@TOBERT001 that's such an awesome quote, thanks for posting that man. I love it. One of my friends described this stuff after I'd shown it to him as the most peaceful, gentle music he'd heard.
Sublime. Hooray for YouTube and BBC4 because I've added three Neu! cd's to my collection now. I can't believe it was done in the early 70s, it sounds so fresh.
There are no words for this kind of invention. So many bands in my everyday must play list clearly would never have existed without them, cos I'm damn sure it didn't exist before them? The these days cliched stereoscopic phasing across the headphones is absolutely immense! :D
Love this band, love this song, hate the retro elitist attitude. If you don't think there is music being made today that is just as genius as NEU! and other krautrock acts, you need to lose your bias, open your ears, and dig a bit deeper.
@sev783 ah c'mon man. I hear you on the "retro elitist" attitude. I might be victim of that but I try not to be. But I don't think you can ignore the fact that certain time periods are better for art than others. Not every time has just as great of music as the last. Anyway, it's just different. Music today captures different emotions than this music does, so w/e enjoy both I guess. Any good new bands to recommend by the way?
@Alexm799 Agreed. Unbelievable that such an inane comment is made, jesus !!! If anyone is into Krautrock try the album 'Deutsche Electronische Musik' - it's friggin awesome !!!
Freut mich, dass Engländer nicht nur "Can" kennen. Ich liebe "Art-Rock / Experimental"! Deswegen geht für mich auch nichts über "King Crimson" und "Brian Eno", besonders mit "Roxy Music"!
Wow this song is absolutely stunning. Can't believe it's almost 40 years old - it sounds so fresh! (And now I know where early Stereolab drew their inspiration from...)
Special ? yeah Very Special, Rother and Dinger early 70s way early in the creative days of new wave and electronic rock, this one here is a masterpiece !!!
it certainly does put modern music to shame,i cant imagine any of the so called 'big' bands out today creating something one hundreth as unique as something like this...
I love krautrock, especially Amon Düül II, Can and Harmonia, but I can't fully agree with you about there not existing much inventive music nowadays. Mainstream music is always the same, but listen to Animal Collective, The Dirty Projectors, Boards of Canada, The Flaming Lips, Panda Bear, Stars of the Lid, Radiohead, etc. and you are sure to be surprised at how unique their music really is
You're right. There's always another beautiful new band to discover! Check out "Phantom Band" - new scottish band, making great tracks - and obviously very Neu influenced. There's some stuff on youtube.
Thank you for that comment! Checked them out, and you're right, they're quite incredible :P Just bought their album on iTunes :) thnx! If you haven't already, check out Stereolab with "Refried Ectoplasm: Switched On, Vol.1" A french group also very influenced by Neu!
I glad you liked them! Apparently they do a great live show too - but they don't seem to leave Scotland very often, so I haven't had a chance to see them yet. I've got some Stereloab BBC sessions - which I love - , but I'll check out the album you recommended. Tx!
@Dereck89 apparently radiohead was really inspired by this band and other krautrock bands. I can definitely hear it on "weird fishes" and "these are my twisted words", it's all in the rhythm!
@ConiferTreez You give Krautrock a bad name much more than Radiohead ever did, simply by saying what you just did. You do realize this, don't you? I think maybe krautrock is giving radiohead a bad name....right now.....through you.

@Alexm799 I agree. It makes us redifine what "modern music" really is. As this sounds more modern in the sense of it's experimintation and minimalism than any sort of music today.
@Alexm799 People used to say the same shit in Neu!'s time. Only difference being that Neu! was one of the bands that people like yourself used to refer to as being, "put to shame." Did you hear? This album did not sell well at all during its time. I'll admit that these guys are good, but the only difference between Neu! and what other people were doing at the time, is that Neu! wasn't trying to be anything in particular. They said fuck the box altogether, let's have fun.
I agree with you ..I thinkit's time I bought some Neu! the cover arts great too ... predates the whole uk punk thing the early 70's were an incredibly fertile time if you knew where to look. The seeds of so much were sown back then... it's only recently people have figured this, this music doesn't date (much) it shows what could be acheived with relatively simple tech and a few inventive minds buggering around with it.... tape was and still is a great recording medium
as a krautrocker from the outset I was into Faust and Can and the boys from Dusseldorf .. never heard Neu .... to my ears it's like Fausts Krautrock for sure ..with Michael Karoli's clipped guitar thrown in if you like this and haven't heard Fausts track give it a go ... I think it predates this by a year ...but this is in no way saying Neu ripped off faust ...German bands notoriously didn't know what other krautrock bands were doing ..... interesting subtle a great track ..
This actually came out about 6 months before "Faust IV". I don't reckon either of them ripped off the other - the Krautrock bands were spread across a pretty wide land mass and weren't always aware of each other from what I've read. They're both superb, though.
I never understood why critics have given this album such mediocre ratings. I think it's absolutely amazing! Neu's first three albums are all masterpieces.
