The plots(and the dialogue) in these 1950's movies haven't aged very well but the music certainly has. Danny and the Juniors got it right when they sang, "Rock and Roll Will Never Die", and YouTube is doing it's part to make sure that that prediction comes true.
Best ever. Did anyone else see him doing this in Boy Meets Girl on UK TV in 1960? Limped on from the darkest of dark bouckgrounds draggin that leg. Unforgettable.
Did you ever notice how in high school movies of this vintage the actors were never teen agers; they were always like 35. And no, it's not just the styles.
gene vincent is one of the best artists ever and hes s little known so it is are job to show are friends the wonder that is geene. rip gene thank you for changing my life
This is good you can hear the blues in it better than elvis ripp off thank god for the afro American and their music and dancing they tort us all how to do it we coppied them how to be cool and do this like that thanks.
This song is cool, but I don't remember hearing it here on the radio, ever. Gene was known for Be Bop a Lulu, thats all. These guys definetly fit the description of godd looking punks, I kidd you not, punks. Their also dressed sharp, the tight black pants, white socks..which were meant to be seen, the collar up on the shirt/jacket(a must) and those hairdews(waterfalls & ducktails). We didn't see too too many punks or greasers in our highschool, more greasers however. Thx4 postin'
the 17th of April is the 50th Anniversary of the car crash that killed Genes best friend Eddie Cochran and injured Gene remember and play their music forever and a day.
The guitar players on Lotta loving are Johnny Meeks lead Buck Owens Rhythm and Bobby Jones bass The one and only Cliff had left after the october 56 session Lotta loving is June 57.
ya know players like Eric Clapton can fly all over the neck of a guitar like lightning but that style just does nothing for me......I've grown to love the primitive sound of just old raw rock....a vintage fender guitar through a roaring hot "tube amplifier" with plenty of spring reverb....I just love that low down sound
Elvis had Gene vincent on his jukebox Heartbreak hotel came first what is is with this rip off thing just listen to a great record that was not a hit.
to 1950sTeddyboy: Thanks for the info....just curious....did any copyright litigation ever come of this......like the way George Harrison got sued for My Sweet Lord. Many times things like this were settled out of court and no one ever knew.
Interesting side note: I was ten years old when the Beatles hit the USA and I like everyone else loved them. You know, at ten years old I didn't even know who the hell Chuck Berry was till I heard the Beatles (w/ George harrison's great vocals) cover it. . I looked at the song writing credits on the 45 rpm record and was shocked that lennon & mcCartney did not write it. It took the Brits for me to discover Chuck Berry....LOL
Hi Again Inkey2 One of the strangest things I find is Gene Vincent as Good & Great as He Was He NEVER had a No.1 in UK NEVER got into Top Ten UK Highest Ever Acheived was No.16 in UK Charts Amazing But True Elvis Also had 6 No.1's in US & 11 entries in US BillBoard BEFORE He had No.1 in UK All Shook Up Again amazing But True But for Certain They will Never be Forgotten Great Times & Great Artists Long Live Rock n Roll / Rockabilly Cheers Again Colin UK The Forever TeddyBoy
Pistol packing mama reached number 15 The Crazy times album number 12 i have vincent 45,s from the beeb with do not play on the sleeve along with Johnny Burnettes rockabilly stuff Gene was only really played on the radio after the 59 tour when his golden age passed he was far to out way for the squares at the bbc who still hate 50s, Rock and Roll on Bill Haleys 74 tour they refused to let Rockers and Teds be part of the audience on totp when Bill appeared.
Sorry inkey2 .I have been listening to these great songs h/hotet and baby blue for 50 years or more and although as 1950steddyboy has said they are similiar. I have never thought of baby blue being a rip off of h/hotel.
@old65rocker : i guess when you are speaking about this era and genre of music where it was basically 3 chords alot of things were somewhat or slightly similar
I played bass for Johnny Meeks (guitarist on left) when I was 19... he was such a master of guitar and piano. He gave we musicians great advice and lessons... but I learned the most just listening.... and trying to match his style.
If you look closely at the last five seconds, you see that Gene is glaring at Bubba (Tommy Facenda) for some reason, and Bubba seems to gesture apologetically, afterwards.
My take is that Bubba was trying too much to be in the spotlight during the performance ! ...he was bopping around and actually stood in front of Gene for a time...
as long as there are lips to be kissed love will never die or say bye as my eye will all ways blink and wink wink .skate over lips with lip stick to slide my lips against and steal a kiss for it is not a crime
Que tal sonido de la guitarra es como si sintieras una fina corriente por el cuerpo ademas el gesto de Gene Vincent es como de placer y extasis en conclusion: el video esta de la csm....
well said mate, watched hot rod gang recently, he was a talent alright,he use to come out behind the black curtains on stage, first a glove leather would pop out, then other leather wearing items he had on, bit by bit, quite a showman and it drove the crowd wild for more,he never did stray from RNROLL, stayed true to his roots,a real Rocker in every scence !!R.I.P Gene
Awesome. But it's the most strange performance I have seen. These guys in their early tventies, old ladies and behind a lot of couples dancing. Cliff Gallup was really GREAT but he's not here. He was more of a Chet Atkins guy. Rocknroll rules

This is my favourite Gene Vincent song, and believe it when I say it had a lot of competition. What a voice, and what a stage presence. RIP Gene, you are missed.
That isn't cliff gallup. He was with the band for less than a year around 1956...the blue caps had at least 2 more guitar players since Cliff..none of them anywhere near the magic of Gallup.
This song is better than stairway to heaven or any of that british bullshit. Good all american rock and roll. This is where it all started. IN The US of A. WHy isn't this guy on a stamp!?
hey but Gene Vincent was not appreciated in the uk post '57 and had to come to the UK where he was lauded and influenced the beatles and many others !!
I dont think a country that gave us Fabian Bobby Vee Frankie Avalon Pat Boone can throw stones in a glass house!!!

Reply to being ripped off many Rock n Roll / Rockabilly sound similar.
I am great Fan of Gene Vincent ; Elvis ; Big O and many more.
This has smilarities to H/Hotel but thats all,
In Video one on left viewing looses his cap & comes up with a Bit of Elvis type movement. This probably down to Film Studio wants.
As to Your Question H/Hotel 1956 & Baby Blue 1958 full 2 years later.
But what does it matter NONE of the Great Stars will ever be replaced.

This is my favourite Gene Vincent song, and believe it when I say it had a lot of competition. What a voice, and what a stage presence. RIP Gene, you are missed.

Hi !
This is one of my favourite Gene Vincent's songs. Thanks for posting it. Is that Cliff Gallup on guitar ?
CarlosReus 4 years ago
