I recommend the book "Basic Bible Interpretation" by Roy B. Zuck, if you want superb detail. The funny thing is, it's this "spiritual" interpretation that helped with the dominance of the catholic church in the first place.

All my good works, are from grace. What we disagree with is faith alone being sufficient for salvation. Also, to use the argument "its not in the bible" with a catholic is pointless. We believe sola scriptura is a heresy.
Respond to this video... With regard to interpreting scripture, yes our clergy do that. However there is a whole other personal level of scripture, where God speaks to the individual. There is a lot of scope within our faith to interpret scripture for yourself.

To share your darkest secrets, or sins with another human, knowing that they can never disclose it to anyone; to have someone hear that and not condemn you, but try to steer you in the right direction, give you some advice etc is great. If i confesssed straight to God, I'd miss out on that. It's helpful in truly repenting, which means to change. A priest can be like an accountability partner, to help you overcome patterns of sin.

@SuperChristlike The bible originally had 73 books. In the 1500s when MArtin Luther left the catholic church to start his own (man made ) religion, he removed the other books. From the year 400 onwards there was 73 books. Luther took the ones he didnt like out. The catholic bible hasnt changed since 400. we didnt add any. Luther took some out of the bible that was accepted for over 1000 years.

@SuperChristlike With regard to forgiveness of sins. I repeat (its in scripture). To the apostles, Jesus said: "for those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven". Jesus clearly gives men the authority to forgive sins on hsi behalf. Priests carry on that tradition started by the Apostles.
@xxzzxx99 With regard to calling a man father, Jesus himself did it, referring to 'Father Abraham'. As for drinkin wine, Jesus turned water into wine, so people could drink it at a celebration. The very bible that you base your christianity on was compiled by the catholic church.at the local councils of Hippo (circa 393AD) and Carthage (397AD) and Pope Innocent made it official in early 400s. There were many more books that were floating around and being used by christians as scripture, so it was necesary to put that to an end and determine which books were the true gospel.

The reason we need the term catholic is to identify it amongst other denominations. The church was no longer following everything Jesus had taught and begun making their own rules for what Christians must do to be forgiven or to gain salvation, so Luther used what he had learned from scripture to correct the church in their mistakes. The inquisition was all over Europe and it was really more of a Catholic census. In a 50 year period, there was less than 400 catholic priests convicted. In USA in 1 year, alone there are 90,000 cases of sexual abuse. Only 6% of priests who are accused are convicted. If you read John 8 1-8in its entirety (instead of quoting a line out of context) (the woman caught in adultery), you'll see how Jesus dealt with sinners, and how the pharisees did too. PAul was unmarried, and he was the greatest evangelist ever. If you read verse 32 -36, it explains why someone who is unmarried can do a lot more for God than someone who is married. the married person must be concerned about the affairs of the world and their partner. The unmarried can give their whole life and heart to God and serve him alone

So 94% of those you read about are innocent. 4% of the total number of priests were accused. So in that period there were about 100,000 priests, 384 were convicted of molesttaion charges. Apply this to the population thats at least 60 million victims in the USA. That means that the % of child molesterers is way higher in the general population compared to the priest population. So people who are not celibate are way more likely to be peodophiles than priests. Kinda shoots down your theory about priests.

@SuperChristlike Actually our priests are worship leaders.(not devil worshippers) Every mass has praise and worship of Jesus and God teh father built into it. Every hymn is praise and worship of God. There is much praise in the liturgy. And this has been so for 2000 years. I'm actually in a praise and worship band, (so how can I be a devil worshipper). I have met many catholics who are in the healing and deliverance ministry. There are many miracles being performed through the Holy Spirit.

@SuperChristlike The Scripture is meant to be interpreted NORMALLY. Historically and grammatically. You interpret it like you would interpret any other piece of literature or any other conversation. It is quite obvious when it is meant to be literal, and obvious when it is allegorical. If I called you satan, you would know that it was a comparison, not that you are actually satan. You interpret LITERALLY. Look up the the Chicago Statement on Hermeneutics for a better understanding. :)

I didn't even read these comments, I just saw yours about the whole not taking the Bible literally... there's principles that guide that, that are complex, and yet quit simple and "duh" like. I recommend the book "Basic Bible Interpretation" by Roy B. Zuck, if you want superb detail. The funny thing is, it's this "spiritual" interpretation that helped with the dominance of the catholic church in the first place.

@SuperChristlike interpreting the Scriptures wrong is going to lead to the wrong meaning, and thus you are going to live out your Christianity in a way that isn't Biblical, in a way that God didn't intend. Everyone else here would be wise to understand that, and seek to, yes, treat the Bible spiritually, but God didn't give us the Bible to hide Himself, He gave it to REVEAL Himself. It is to be interpreted just like any other piece of literature.

There are other things that people have different interpretations of, and we actually can't be 100% sure who's is right. Respond to this video... With regard to interpreting scripture, yes our clergy do that. However there is a whole other personal level of scripture, where God speaks to the individual. There is a lot of scope within our faith to interpret scripture for yourself.

To share your darkest secrets, or sins with another human, knowing that they can never disclose it to anyone; to have someone hear that and not condemn you, but try to steer you in the right direction, give you some advice etc is great. If i confesssed straight to God, I'd miss out on that. It's helpful in truly repenting, which means to change. A priest can be like an accountability partner, to help you overcome patterns of sin.

@SuperChristlike The bible originally had 73 books. In the 1500s when MArtin Luther left the catholic church to start his own (man made ) religion, he removed the other books. From the year 400 onwards there was 73 books. Luther took the ones he didnt like out. The catholic bible hasnt changed since 400. we didnt add any. Luther took some out of the bible that was accepted for over 1000 years.

@SuperChristlike With regard to forgiveness of sins. I repeat (its in scripture). To the apostles, Jesus said: "for those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven". Jesus clearly gives men the authority to forgive sins on hsi behalf. Priests carry on that tradition started by the Apostles.

The very bible that you base your christianity on was compiled by the catholic church.at the local councils of Hippo (circa 393AD) and Carthage (397AD) and Pope Innocent made it official in early 400s. There were many more books that were floating around and being used by christians as scripture, so it was necesary to put that to an end and determine which books were the true gospel.

Forgiveness can only be given by God, who acts through the priests (his representatives on earth). "Those whose sins you forgive on earth are forgiven in heaven. Those whose sins you retain, are retained in heaven. " (Jesus Christ, giving authority to the apostles to forgive sins on his behalf).

WHy is it that ST Peter's body is buried under the church at the Vatican? The term pope came into existence later,(thats why its not in the bible ) the name for the head of the church. Peter was the bishop of Rome ( who is nowadays also known as the pope).

@SuperChristlike No church is perfect and we dont claim to be. With 1 billion people, there are many many catholics who dont live christian lives. See, we dont believe simply believing in Jesus gets us salvation. Therefore, there are many bad catholics, some of them pure evil (like some of these priests). Jesus had followers who were also evil. (Judas). Now, does the fact that Judas was a poor christian make the early church in valid? Of course not.(cont)

@SuperChristlike There were bad seeds in the early church, and there are bad seeds in the current church. Because we're human, we will all continue to sin and be tempted till the day we die. If Judas who knew Jesus personally, heard every sermon, saw every miracle, had Jesus as his teacher, and advisor in the faith, could be corrupted by the devil, then of course a priest can too. Anyone can. Thats why we need Jesus, and have to pray daily.

@xxzzxx99 if anything your catholic church is famous for being child molesters!!!! you have no movements and revivals.. a bunch of sunday church goers... the other day i past by a catholic church and they were celebrating in the parking lot with two huge trucks of Budweiser and budlight!!!! God help them!! thats how the catholic church represents God.. how sad... meanwhile at my church we were feeding the hungry and giving out grocery bags of food... your religion is a JOKE!!!

@mookiesmommy2006 There wasn no need for the term catholic in the early church because there was only 1 church.Christian is a generic term. The reason we need the term catholic is to identify it amongst other denominations. I'm not arguing with the bible, just your interpretatition of it. You have to look outside the bible to trace the history of the church. There is only denomination that has a 2000 year history. The (catholic church) Can you name another ? PS, Thanks for the insult.

Perhaps you forgot when Jesus said "for those whose sins you forgive they are forgiven?" he gave men (apostles) the authority to forgive sins on his behalf. The priests carry on this tradition. Jesus said "on this rock, I will build my church". Do you know where Peter is buried.? Under the Catholic church in the Vartican!! Haha!! There's a literal interpretation for ya hahaha!!

@SuperChristlike I explained why there's no denominations in the bible already. Read it again. The catholic church is in fact the largest christian denomination. (this should be obvious). The only lies about the catholic church are the ones you've been taught. The first one you want to look at is sola scriptura. Theres no support for it in the bible. (how ironical aye). @SuperChristlike That early church you speak of, was the start of what is now the catholic church. CAn you give me a date when the "man made" catholic church was started? Who was its founder? When did it come into existence? you actually admit, the catholic church has been around for 2000 years. If thats the case then it is the only christian church that is capable of not being man made!! Respond to this video...There is only ONE denomination that has a 2000 year history. The (catholic church) and this is a fact. If you want to argue with history and facts, go ahead, but do some research. Can you name another denomination with a 2000 year history. If not then, you have no argument, and the catholic church is in fact the church that Jesus set up.

@mookiesmommy2006 The bible wont tell you about the history of the christian church for the past 2000 years will it? because it stops at about the year 60. What happenned after that? I repeat again the catholic church is the only one that can trace its history back 2000 years. Now if you can disprove this, then you'll an argument. But as it stands you have nothing.
