I watched alot of slasher movies as a kid but only "Alien" really made me afraid of the dark, then I saw "It" and I was afraid of Clowns (still am). The storyline of "The Usual Suspects" really impressed and finally the anime classic "Akira" redefined the very concept of animation to me....... I've watched it endlessly and it it still feels fresh.

Dark City was an absolute trip and a great work of art. Also The Fellowship of the Rings changed my whole outlook about the fairy tale adventure genre.

The Matrix introduced the whole slow-mo bullet time thing and made black the new pink. 300 made movies into an artform. The 40 year-old Virgin started the whole adult sex comedy movies while American Pie 1 gave us the teen sex comedy. The Dark Knight raised the bar for all the comic book (maybe the whole action genre) movies. Bourne series for the novel-to-movie movies (hate LotR and HP)
