@NightWolfEditing I actually got mine on Ebay for around $15 used. Server cards are usually a lot more durable, and perform better. It's nice to have the bandwidth of the 64 bit PCI slot too.
@samlaxrocks Using Charter Cable. The modem is sweet. I can get 60+ MB/sec during off-peak hours, and I only have a 25 Meg service. Soon I'll be upgrading to 60 Meg service.
Wow. Running for 4 years straight is amazing. I'm surprised the hard drives lasted that long. I wonder what brand of hard drives you have. By the way, don't you think having a server for a router is a bit of an over kill especially if you can achieve the same results with a cheap P3 desktop. I'm running PFsense on a Dell Optiplex GX110 (900MHZ,128MB,20GB) for a year now with no problem. Anyways great video.
@dawgp0und I use real servers for the reliability and easy maintenance. They must also be able to deal with high speed traffic. The whole network is Gigabit, shared between 4-10 users, and my cable service will be around 100 meg later this year.
Prolient dl 360 same server I have. With older coppermines and 256 MB of ram and also running clearos. How do you get to the BIOS in that server. I've always wondered How. the only thing I could assume is That everything is controlled by the dip switches on the motherboard.
@computerdude556 It uses a floppy from what I can remember. When the blinking cursor appears in the top right, pressing F10 would load the diagnostics partition from the hard drive. I forgot about that when I made the video, and I still haven't disabled the onboard LAN yet. I'll have to get out the service manual.
@stonercrazyclips222 Yep, but I'm not sure you can still get version 4.5.2 on the website. The later versions are demo only at the moment, and don't do real tests.

That ethernet card is an Intel PRO 1000/MT, I have one on my PowerEdge 2650.
And I stopped using Shitgates long ago, I bought 4 of them and I RMA'd 6... Using WDs exclusively now.

@Nixk490 yeah... that's what I was thinking. Over here a 2TB WD costs $100. Must be IDE or something.

@uzaiyaro Yep, IDE.

Seems like ever since Seagate bought Maxtor, their quality has tanked.
amfan12 1 year ago
@amfan12 Because they adopted Maxtor's bad habits. WD tried to take them over but Seagate pulled out. I'm happy they did.
