  • As the others have been mentioning - not only are you covering two songs that I really like, but your voice is pretty incredible (dude here) - what an amazing job! Yet another bravo. Love the strumming - any tips on learning good patterns? I don't think I can do what you do with your thumb =P

  • I'll pay you to come sing me to sleep every night ;)

  • nice Job ^^

  • this is the biggest help thanks man

  • Anyone know where I can find this kind of continuous fingerpicking style, I see it in a lot of songs, but I can't really find it on the net anywheres.

  • hey. in case you didn't know. I thought it should be brought to your attention that I'm totally legal now. hahahaha xD

    joking of course.

well I'm not, but I am.

    ..

    if you understand?

anyways, all of that was said so that you knew just how marvelous you are at what you do. And how much I admire you for it. So keep up the good work? as lame as that is to say. and also, you make me laugh. "the one with which you flick people off" haha very nice.

  • this was so great

  • thanks dude! love both these songs and no one can tell me how to play 'em!

  • has anyone figured out the fingering pattern.. i cant figure it.. :(

  • people join his facebook fan page..."we love dan hardin"

  • Doesn't sound like a standard tuning isn't it ?

  • I'm pretty sure he's using a classical guitar, not acoustic, and for a classical guitar, yeah, i think it's in standard

  • He mentions in the video that he is tuned down a half step, so his C is a B and his F a G#, etc.) If he capoed on the first fret, his guitar would be in tune with a standard EADGBE tuned guitar.

Daniel: Great job. I flat pick it, but it loses a lot of the flourishes that you are able to give it.

  • You are amazing... I loved

  • Comment removed

  • hi...it's great...i can't see how you play the single chords in romeo&juliet...could you tell me the sequence??? please you or someone else

  • What a chill guy! Love this video!

  • That was Awesome!! What is the picking pattern for Romeo and Juliet? Do you have tabs?

  • haha, for me that was cute...

  • No offense to this guy but why say he does better then modest mouse when they came up with the fucking song

  • because he took a song and made it better..softer, more relaxing and enjoyable the original is no where near always the best!

  • maybe he did. maybe he didn't. opinion of music is never absolute

  • love the vid. you should teach. you got a great laid back attitude.

    thanks.

  • Awesome job! I love that song and i have to say you did better than modest mouse. I'm having a lot of trouble with the picking part at the end. Great cover.

  • Could you please tab out the individual notes part in Float On? It's just a little tough to see what you're playing.

Please? I'm sure that we would all appreciate it.

  • hi reely gd video but cud u do another 1 with a close up of ur right hand?

  • OMG ARE U THE GUY THAT PLAYED THE OTHER FLOAT ON!?!? haha big fan :D

  • It feels good, doesn't it?

  • I don't get what your right hand is doing on romeo and juliet...but anyway, that sounds pretty nice ! :)

  • Thanks so much for this. Really, really helpful.

(Now, if only I had that same mellow voice!)

  • You should really explain where to pick for the lick after the strumming

  • being australian i appreciate a modest attitude.you did a far better job of that than you think though, very nice

  • i luv it

  • really awesome job bro. you explain it pretty well and that is one of the better MM covers ive heard. nice voice on romeo and juliet too! kudos to you man

  • hey thanks. (:

  • this really is my favorite acoustic cover of float on. ive been trying to play it for a while now and i still cant match your picking pattern. any tabs for it? thanks, i would really like to be able to play it as well as you do.

  • shit

  • Hey man this is great... helped a lot. 1000x ThanX

  • at first i was like, ok who is this guy ... then i kept watching and smiled and even went "omg". thanks.

  • heheh, you re good dude ;)

  • Awesome, thanks so much. Your a good teacher tbh, finally a normal person lol.

  • Wow this was awesome.

    Great lesson!

    Great guitar playing!

    Great singing!

  • hahaha!

so all you see is just the guitar..... and my crotch

  • at first i was skeptical about this video because you're not playing float on the way modest mouse does, but it sounds great as an acoustic version and you're voice is excellent. great work.

  • Man, your awsome. Keep up the good work!

  • Great playing, you sing really good as well!

I`ll try to learn both songs as soon as possible

  • Great playing!

I would love the tab for Romeo and juliet played like this!!! It's so good but I can't figure out the right hand!

If anyone can help i'd be very grateful.

  • Dude!! I've gotta say, I used to play it based on MK's arrangement... but never thought playing it with 1/2 step down tuning will come out so neat :-)... Just can't stop playing like this...

    Thanks a lot for sharing!!!

  • AMAZING!

  • i wish i could play like that..

  • wow.

  • lol.. I clicked this video so I could learn how to play these two songs, but I just loved hearing you play them all over again.

  • Great! But I really can't catch you right hand pattern!! What is it ?

  • thanks!

  • Well, I tried to play Float On, I even have my guitar right here it's just that you can't see it, and it turned out so wrong that it doesn't resemble anything to Float On. Thanks by the way because now I just made up something cool after watching your video! Keep it up!

  • I loved the version of float on :)

  • i know romeo and juliet form dire straits, but who sings this version ?

  • does anyone know his guitar tuning? in doesen't seam standard tuning...

  • It's standard tuning, just a half-step down.

  • Being tuned down half a step means that it's not in standard tuning, dude.

  • What a Beautiful Voice !

  • He sounds like a happier Gary Jules =-]

  • AMAZING !

  • ye please email me the which strings t pluck in order

  • hi in o the chords for romeo and juliet but i dont which order to strum which string in, if you no what i mean? which order do you strum the sings in.

    :D

  • thanks very much. i'll keep it up.

  • haha "I don't know what I'm doing"

Really like your fingerpicking, great style there. Would love to see you do a remake on josé gonsalez - Heartbeats, that song has kinda the same style of fingerpicking as you've got on romeo and juliet =)

  • great Romeo and Juliet, great version!!

  • THANKS! sounds great, really instructive, 2 great songs and you give them your own personal touch. this is why i go on youtube

  • ahh i love the way you played both these songs, exactly what i was looking for. nice voice btw, lmao the camrea setting is very... its diferen't :]

    (keep going!!!)

  • nice version bro..like it

  • how are you picking the strings on this song?

  • with my fingers. thumb for the bass strings.

  • watch his hands he's not really picking anything, just practice controlling you strum

  • exactly. what he said.

  • your freaking awsome i think [; keep up the good work :D

  • nice crotch

  • How do you strum and pick at the same time!?@_@

  • I also leanred another way of playing it whic was really siopmple ur ways is also fanstastic it sounds much more i dunno poetic

and i prolly wopuldnt get ins so much in trouble i i played it like that in class.

  • can you do tutorials on all of the modest mouse songs you can play? plz. and can you show how to show how to strum it and pluck it too?

  • Hi Daniel, thanks for share the way you play Romeo and Juliet. I really want to know how to play it. Can you tell me how you do the arpeggio with the right hand? thanks a lot,

    David

  • But the way you play it in the video. It seems to be the same pattern for all the chords, would you mind writing down how you play it in the video?

  • Have you published the picking pattern anywhere?

  • no. i don't consistently play it the same way.

  • nice voice

  • haha dude you got an awesome sence of humor i freaking dropped my guitar twice lol

  • i don't think that's how they officially play float on, but that is just such an excellent way to play it acoustically. i'm gonna try to learn it your way.

  • you're right. they play it in a much higher key. i just played it there so i could sing it there.

  • totally great, awesome, spectacular, other synonyms for good. but i dont understand the finger picking its psssiing me oof/?!!!!!!13

  • really nice!! but for modest mouse do the same thing with a Capo on 6th, sounds so much better! :)

  • how many times do u go each note plz tell me!!!!!!!

  • oh and thanks for the explanation now i got how to play that stuff

  • you know more than you think the g is a 2-1 susp or a to g and you have a c in your f maj or 2nd inv you jus t dont know that you know

  • well. it sounds good what you just said. i'll have to take your word for it.

  • Man its sounds different maybe because you use new chords but with your singing its unique and near perfect

  • *laugh*

I like this. You have a lovely speaking voice, as well.

Remember: Harrison Ford got a job, while he was a carpenter; in somebody's office. *grin*

    Try ANYTHING.

    *grin*

    And have fun.

  • to play romeo n juliet you have to tune to dgdgbd check my vid hope it helps its just the intro njoy

  • Hi man, your Romeo and Juliet is fantastica, but through this video I'm not able to understand how to play! :-( have you got a tab?

let me know because it's beautiful!

    bye

  • i don't have tabs, really. it's just c-shaped chords with finger picking.

  • i can do the fingerings on chords but man my stumming is awful

  • i've got to say...amazing...really a beauuutiful song played beautifuly! Congratulations! (have u got some kind of tab on this one, is hard to see the notes you play in the video)

  • what tuning do you use?

  • just standard spanish tuning.

  • i would sign u if i were a label / company.

    u got a good voice aswell - congratz m8

  • dude you're awesome i wish i had your talent. i love the guitar but i dont have the patience to ever learn it so i really envy you for your skill, maybe if i ever decide to pick one up i'll be sure to make some notes about your index finger thing and put it into use cus yeah it a neat noise haha

  • thanks for the awesome "float on" tutorial, i picked this up quick and i just started playing guitar. :)

  • nice if only i can do that little riff part

  • wait, so what are we doing for the main riff in Float On? Cause I can't figure out what strings to pick.

  • ah. i see you found it. the main riff is sort of on the top two strings (high e and b) you just play the chords and then you play those strings on the third fret with your pinky.

  • Well done again. I dont know how advanced you are with the guitar but you play it neat and you sing very well.

  • great tutorial man, i noticed though in the actual romeo and Juliete video you did theres a different sound to your guitar, was that an electric guitar i heard as opposed to this tutorial in which it appears your using a classical nylon string? just out curiosity...other than that, thanks for the great videos you posted keep up the good work.

  • yeah, in the original video, i'm playing a fender stratocaster. but it was a huge pain to set up, so mostly i play the classical because i'm lazy.

  • awesome dud thanks 2 great songs i can now play at open mic thanks...hope to see more.

  • that's pretty much what it's all about. i'm thinking about trying out "float on" at an open mic, myself.

  • not bad for a headless torso :) Thanks for the tips here, Dan. and yeah, get yourself out of your room & down to that open mic. This is how connections are made. in addition to ''Float On'' you should throw Papa Hobo at them while you're at it. Have a great weekend, man.

  • cool man, thanks, that was great. marin co. california.

  • Thanx for that. Not that it helps me. I still don't have the F chord ringin' right and some of them I don't know but that's great. One day I know I'll try to play it ;o)

  • I only now watched the end of the video and, hahaha, i'm laughing so much. It starts around 7:52 and until the end! Thanks for this good laugh man!:))

  • thanks daniel, Romeo and juliet is gonna be the serenading for a while now, all bcos of you. Gracias , merci and thank you very much

    KEEP IT COMING DAN

  • lol fair enough then, ill give it a go, a can only try...

thanks for all thel help yeh

    Cheers

  • Awsome! thanks for this vid, it helps me alot...the only thing im having trouble with is the fingerpicking for romeo and juliet, is there a particular patern played over and over??

    Cheers man...

  • ummm. i tried to sit down and figure out an answer to that question. i'm not sure. i think the alternating bass line is the trick. the other notes just sort of come in whenever.

  • wow....I gotta try that. thankyou

  • you didn't explain the singing part! how do we sing that way?! ;)

  • no clue. it just sort of happens.
