I thought myself a hardened combat soldier. wounded, rehabbed and returned to combat. injured again and again...been to some of the armpits of this planet...this movie made me cry. all the things I was told in the 80s and 90s about russia(soviet union) to realize they are just like us. hopefully their dead will find peace and the loved ones will find comfort.

And remember that at the same time the soviets were dropping toy-shaped mines and blasting villages to nothing. The USA has ROE and much lower civilian casualties (estimated USA is tens of thousands, and Soviet estimate is around 1 million). The USSR failing does not mean USA failure - two different wars.

CIA didn't have to supply AK-47s to anybody. You could buy those easy on black market. Corruption in soviet Army before fall of Communism was totally out of control.

The CIA supplied ak's rpk's rpg's mortars basically every thing that they captured off the NVA in Vietnam except the stingers which the yanks produced and mate if you go to any war zone you can buy any weapons system you want if you have the cash a mortar on the black market is a simple buy or you can make one easily if you get the ammo

war is war its been the same for years we got it easy compared to the first and second wars the only difference now is we got the media hyping up everything for profit i was in the forces and saw a little action in bosnia and croatia so have seen things. if the goverments were not bothered about what the press thinks then things would go more smoother in afghanistan and public opinion wouldnt be split troops fight and live longer with the backing of the public

it isnt a stale mate its a forced stale mate by the goverment with there shit rules of engagement soldiers are scared to shoot in case they get an innocent afghan the talliban know this and when they attack they send out women and children into the fire to try lower the firepower they recieve because they know the rules we have to stick to we could win this war if they get off our backs we are killing the talliban at about 120 to 1 of our guys there pretty good odds to me what u think?

i have seen the movie and i liked it. it was sad and heroic and heartbreaking.
modern wars are...well stupid for me. i have absoletly no idea for what they are fought for. not for freedom that is sure.
my homeland had to fight for its freedom more than once and we lost few times. after more then 40 years we are free again.
i know how to value the price of freedom and what means if u dont have any. luckly our last fight for freedom was bloodless.

Some are fought for real freedom, like Finland defending itself from the Soviets. Some peoples fight others for land to live on, like the germanic tribes against Rome.
