Let me finalise this, kakashi dies but not from Pain shooting the nail at him, but from using the last of his chakra via his mangyekou sharingan to save choji. Naruto talks to pain about Jiraiyas wish of world peace, Pain is convinced and brings everyone that he killed back to life, and yes including our beloved Kakashi Sensei...

When I saw this the first time I knew he didn't was permanently killed off. The whole moments just didn't feel epic enough for an extremely popular character like Kekashi. Compare it to Hinata's death(even though she survived) or Jiraya's. Now that's truly epic.
