  • Looks like the set of Teenage Werewolf; probably, as they were both A.I.P. movies...would've been cool if Michael Landon made a hairy cameo...

  • I like how the old folks were "rockin" out too lol

  • VERY GOOD BUT ANYONE HEARD DAVE BERRY'S VERSION, WITH THE POUNDING BASS PLAYED BY RED FLEET ?

  • I beleave it was 40 years ago today that he died.He sure has not been forgotten!

  • It does sound like Heartbreak Hotel...Uncanny! Whoa who copied who?

  • @anastasia1959 I could think of another couple of songs that sounds more like Heartbreak Hotel than this one

  • Sounds like "heartbreak Hotel".

  • The plots(and the dialogue) in these 1950's movies haven't aged very well but the music certainly has. Danny and the Juniors got it right when they sang, "Rock and Roll Will Never Die", and YouTube is doing it's part to make sure that that prediction comes true.

  • HE WAS SO G R E A T *****

  • hey, i am definitely a gene vincent lover but doesn't this sound like heartbreak hotel? a copy?

  • Best ever. Did anyone else see him doing this in Boy Meets Girl on UK TV in 1960? Limped on from the darkest of dark bouckgrounds draggin that leg. Unforgettable.

  • the duke of kool

  • Gene's great.

Did you ever notice how in high school movies of this vintage the actors were never teen agers; they were always like 35. And no, it's not just the styles.

  • :)) coooooooooool song i like

  • LOVE it ~ what a great song!

  • Now this is a great performance. And I love how he flirts with the three elder ladies :)

  • That's the point !

  • top.......

  • the reverb and the spaghetti thin tone from that Fender strat is getting me high

  • gene vincent is one of the best artists ever and hes s little known so it is are job to show are friends the wonder that is geene. rip gene thank you for changing my life

  • Like the Rosetta stone, in a way...

    Way to go Gene!

    History lives through your songs!!!

  • Real name, Eugene Vincent Craddock. No relation to "Crash".

  • Eres grande entre los grandes

  • I love this song! Great performance by GV! BTW, this scene was taken from the 1958 movie, "Hot Rod gang". With John Ashley and lots of wild Hot Rods!

  • This is good you can hear the blues in it better than elvis ripp off thank god for the afro American and their music and dancing they tort us all how to do it we coppied them how to be cool and do this like that thanks.

  • heartbreak hotel copied this song

  • 12th october coming up

  • I'd love to be my age in those times.

When fags were almost free, sex was actually naughty and real talent hit the charts rather than autotuned shit.

  • @millz726 right on

  • the heart of rock 'n roll right here!!!

  • Gee, Gene Vincent, I sure miss you.

Mind you, this song sounds an awful lot like Heartbreak Hotel on the verses.

  • Holy Shit!!

  • The Dancing Boys!!! LOL

  • Skinny white sailor

I miss your sad Virginia whisper

I miss the voice that called my heart

    Sweet Gene Vincent

    Young and old and gone

  • @JSavic I read it as vagina whisper..

  • This song is just DIRTY.

ALWAYS loved it and just about anything out of Gene Vincent. Awesome!

  • How cool do these fellas look! Rock on Gene!

  • these guy's know what cool is.

  • nice vid's

  • Those where the days

  • This song is cool, but I don't remember hearing it here on the radio, ever. Gene was known for Be Bop a Lulu, thats all. These guys definetly fit the description of godd looking punks, I kidd you not, punks. Their also dressed sharp, the tight black pants, white socks..which were meant to be seen, the collar up on the shirt/jacket(a must) and those hairdews(waterfalls & ducktails). We didn't see too too many punks or greasers in our highschool, more greasers however. Thx4 postin'

  • It sounds like Presley's Heartbreak Hotel isn't it? but certanly is a good song.

  • @22LuisEHR

Good observation, they are real simiilar in structure...but the "baby, baby, baby" chorus is great...

  • the 17th of April is the 50th Anniversary of the car crash that killed Genes best friend Eddie Cochran and injured Gene remember and play their music forever and a day.

  • great great song. still sounds new. long live rock n roll.

  • This is the best thing Gene ever did; what a beautiful, eerie song.

  • This is the "Baby Blue" of Bob Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue."

  • no it isn't , if you would've read the wikipedia article ud know at least that

  • Love those old fiery guitar licks

  • The guitar players on Lotta loving are Johnny Meeks lead Buck Owens Rhythm and Bobby Jones bass The one and only Cliff had left after the october 56 session Lotta loving is June 57.

  • what year was this

  • viadmirobamaosaama

From late 50's Presume 1958 Film

That was and still is the Best time to have been a Teenager in UK

    The Forever TeddyBoy

  • @1950sTeddyboy probably in the USA too

  • ya know players like Eric Clapton can fly all over the neck of a guitar like lightning but that style just does nothing for me......I've grown to love the primitive sound of just old raw rock....a vintage fender guitar through a roaring hot "tube amplifier" with plenty of spring reverb....I just love that low down sound

  • He's just too cool to be criticised!

  • Gene Vincent was dangerous cool.........

  • Elvis had Gene vincent on his jukebox Heartbreak hotel came first what is is with this rip off thing just listen to a great record that was not a hit.

  • muy buen ritmo vamos todos a bailar

  • question: which came first.....Heart break Hotel or this? Somebody ripped sombody else off real bad

  • Hi inkey2

Reply to being ripped off many Rock n Roll / Rockabilly sound similar.

I am great Fan of Gene Vincent ; Elvis ; Big O and many more.

This has smilarities to H/Hotel but thats all,

In Video one on left viewing looses his cap & comes up with a Bit of Elvis type movement. This probably down to Film Studio wants.

As to Your Question H/Hotel 1956 & Baby Blue 1958 full 2 years later.

But what does it matter NONE of the Great Stars will ever be replaced.

    No possible All one offs

  • to 1950sTeddyboy: Thanks for the info....just curious....did any copyright litigation ever come of this......like the way George Harrison got sued for My Sweet Lord. Many times things like this were settled out of court and no one ever knew.

  • Hi Inkey See You live in the States ( I'am UK)

I doubt very much if ever a court case or anything.

Elvis Co.Writer of 3 Never knew of song until recorded.

Co. Writers Axton & Durden GAVE Elvis Co.Writer ( So Third of Royalties)

If he recorded it as First song for RCA.

So I know Gene was not type to Copy anyone....

They could hardly Sue Him /// When Elvis never Co Wrote It Either

Ha Ha Would be thrown out of Court .

Difficult Sue for something you did not write.

    Cheers 3am in UK

  • Interesting side note: I was ten years old when the Beatles hit the USA and I like everyone else loved them. You know, at ten years old I didn't even know who the hell Chuck Berry was till I heard the Beatles (w/ George harrison's great vocals) cover it. . I looked at the song writing credits on the 45 rpm record and was shocked that lennon & mcCartney did not write it. It took the Brits for me to discover Chuck Berry....LOL

  • @inkey2 Lol, made me smile. :) Such brilliant talent back then, and I had to be born 40 years too late! Unbelievable lol.

  • Hi Again Inkey2 One of the strangest things I find is Gene Vincent as Good & Great as He Was He NEVER had a No.1 in UK NEVER got into Top Ten UK Highest Ever Acheived was No.16 in UK Charts Amazing But True Elvis Also had 6 No.1's in US & 11 entries in US BillBoard BEFORE He had No.1 in UK All Shook Up Again amazing But True But for Certain They will Never be Forgotten Great Times & Great Artists Long Live Rock n Roll / Rockabilly Cheers Again Colin UK The Forever TeddyBoy
  • Pistol packing mama reached number 15 The Crazy times album number 12 i have vincent 45,s from the beeb with do not play on the sleeve along with Johnny Burnettes rockabilly stuff Gene was only really played on the radio after the 59 tour when his golden age passed he was far to out way for the squares at the bbc who still hate 50s, Rock and Roll on Bill Haleys 74 tour they refused to let Rockers and Teds be part of the audience on totp when Bill appeared.

  • Hi Ginger1959

    Yes quite right P/P/Mama No15 & 9 weeks in charts Summer 1960

I have clip of one introducing Eddie Cochran on Stage "Sounded Like He Was Reading the News" On stage. One Drone Sound.

Woman Love Ban started his Non Play Era

Good Job the Pirate Ships came along

Gene, RnR, Rockabily Will OutLast Them All

  • Sorry inkey2 .I have been listening to these great songs h/hotet and baby blue for 50 years or more and although as 1950steddyboy has said they are similiar. I have never thought of baby blue being a rip off of h/hotel.

  • @old65rocker : i guess when you are speaking about this era and genre of music where it was basically 3 chords alot of things were somewhat or slightly similar

  • Indeed,

  • My my I'm so glad us old people can enjoy such a riveting performance together.

  • the flat duo jets did a cool version of this too!

  • @itarare Absolutely! People rip George Harrison for My Sweet Lord and this is even more blatant!

  • Gah I love this song. The White Stripes do an amazing cover of it!

  • @kingdomsbythesea Jack and Meg have the best taste in music!

  • The backup singer on the left is driving me WILD!!! Those are some of the coolest stage moves I've ever seen...

  • That's Tommy "Bubba" Facenda...later did a slew of "High School USA" records

  • ♥

  • classic, love it!!!

  • DjURA........This video if from the movie Hot Rod Gang..1958.

  • Wow, what a fantastic performance. What a stage presence those blue caps had!

  • great music!!

  • from which year is this song?

  • 1958

  • That's what makes YouTube so awesome....

coming across great videos like this one by Gene Vincent !

  • @dovermoreno

even better when my teenage nieces' & nephews' agree with me when i say...."this is the shit that gives you goose pimples!!

    '

  • Theres only two kinds of music. ROCK and ROLL! Rock on GENE. Thanks for the memories!

  • @2012sam LOL!!! Very good

  • this song inspired Bob Dylan to write "It's all over now Baby Blue" in 1966.

  • Mean, Moody, Magnificent, GENE VINCENT! Thanks for the memories.

  • Please help me... Whos singing this song.. something like "My baby blue huhuhu" Its from that period.. Thanks

  • jen, you are GREAT!

  • Sounds nothing like Heartbreak hotlel. Same genere though.

  • Well it sort of has the same vocal melody when he starts singing.

  • I played bass for Johnny Meeks (guitarist on left) when I was 19... he was such a master of guitar and piano. He gave we musicians great advice and lessons... but I learned the most just listening.... and trying to match his style.

  • I was named after this song! lol

  • what Pink Elephant?

  • no Bleu

  • what is the movie this is from?

  • Comment removed

  • GREAT SONG GENE!!!

  • This is cool

Look at that Pre CBS Fender Stratocaster

    PRICELESS

  • And a early Precision Bass first version (Telecaster bass)

  • If you look closely at the last five seconds, you see that Gene is glaring at Bubba (Tommy Facenda) for some reason, and Bubba seems to gesture apologetically, afterwards.

My take is that Bubba was trying too much to be in the spotlight during the performance ! ...he was bopping around and actually stood in front of Gene for a time...

  • Grady Owen is on rhythm guitar and a 15 year old Juvey Gomez on lead, replacing Dickie Harrell who had recently quit the Blue Caps.

  • Dickie 'be bop' Harrell was the drummer for the Blue Caps, not guitarist. Just to clear it up.

  • Can someone tell me the name of the guy playing the Stratocaster?

  • Guy playing the Strat' is Johnny Meeks

  • Something magic with this song, isn´t it?

  • always my favourite of Gene's

  • One of the coolest songs ever- Gene was truly the Screaming End.

  • Nice variant of Heartbreak Hotel and Hoochie coochie man.

  • brill

  • these white boys had the blues riffs down...

  • thx for posting, GV is tremendous

have you heard Bruce's brief cover of this at end of Jersey Devil video?

  • The sheer power of a simple song, but then this is Gene at his best. Truly thank you for bringing it to us

  • THEY ARE SO HOT AND THIS MUSIC TOO

  • I got a brand new lov-ah, and i lov-ah yes ah do

  • EXCELLENT MUSIC

  • stress the MUSIC part =]

  • Gene Vincent foreverrrrrrrrrr.

    Genial, simplemente...¡¡¡GENIAL!!!

  • One of the true giants of early Rock 'n Roll. His passing was a great loss. To me this is his most beautiful song.

  • Que tal sonido de la guitarra es como si sintieras una fina corriente por el cuerpo ademas el gesto de Gene Vincent es como de placer y extasis en conclusion: el video esta de la csm....

  • great stuff Gene looks like a young Mark Hughes he ranks up there with the best his 56 sessions are great rockers love it.

  • raw and real.

He ranks with the greats in RnR hisrory.

led Zepp, the stones, and the Bealtes learned it from him.

  • toooooooooooo cooooooooooooooooooooool video;

    thanks fot posting

  • Rock and Roll pioneer!!

  • THE BEST!

  • Yeah,it's the same melody as Heartbreak Hotel

,but still a coool song.Gene deserved more

    fame&fortune,than he received.He wasn't quite

    the "pretty boy"like Fabian,Frankie Avalon,

Bobby Vee,to get a push from the record company.Gene&Eddie Cochran were the REAL deal

not those Elvis wannabees.REAL R&R like Elvis,

    Chuck,Jerry Lee,Fats,Buddy,Little Richard,

Phil&Don,Ricky,Carl&Roy!!Gene& Eddie were right there baby!!!

  • well said mate, watched hot rod gang recently, he was a talent alright,he use to come out behind the black curtains on stage, first a glove leather would pop out, then other leather wearing items he had on, bit by bit, quite a showman and it drove the crowd wild for more,he never did stray from RNROLL, stayed true to his roots,a real Rocker in every scence !!R.I.P Gene

  • Stefijo, just enjoy the music and try NOT to pull the RACE card every 2 seconds, OK???

  • Géniale cette vidéo !

  • Classic.

  • Does anyone agree that the Blue Caps just arent the same after Cliff Gallup left the band?

  • What nonsensical musicology you espouse.

  • you moron its from the 50s

  • Yeah, it;s got a similarity, don;t know if it;s stolen or whether it;s simply inspried by though

  • Like the song, but, it starts out sounding suspiciously like Heartbreak Hotel.

  • It's in the same key as Heartbreak Hotel.

  • WOW.

  • Thank you for your wonderful reply :)

  • Man like Wauuw -

  • Enough already.

  • Awesome. But it's the most strange performance I have seen. These guys in their early tventies, old ladies and behind a lot of couples dancing. Cliff Gallup was really GREAT but he's not here. He was more of a Chet Atkins guy. Rocknroll rules

  • ...because this is a rip from the movie Hot Rod Gang

  • 1:27 ahha!!!

    ok LOVE THIS!

yes this is the beatles' inspiration! I can see why... or should I say HEAR...

ok lame I know. BUT THIS IS REALLT GOOD THX!

  • It's a trip seeing the late great Paul Peek (to the right of Gene). When I was in the USMC, we used to got to Jacksonville to see Paul Peek and the Peekaboos. That was back around 1962. He put alot into those few minutes he had on camera! Great guy too.

  • The guitarist is Johnny Meeks; he's less country more R&R than Gallup. Those "clapper boys" are amazing. Somebody should reissue the EP "Hot Rod Gang" with its great cover and four great songs.

  • Awesome!!!!!

  • Hello Saw gene 45 years ago at colston hall bristol. He sang between the seats. He could not sing on the stage due to equity union rules. He was fabulous. And was limping from the accident.

  • Let's Rock! Rip Gene

  • This is where the Beatles found their first inspiration.

Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Isley Bros, the Everly's, and..

    Sweet Gene Vincent (Ian Dury+)

  • Very Very Very NICE >>> Thank You Much...

  • Thank you for posting this video. We made it the vintage Rock and Roll video pick of the week here at Rock-it Radio. Thank you again for preserving Rock and Roll History.

    Bennie Dingo

    Rock-it Radio

    rockitradio dot net

  • thanks rock it radio :)

    Lee-Loo

  • This is my favourite Gene Vincent song, and believe it when I say it had a lot of competition. What a voice, and what a stage presence. RIP Gene, you are missed.

  • I'm gonna marry Gene when I get to heaven.

  • Hi !

This is one of my favourite Gene Vincent's songs. Thanks for posting it. Is that Cliff Gallup on guitar ?

  • That isn't cliff gallup. He was with the band for less than a year around 1956...the blue caps had at least 2 more guitar players since Cliff..none of them anywhere near the magic of Gallup.

  • Sorry Typo in last post

For First reference to u k read

    US of A

    Cliff Gallup rules OK

  • Gallp rules..but that isn't him I'm afraid.

  • This song is better than stairway to heaven or any of that british bullshit. Good all american rock and roll. This is where it all started. IN The US of A. WHy isn't this guy on a stamp!?

  • hey but Gene Vincent was not appreciated in the uk post '57 and had to come to the UK where he was lauded and influenced the beatles and many others !!

I dont think a country that gave us Fabian Bobby Vee Frankie Avalon Pat Boone can throw stones in a glass house!!!
