It was originally put out months before the 04 eloection and your most "current" one was put out months before the 06 election. Imagine that falsifiying numbers right before elections. The Lancet report has been criticized and disproved since the first one came out. By American, British, and even Iraqi scholars and scientists. In fact the report says that "somewhere" between 392,979 -- 942,636 deaths occured between March 18, 2003, and June, 2006 why not just say a million people died? If accurate, these figures would imply the death of an average 500 people per day, or 2.5% of Iraq's population. AND THATS WHY YOUR A LIBERAL PARROT.

Rohmaan- you make a good point, but maybe Iraq is not not the best comparison, because civilian deaths there are staggering. It is true though that worldwide, road fatalities and smoking to an even greater extent kill many more people than war. In the UK, about the same number of people die on our roads annually than the toll from the Northern Ireland Troubles over thirty years. I think war makes more headlines because it is so-directly human caused.

A problem with defining fatality statistics in Iraq is that bodies are removed often before they can be counted. There may also be confusion with 'normal' deaths such as accidents and old age. There is also the problem of political motivation. Sources supporting the war may downplay statistics, sources against the war may overstate them. None of us can know for certain either way; The closest figure is probably the one that is half way between the highest and lowest figures.
