A couple of years ago, a Dick Dale merch item was a badge with "I'M A DICKHEAD" on it. So at least he's got a sense of humour.

Apart from that Link Wray can sound twice as loud on half the volume - which, needless to say, is still louder than anything this side of a bomb explosion :-)

That doesn't mean that he'd like this version though, but he'd like the idea of Dick playing his songs. Besides, I can't help thinking: Dick Dale covered Link Wray songs, Link Wray never played Dick Dale songs - he didn't need to :-)

Met him last night in Nashville where he will be inducted into the International Musician's Hall of Fame tonight. He was as nice as he could be.

Talked to me at length and signed a photo. Told me he saw Hendrix in the mid 60s when Jimi was playing with Little Richard and Jimi asked him guitar technique questions. Dick has had some serious health issues which he still battles with. I told him it was a thrill to hear him live and I was glad he was still with us.

I remember seeing this guy at Harlows's in Sacramento in 1999. Unfortunately, he was a complete prick--arrogant, rude, and blowing EVERYONE off EXCEPT for two better-than average looking girls that were doing the groupie thing.His skin-tight stone-wash jeans sqeezing his gut out were killing! True, he is an icon of sorts for his time, but what his name fits him perfectly: DICK! Besides, so many other guitarists of his era kick his ass (think Scotty Moore,Roy Clark,Link) they were/are nice guys.

i do think he is a nice guy, but yes a little arrogant i can tell. he talks about himself in the third person which i can't stand coming from anyone. i am huge fan of him, don't get me wrong, but he just isn't THAT big, unfortunately. ask an average person who he is and i doubt they'll know who, and if they do they'll most likely say, "oh the guy who does the song from Pulp Fiction" or "yeah he did Misirlou".

@linzey8me dick dale is a piece of crap with 1 good song. sorry you had a bad experience. i actually got to meet link wray in santa cruz. he was the nicest guy on the planet. my buddy was playing in the band opening up for him so he (link) agreed to meet me. i was scared that he might be a total asshole. he ended up talking for hours about all kinds of cool stuff then he invited me to his show at the brickworks in chico. put me on the guest list and everything. nicest guy on planet R.I.P.
