man where can I find these exercises they refer to in the text parts that pop up after each piece he shows? Man I can't believe how much he is willing to share, he's totally unguarded about his style and technique. Amazing!!
@damodrummer1 If you have not found it yet, there is a book and CD or DVD whichever one you want called "modern electric bass" available at amazon, It really goes in depth, all sheet music, if you do not read music get the video, a good visual aid.
Like "yawnjones" said at 2:02 formally self taught. any guy who can laugh like that and talk so down to earth. may i acquaint myself with a friend like this in the near future.
Anybody know what kind of body wood that is? I'm assuming Alder or Swamp Ash (I'm posting this without having done any research). I have a dream of building a custom J bass with sunburst finish, no pickguard, and a fretted P-bass maple on maple neck. The "Jaco Practice Bass" replica. There have been plenty of Jaco stage bass replicas...
@andybass23 you're actually wrong there mate, off course hendrix played by feel, however he did study theory, infact he read up quite a fair bit of theory before he actually became THE Jimi Hendrix
@TyShredder pretty much, except that whenever he say's twelfth in this video he really means 11th. It's an understandable mistake though. Go up to the 9th and add a 3rd, what do you get? 11th, but the brain says 12 because 9+3 is 12.
2:08 two smooth cats right there

He's the Jimi Hendrix of bass. Only he's white.
spoofzilla 3 years ago
...Except he actually knows what he's doing
TyShredder 3 years ago 16
he's right jimi did everything by feel he had basically no knowladge of theory
andybass23 3 years ago 16
I'd more say he's the Charlie Christian of bass.
He took an instrument that was formally just for comping and turned it into a strong jazz solo instrument.
SpawnofHastur 2 years ago 3
Not true.
Orbit91 2 years ago
@andybass23 That is DEFINETELY not true, he was self taught by feel, but because of that, and in his later life, he was a true master at his craft.

@ianonfire so why does he talk about scale and progressions? becuase he learned, he talks about it in these vids.... but whatever
