have you ever tried to make a fire with that blastmatch? those things are great but you still need some practice. Cotton balls catch fire easily but when theyre gone its getting tough. Try to make fire with birch bark or other natural resources. If you master that, youll have fire everywhere and anytimes ;)
Good tips, may add ones myself: 1)MP3 player, music is a good way of maintining good mental attitude. Also a Campaign tent for 4 people, a lantern, instead of canoppener get a sharp hunting knife to pierce the cans with carefull. Some rats poison would be OK when mercenaries manage to hostage you. You forgot the purifying water filter. A side arm is lighter, easier to carry and conceal. Rice takes to much energy to cook, instant outmeal packages work better. The can opening can be done with a Swiss Army knife, the opener is too heavy. If you are caught in the open an 8x8 tarp can be used as shelter, but still roll tight enough to strap to the top of your pack. even if you only had 2 weeks of supplies, that is 2 weeks more then 98% of the populace. During a crisis, everyone will clear the shelves.
By preparation now , you have help elevate that strain during a crisis. You have been responsible for yourself, rather then rely on others.
As for what you are doing wrong, you will find what works for you and discard the rest. Example your storage water is expensive, consider a katadyn pocket filter.

As of January 2010, we are going thru a period of deflation in some sectors of economy such as housing and the auto industry. Other sectors such as food and gasoline are already going up due to inflation from the money printing. Many stocks right now are overvalued except maybe commodities which are undervalued. Commodities always do well in period of inflation.

FYI...I've always thought that I would remember everything regardless of the situation. A few months back I had to fly back home ASAP when my father was in the hospital. Under stress, it was hard deciding what I HAD TO HAVE in my bag when I was having to pack in a 20 minute time period. My advice is to make a list!!! Just my 2 cents though!

@mjuloi there are two kinds of economic collapses. The first being hyperinflation where the currency is totally worthless. The second being a very deep deflation where money is very scarce. In this scenario we are in now, it is very different from 1929. A lot of foreigners have most of the dollars, and in the U.S. there are few dollars. If the foreigners decide to buy up the U.S., they can very cheaply. They will just wait until prices collapse for U.S. assets, and they will buy it all up.

I have about 15 of them and I plan on using those 16 oz. green coleman bottles to cook with and heat with. Most people don't realize that they are rechargable from the 5 gal. bottles using a cascade valve that you can buy off EBAY. Alcohol is an GREAT bartering item. Buy whisky, vodka, rum etc. Ladies remember ALL of your female needs, stock up. Silver is a MUST!
I have been preparing now for about two years. Forget the bottled water. Buy a British Berkfeld water purifier. Google it and you'll see why. Get a couple of rain barrels along with a CRAP LOAD of seeds. Both hybrid and NON-HYBRID. Some folks would not advise you to get hybrid seeds because they don't reproduce BUT in an emergency, you have a better chance of producing food in your first time garden with them. Actually, I would plant two gardens one of each. Stockpile seeds from your NON-Hybrid.

You will be fighting for your way of life eventually! Buy bulk food, store in mylar w/buckets. Set up food caches!!! What if SHTF and you can't get in your home? Good thing you watched the squirrels bury nuts or you wouldn't have realized how important food cache's are ;). Cache water, ammo, growing seeds, etc. Think long term!

Several freeze dried foods and a MRE. I suggest you get a hand crank short wave radio. I got a multi use radio that recharges phones and ipods for about $50 on ebay. Best $50 I've ever spent. A good way to filter water is to layer sand and charcoal in a plastic bag. make sure you poke a hole on the side.
Not bad, one thing I'd suggest is to ditch that can opener. It's just extra weight and those things fail. In college one time I had a serious case of the munchies and my canopener fell apart in my hands. After that I learned how to open a can with a pocketknife, it's fairly easy if you have a decent one. It's good to have multi-purpose things to cut down on weight. Also everyone here should watch Nutnfancy if they don't already.

Lacy, I too am concerned for these individuals. My advice for them would be to try and get the basics. Some are eligible for food stamps and can buy bulk, lightweight foods that are easy to carry in the event of an evacuation. Things such as dried fruit, granola bars, powder vit c drink, beef jerky, instant potatoes, peanut butter. Low-Cost things that would provide proper fats, protein etc. Also, a portable walter filtration system. Bottled water is a waste and very hard to transport.
But to take a water filter than a water bottle. How about some seeds...man it looks like you are going on a camping trip instead of surviving something that might last for mulitple years!

Be careful not to buy dented canned food, you could get botulism. If you buy walmart brand granola bars you can get granola bars cheaper. Progresso chicken soups are good. You need flour and wheat.
Peter Schiff is a good start but the information isn't really limited to one source. Been watching his videos, he seems to get information from a lot of different sources and uses his own intuition and experience to figure out what's true. Hope that helps.
A bug-out bag is only good if you have a place where to "bug-out" . If you don't have a retreat, consider what you would have to do to survive at home. I.E. Do you have wood heat? Enough wood to get through one winter,Enough hand saws and axes to cut wood for the next winter? Enough trees on your place to provide firewood?

You forgot the purifying water filter. A side arm is lighter, easier to carry and conceal. Rice takes to much energy to cook, instant outmeal packages work better. The can opening can be done with a Swiss Army knife, the opener is too heavy. If you are caught in the open an 8x8 tarp can be used as shelter, but still roll tight enough to strap to the top of your pack. As of January 2010, we are going thru a period of deflation in some sectors of economy such as housing and the auto industry. Other sectors such as food and gasoline are already going up due to inflation from the money printing. Many stocks right now are overvalued except maybe commodities which are undervalued. Commodities always do well in period of inflation.

FYI...I've always thought that I would remember everything regardless of the situation. A few months back I had to fly back home ASAP when my father was in the hospital. Under stress, it was hard deciding what I HAD TO HAVE in my bag when I was having to pack in a 20 minute time period. My advice is to make a list!!! Just my 2 cents though!

@mjuloi there are two kinds of economic collapses. The first being hyperinflation where the currency is totally worthless. The second being a very deep deflation where money is very scarce. In this scenario we are in now, it is very different from 1929. A lot of foreigners have most of the dollars, and in the U.S. there are few dollars. If the foreigners decide to buy up the U.S., they can very cheaply. They will just wait until prices collapse for U.S. assets, and they will buy it all up.

I have been preparing now for about two years. Forget the bottled water. Buy a British Berkfeld water purifier. Google it and you'll see why. Get a couple of rain barrels along with a CRAP LOAD of seeds. Both hybrid and NON-HYBRID. Some folks would not advise you to get hybrid seeds because they don't reproduce BUT in an emergency, you have a better chance of producing food in your first time garden with them. Actually, I would plant two gardens one of each. Stockpile seeds from your NON-Hybrid.

Not bad, one thing I'd suggest is to ditch that can opener. It's just extra weight and those things fail. In college one time I had a serious case of the munchies and my canopener fell apart in my hands. After that I learned how to open a can with a pocketknife, it's fairly easy if you have a decent one. Lacy, I too am concerned for these individuals. My advice for them would be to try and get the basics. Some are eligible for food stamps and can buy bulk, lightweight foods that are easy to carry in the event of an evacuation. Things such as dried fruit, granola bars, powder vit c drink, beef jerky, instant potatoes, peanut butter. Low-Cost things that would provide proper fats, protein etc. Also, a portable walter filtration system. Bottled water is a waste and very hard to transport.

also too you can buy silver but ammo will have a fae greater worth the food you worry about due to large size is not a mistake u will find yourself needing the help of other and providing help to them as well a small group will have a much better chance of survival than a lone man and keep in mind clean water to drink is more important than food and i do not see that you have made provisions to have water to drink the average human needs approx 1 gallon a day to drink

your not wrong in being prepared however you r gonna be carrying alot of weight u dont need in the items you show u should research and u will see what i am sayin also you need a gun for small game as well as a pistol u r on the right track but u r spending money on things u dont need and dont have stuff u really need like a knife and a means for shelter look on the web and u will find out what to ditch and what u need 2 do and there is nothing wrong with being prepared u got a nice start though

Be careful not to buy dented canned food, you could get botulism. If you buy walmart brand granola bars you can get granola bars cheaper. Progresso chicken soups are good. You need flour and wheat.

Peter Schiff is a good start but the information isn't really limited to one source. Been watching his videos, he seems to get information from a lot of different sources and uses his own intuition and experience to figure out what's true. Hope that helps.

A bug-out bag is only good if you have a place where to "bug-out" . If you don't have a retreat, consider what you would have to do to survive at home. I.E. Do you have wood heat? Enough wood to get through one winter,Enough hand saws and axes to cut wood for the next winter? Enough trees on your place to provide firewood?

Almost two years but it took me less to know that, that's not the type of lifestyle i want. I grew up a catholic my parents forced me to go to church and they fed me lies until i started to look up the shit my parents and sunday school told me and it was all bullshit sorry religion is for some but not all.
