whistle sounds like so much fun to play.

  • I find the commentary before the tune useful. I'm trying to decide whether to buy a Dixon Trad or Mellowdog or both.

Anyway thanks for the information and sample.

  • Sorry for the stupid question but how different is the Dixon Trad from other whistles? I'm thinking of buying a whistle but I don't know what to buy. Any suggestions? Nice video!

  • @judoka1976 hi..dixon trad is a very good whistle..But some good pipers are selling, these years, some modified Feadog whistles that are fantastic... I played the whistle that the maker calls MellowDog, a modified Feadog, and it was really good.. Anyway check my channel, I make my whistles myself and that's not bad...

  • i have the same one, but i have it in brass :P

lol, did anyone else notice that he never lifted his index finger while playing the jig :P?

  • "lol, did anyone else notice that he never lifted his index finger.."

    Yes I do.

    Watch around 43>49.

Most of the tune sits lower on the whistle though.

  • @VanCorny It's a reel, not a jig :D

  • @VanCorny lol... you fail, first : its a reel.... second , yes he is playing the reason that he dont move that fingers becuae use the others 3.... so.... you epic fail lol!

  • i forgot to tell that i live in Brazil =) i love this country because it has an amazing nature; brazil is not only amazônia but everywhere is beautiful unless the many social problems to be solved...

    Thx

  • i bought a dixon dx006 (aluminium tunable whistle) and it ll come in about 10days, it cost me 66 U.S. dollars and what i want to know is: are the dixons whistles good as they say, in your opinion?

i have a feadóg but i never played other whistle besides mine and even actually i never saw other whistle

i live in a state that has an europian colonization but the irishs here are not a strong community and the ones i know dont play whistles... this is not at all known in my country

  • Hello to Brazil from California. :-)

Well, I've never played nor have I seen that particular model of Dixon so can't tell what it will be like.

I'm sure it will be just fine and you will enjoy it.

The type I have is well made and it plays in tune with somewhat of a pure sound.

It won't sound as raspy as your Feadog most likely.

Every whistle plays differently so take some time to get used to your new whistle.

Do let me know what you think of it.

    Cheers!

  • Finally I'm with my whistle in hand and it was better than i expected; it's in the key of D and have a full usable nickel tunning slide.

The aluminium gives a brighter sound, pretty well-defined.

I aproved Dixon's whistles, they are very resistant and also have a nice design =)

In future, maybe next year, i ll get a Dixon's duo (whitle and picollo) in the key of Low D and i feel that i can trust Dixon's instruments.

There is one band in my city, that has half a million

    Thx for your advices

  • ( ...)There is one band in my city, that has half a million inhabitants, with has a whistle player heheeheh

I like this kind of music and I hope to learn more

  • hi, i have a dixon and i would never again buy any other tinwhistle, they're amazing quality:-)

  • nice, im thinking about buying a dixon

  • great playing, not so great whistle imho...

  • That was good.

  • Brilliant.

  • I love this video! It has inspired me to learn this song. I got the notes online and I just got a dixon trad ( nickel). It is a great whistle, but you are right, it is easy to over blow. Thanks for the postings.

  • Gorgeous playing!

  • amazing o_O :D

  • Is it a DXTRAD or DXTRND model?

    great tune...

  • its dxtrnd because he told NIQUEL ^^ i hope help u^^

  • excellent playing! great tune and tone, nice ending.

  • lovely playing!

  • How much does it cost to get one? Cause I want to get one for my sister she loves that type of music and she wants one........

  • You can get various tin whistles from the majority of any music store. Long n mcquaids, the place I bought mine, had numerous models to choose from, anywhere from 40 dollars to in the hundreds.

  • I have seen all of your videos, and you are a great musician! Keep them coming.

  • Doesn't have to be exactly how someone else plays it - that's how it becomes your interpretation - I've never heard it played the same way twice. I notice, also, that you play out the corner of your mouth like I do.

  • Nothing short of great!!!

  • That sounded great!

  • that was pretty sweet man. How did you get into playing that? I'd like to try my hand at something like that, I love celtic music.

  • I just got a whistle and book and tons celtic of music to listen to. Its just a matter of time on the instrument. It comes. It will for you too. Its a slow process though... for me it is anyway. Just enjoy the learning and playing.

    Good luck!

  • OK, shoot. How many time ago you have begun?

You had previous music experience of some kind?

I ask because I'd like to compare with others. I begun from complete zero 6 months ago and I'm proceeding, although very slowly.

    Thank you so much.

  • rock 'n' roll baby!

  • very beutifull celtic style !

  • Love the music, love you playend, love the reverb (which we can see since you start talkin...hehehe)...Hope you can see a video of mine...

    thanks

  • very good!!! nice technique and control!!!

    NICE!!

  • Brilliant! When I saw this video I bought the same whistle. Hopefully, one day I'll be able to play this tune.

  • maith thú! iontach deas! keep it up! =D

    (well done, very nice)

  • Hi, I have a Dixon Alloy "High D" and that has the same characteristics as your trad, very easy to overblow and fairly quiet. Maybe its a Dixon thing? But a great whistle all the same. I am very impressed with your playing. Well done! Peace!

  • dude, you do good! I've been playing for a while and you sound better that I do(I don't get to practice much though).... well done!

  • i play the tin whistle also. Can you send me your brain and fingers for a few months? I'll return residual when i am done.

    Include your return address. Thanks.

  • Ha! I'm afraid need all the brain cells I can hold on to. :-D

  • It's amazing so beautiful music played on so little instrument. Thanks for sharing!
