  • this is the wrong story!!! and the man's acting sucks

  • so great!!!

  • @MatterEngineer: Indians r spoiling Buddhism! That's wat they all wanted! Indians swept Buddhism to spread Hinduism! The true Buddhism is protected only in Sri Lanka

  • @sunethchat as far as anyone knows, hinduism and buddhism coincide with each other and come from similar backgrounds although they are very different in terms of their teachings. but it's absolutely detestable when one downs a religion using another religion. i also dislike how you put a specific section of buddhism as being superior, it hurts my heart thinking that people can violate a great religion such as buddhism like this.

  • This movie doesn't look very good in my opinion. From this trailer, it seems as if the movie doesn't do the book justice. First of all, terrible acting. Second, it seems...a little rushed. It's hard to explain but in the book it's playing out his entire life, and this seems too quick. Lastly, This really has like no emotion , at all, and the actors don't really fit the role. But this is just my opinion.

  • i know right siddhartha gets mad girls

    \

  • dude he was fuckign the shit out of her

  • dude he was fuckign the shit out of her

  • I've read this book for a college English course, and I love it~ It describes the journey that everyone of us will go through...Wish everyone will become Buddha before they leave this world~

  • I haven't read the book,but as a Buddhist I loved the movie.

  • I can think, I can wait, I can fast. The success key.

  • the book is better in my imagination than the movie

  • Osamu Tezuka's Manga of Buddha is the best story of Buddhas-Siddhartha's life

  • @neotokyomedia I agree. Osamu's version did it really well, even in the fictional parts. In this movie it really didn't show the time correctly, I felt.

  • Comment removed

  • @neotokyomedia This is not about the life of the Buddha,Siddhartha Gautama ...this is about a fictional character created by Hermann Hesse :)

  • is this film anything like the book?

  • this trailer looks as if it does the novel no justice.

  • First of all, Germann Hesse is not a mystic person, this is a view from the occident. I read the book and It was great. I will see the movie too

  • siddhartha is big in India & Asia!

  • @vtsernikov - watch the movie - it's great!!!! One of my all time favs

  • i red the book and i'm afraid of watching the movie

  • @vtsernikov the movie is a disaster.

  • té que enfim uma visão em que o caminho para a iluminação não põe de parte o amor!

    At last!

  • I enjoyed the book a lot, and i thnk i will like the movie, but i dont think this trailer does it justice lol ^^

  • One of my favorite movies, now I have to read the book.

  • Reading the book right now for English. I would love it if it didnt have all that wording. You know what I mean; 20 words in one sentence when you could say iit in five. I'm finished with part 1 of the book.

  • I love the book!

  • I read the Book from Siddhartha. This is so wonderful. Nice regards from Austria

  • Isn't Siddhartha supposed to be a calm individual?

  • who knows the song between 0:17 - 0:25?

  • weirdest book ever.

  • will be the best story ever told. if Clint Eastwood give it a go

  • I don't see how a book with such little need for plot due to incredible monologues of thought that can't be communicating in physical fom.

Showing Siddartha grow anger in that argument with kamaswami seems wrong due to sids perpetual calm nature being what frustrated him

  • @TSMChampion If you really want to know why Rooks came to Asia, you should watch the video “Extra do Filme "Siddhartha" (Entrevista com o Diretor "Conrad Rooks") [1/3]” and you would find out that he did not come to track his roots :)

  • @TSMChampion ...No he identified so well with the book that he decided to make a movie about his own race, he was born in a America with an Asian heart and need to find his roots and past” because humanity first began in Africa ,from there, groups migrated to other parts of the world .

  • @TSMChampion Friend, you don't have to have an Asian heart to like a book like Siddhartha and make a movie like this..a spiritual heart is what you need. There are rascals in Asia as well as in America, every county has its shear of rascals as well as saints .Btw,if you have studied Ancient World History you would be saying things like “

  • @GentlemanGhost1 would not be*

  • @TSMChampion and I don't think Conrad Rook's lived most of his life in Asia because he talks about going to India for the first time with his first wife, after reading the book Siddhartha as a young guy….

  • going to India from the U.S

  • @TSMChampion Mate, sometimes the greatest ting you can do is to admit that you are wrong when you are wrong, I ask you to do so before you prove to all that you are a fool of the first order. TSMChampion, anyone who is born in America is an American nor matter where their parents are from (even a south Asian born the U.S is an American)

  • @GentlemanGhost1 in the U.S*

  • @TSMChampion Don’t be so idiotic mate, the original was directed by an American

  • i am reading this book for my english summer assignment. it is soo freakin boring.

  • @weremclovin4real same here....

  • So were reading this book in reading class and I understand it completely but this book is so boring.

  • @TSMChampion Sorry but I don't think there's a need for you to be this rude. It was just a personal suggestion. I'm not american and neither am I a fan of Spiderman and such stuff. I have read the book, I myself do a lot of art, and what you just said was just full of assumption and disrespect. Also, there are good art films produced nowadays. Just because it's a modern movie doesn't mean it's gonna be bad. You can't judge people and judge things just like that.

  • @xxxscenes Good reply mate, I like the original but just like you I too think it needs a remake that would fit the modern generation

  • Why do they speak English?? They shoulds speak in Hindi and subtitle it in other languages. Btw Im not Indian, but it would be better if they made the movie more natural and Indian

  • I don't know about you guys, but I thought this was quite funny.

  • No way could this live up to the novel.

  • the movie jumps a lot of details, the book is better

  • well, they tried. hey, it is not easy to play the Buddha! anyway, Kamala was really hot in the movie. I'd see it again just to dig on her fine naked bod - not exactly the intent of the author, but ...... How to play an enlightened being when you don't have the Inner Experience - that is a tough one. anyway, back to Kamala - hot, HOT! ! ! !! !

  • where can I get soundtrack of this movie?

  • You really have to be in the right mood, right place, right time (of life?) to appreciate the novel.

  • i hope someone will do a remake of this movie

  • I think we've seen enough remakes these days. This adaptation is classic, and I personally think it should stay as the only Siddhartha movie. Damned remakes.

  • I totally am in agreement with you on this. Even if they WERE to do a remake of "Siddhartha", I think the current Consciousness of our youth lacks the readiness, patience and understanding to appreciate such a feat. I mean seriously...would YOU really want Kal Penn playing the character of Siddharta?? Hmmm...although Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan MIGHT be able to pull it off successfully!

  • Did one in Argentina a few years ago... In Spanish, of course.

  • @xxxscenes agreed.

  • hahahahaha

  • Background. I've meditated (although without chanting) in a temple. I can quote the four noble truths.I value internal reflection and can see the importance of bringing forth one's true being into the world with compassion.

Application here. From what I know of Siddhartha's story, one key was the suffering he saw when he left the palace. Rather disappointing that its not here. It may not even be in the movie. Rare that I watch movies nowadays anyway. I won't be going to see this one in a hurry.

  • I never really got why of all of Hesse's novels, Siddartha was so widely received. Because it was an easy read perhaps? In any event, this trailer left me cold. Disappointing.

  • The book was an interesting and change-inducing novel when I was 18, but some maybe get a little too carried away with getting enlightened and all that. All in all, if choosing between movies instead of thinking about reading a book, I'd rather look at samples from "Kung Fu" than watch the movie "Siddhartha."

  • @assadd1

Well some will let go of their sack full of potatoes due to its weight and contend in bring home only one.

    this metaphor sounds familiar friend?

  • Yes, I think the producers of this film should get several sack of rice for trying, and do it over again some day, so it catches some of the wave-bending contained in the novel, which among other things, was a relatively easy read.

  • Pather Klanti Bhule ...ei gaan ta shrodhyo Hemanta babu geyechilen....Movie r naam ta chilo....MARU THIRTHO HINGLAJ....AND ....O NODIRE EKTI KOTHA ...ALSO.... apni bhul info deben ta please.....eita anurodh.......

  • As a practicing Buddhist I liked the book okay, but I don't understand why people have latched onto it as they have. I've met so many people who say it is the greatest book, deep, life-changing... they act like they've reached Enlightenment simply because they've read this story. And then they don't bother to look any further for the fundamental truths of existence. It's a good book - that doesn't mean it has all the answers.

The movie looks fine to me. Is that Shashi Kapoor?

  • Let them find their own way. The book's a start.

  • what? you are rude. You could have said it nicely. But your bad attitude is the reason hate begins in the world. However, I shall simply ignore you and act as if you never existed.

  • The myth is once you've read this book with your signaficant other the seeds of love begin to grow.

  • I don't like this trailer, and I think if I even saw the movie it would ruin the tone of the book. Movies tend to do that. =(

  • you are right. even when i have seen the movie (at least 22 years before) and now when i read the book...it spoil the entire tempo and the ambieance

  • well, i read siddhartha, and it was and excelent book, but the movie,,, puff , nothing compared with the book, maybe because the most amazing thing was that it has very phylosofic poems beetween its dialogues.

I dont understand whyholywood aren't creative and make their own stories, instead of just making dapations of exelent books

  • siddhartha was a awesome book but this trailer almost ruined it for me

  • is this the same character as the monk?

  • im doing an essay on this right now...

    and youtube is distracting me.

    while eating crispy noodles...

  • This is an adaptation of Herman Hesse's novel 'Siddhartha

  • can i find the song on 0:20 or 0:43 ??

  • Maybe you want to listen to this beautiful song on youtube " Imee ooi metta song in Pali English"

  • this movie version looks awful!

  • i thought this was such a great book

  • ''I can think, I can Wait, I can fast...''

  • That's a pretty emo depiction of Siddhartha; he should be empty like Dexter Morgan.

  • Wasn't Buddha a man before he was a god?

    Like Jesus? Like Mohamaed? Allah?

    Just wondering....

  • buddha was never a god he was a founder, buddhism has no gods just guidance...

  • yes it does, people worship buddha just like a god. In many asian culture, buddha is the symbol of god.

  • Allah was never a man ..... try 2 undrstnd more abt Islam then speak .... Allah is an eternal power Who had created this whole universe

  • How can I understand without asking and speaking?, please try to be more tolerant of questions of those not knowing all the wisdom you hold. All gods have been created by men is my understanding. We are all one race and family of human beings. Peace and Love Brother

  • i did n't mean 2 hurt U .... well acoding 2 a muslimz faith u r wrong Allah has created us not v r the creatorz .... & u r rite v r one race v all r sons & daughterz of Adam & Eve .... i think may b i was wrong in writing but i really did n't mean to hurt U ... im soo soory if i hurt U beleive me it was unintentional

  • No one was hurt here, and I never mentioned Adam and Eve either, Don't assume so much. I know there is a power greater than man in the universe, I also believe mans mind is to small to comprehend it all. Siddartha / Budda was/is one of the ways to begin understanding the great mystery. As I believe Allah, Jesus, all popular religions are. I just don't think there is only one way to know the greatness/beauty of life.

    Peace to you

  • your way to ignorant to bash on buddhism. if you didn't know buddha's full name was siddhartha Gautama

  • who is bashing who?

  • which siddhartha r u talking about, gautam siddhartha was a prince and got married and even had a son, so yes he did have sex, plus he was a prince he also had sex with other courtasians. i am talking about buddha, this story is a fiction not a real life story of buddha

  • wow i didnt know buddha had sex before! is this true?

  • The novel is not about Buddha...

It's about a fictional character and his jorney to find Self.

Though he does meet Buddha, but rejects his teachings.

  • yes, his father promoted him to enjoy himself and gave him women for fun because he didnt want his son to become a monk. but in the end siddhartha found it was all empty.

  • You got the wrong siddhartha, his father was apriest who wanted siddhartha to stay and become a brahmin (a priest). Get your facts straight.

  • It has past many years since I read Siddhartha, but still I can remember how fascinating that book was. I think that Siddhartha is the best work by Herman Hesse.

  • I don't have any money honey, I'm here to take sex ed. XD

  • I just finished reading the book, like, not even a minute ago, for Humanities. XD

  • Can anyone tell me what happened to the director. Here it said filmed my a "brilliant" director. I have seen the movie, but to me the film could be done even better, but this was back in 1972. I have read the book twice already. I also suggest to read "A journey to the East" by Harmen Hassee.

  • Im just now starting to read the book it looks rather interesting.

  • Siddharta has made good experiences. compare it with the 40th sec in this video

  • timeless story. movie seems like a joke compared to the book.

  • why a joke? (I havent'seen a movie ).

  • why a joke? (I havent'seen a movie ).

  • the whole time i was reading it i pictured govinda as the guy on anger management that bullied adam sandler as a kid an fights him in the monestary because jack nicholson said that he raped his phsyco sister. i wrote the comment below.

  • dude i just finished reading the book 5 minutes ago. i had to read it for a summer reading project.

  • LOL! Cool dude!

  • most of you say: I read the book. But none of the comments shows that you really understood the message of the book. Oviously, it needs some buddhist background, as Hesse studied Buddhism before writing the book.

  • Kamala is exactly how I picture.

  • pictured her.*

  • The book was a amazing. But its hard to get a visual

  • For that you must go to India.

  • yes, I think so either

  • To all you literary experts out there how are candide and siddartha similar and differnt?

  • Movie seems lame.

The Book really is awesome, but i cant stand that indian way of speaking english. reminds me of bollywood, so i couldnt take that movie serious.

  • how tolerant of you.

  • Great book

  • Great book

  • he is probably mental or something.

  • OH NO! worst book ever, and now a movie? Some say its sublime, but to me that means it just went from being solid to just a bunch of gas! har-har...

  • Then it's clear you didn't understand the message at all. I mean, to say it's the worst book ever, worse than Paris Hilton memories...obviously u didn't get it.

  • oh? I didn't understand the message... perhaps you could enlighten me then? I'm just an ignorant, self-absorbed materialistic philistine wandering aimlessly through my onerous existence; please, reveal to me this profound philosophical truism lying right beneath my nose which my artless and petty mind fails to recognize or comprehend...

  • I didn't mean it was the cosmic book of wisdom for the Chosen Ones,I'm just saying it's an exaggeration to say it's the worst book and a bunch of gas.

  • I'm just saying don't assume I didn't understand just because I didn't like.

  • We can't expect everyone to have the same spiritual understanding. Everyone is at different levels. Accept this.

  • I'm reading the book now for a my philosophy (human values) class, and it indeed is enjoyable and very interesting. I am considering in watching the film too.

  • im reading this book right now. its awesome. hesse's use of poetry is beautiful. im so into it.

  • siddhartha is a wonderful book !! i read the german version

  • I have to read this book for school. I didn't know there was a movie on it though. The books pretty boring...then again I think all books are boring.

  • I think you just haven't read the right books :)

  • Hence the name DigitalGamerX..

  • "you will go tired" "will i go tired?"

"you will die" "will i die?"

    mistranslation...

"you will get tired" "i wont get tired"

"you will die" "i will die"

  • One of my favorite books. I finished it for the 4th time last night. Never seen the movie.

  • just read the whole book today it was alright.

But the whole idea of you are god as everything is god no thanks, though I can connect very well with his life ethics and morals.

Next book, 48 laws of power~

  • "the whole idea of you are god as everything is god no thanks" -you have missed the whole point of the story. Hess is not for everyone anyway but I would suggest you read Siddhartha again with an open mind

  • got this movie from my local library...good message within the movie, humbling.

  • u read the book?

  • Actually now that you brought it up, this will be one of the book I read this winter.

  • i havent seen the movie but the book is awesome, i highly recommended. and it is can connect to your life a lot (i did to mine) am re-reading it now.

  • I am guessing it's in the theme of; giving up all material attachment vs. persuing them? Kind of a yogis mental state vs. seek and conquer mentally? I will read it in any case for those antidotes/proverbal quotes that really hits the spot and makes you stop and consider a lot of things. Thanks for the tip.

  • close but no... you will find out
