The Soviet Union signed a nonaggression pact with Germany last. Before that, Germany had a nonaggression pact with many countries, and Poland among others.

1 Russia was never allied with Hitler. All countries occupied were ment to be buffer zone between Russia and Germany. Finland was defeated and fully agreed to concessions in 1945.
2.Hungary and Checkoslovakia were internal parts of USSR, there was no reason why we should've let them go.
3.We didn't loose in Afghan. But didn't win either. Gorbachev's politics. It's not like you in Nam, Where you lost 4 times more soldiers and faced revolution at home.

And the victory in WWII is credited to America/Britain. No other fronts could have been successful if the Atlantic battle was not successful and therefore makes it the most important battle of WWII. The sonar technology the Americans developed to detect the German U Boats and the Americans blockade of Japan saved Russia from total annihilation - sorry.

The Soviet Union did nothing but defend its own territory, and very poorly at that, and then marched in on Berlin because Hitler had already lost the war to the Allies and his Soviet spies in Japan told him how no invasion to Russias east was possible due to US intervention in the war.

@batutil after the Japanese surrender, Stalin offered troops to help occupy Japan. Truman told him no. the decision to use the nukes was part of a longer term strategy, too. if the US had them but hadn't used them, the other countries of the world would've always doubted our willingness to use them. the only way to prove we would use them was to do it.

@FrankieJames7 The Soviets fought on one front, because of the U.S. You see, we owned Japan and thats the reason Stalin could use his eastern front army to converge in Moscow to defeat Hitlers troops after -6 degree weather wore them out. In Africa had the U.S./Britain coalition not been successful then you would have Italy to deal with too. Both victories are attributed to the U.S. and the Soviets had nothing to do with either.

nevskli04, USA was planning on entering WWII and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor hastened the time of entry. USA and Britain fought WWII on a global scale and not just 1 front, and USA entered the war in North Africa in Nov. 1942. Japan and its excellent and very large fleet had to be knocked out of the war. The 500,000+ trucks the USA alone sent to USSR allowed the USSR to convert truck factories to produce tanks and arty. USSR only produced ~ 110,000 to ~120,000 trucks during WWII, etc.

Russia did'nt win world war 2. reaching berlin through unoccupied lands doesnt matter. do you realize that the US had 16 million soldiers fighting in world war 2? russia couldnt even arm 2.5 million let alone win the war... without the US breeching Germany on DDAY or the British Empire re-taking Africa and stomping out italy, the war could not be won. it was a world effort... and as for napoleon.. wasnt Great Britain and austria the ones who fought nopoleon the most? yeah shut the hell up.

Historically, when Russia is invaded, they panic and fling as many people at the invaders as possible. This, combined with the size of Russia itself, slows the attacking force down, till winter hits. The winter has always saved Russia from defeat, not it's military prowess.
