@omgomg138 No, you don't understand the meaning of freestyle. Long as he isn't reading off anything, you could write it down fifty times over as long as you don't read it when you rhyme it, its a freestyle.
@youngj1921 So then every time he does a show with each song he has on the album (memorized) it's a freestyle according to what you're saying. A freestyle is off the top of the head, improvisation.
@youngj1921 What's the 2nd definition? U mean spittin' a verse that's already memorized? In either case it could be over a beat. Improvisation is freestyle. It's not anything thought out beforehand, other than a knowledge of ryhme, rhythm & delivery. The verses usually aren't thought out beforehand. The only thing I can give you is using verses in a different combination w/other verses. Otherwise, freestyle is all off the top of the head.
@trygvie freestyles were originally pre-written verses that weren't on any specific subject, created to demonstrate the rapper's skill. Nowadays freestyle is used to describe a rap that is completely on the spot.
Hey, I know not many people will read this, and probably less will like this, but I've been working on becoming a rapper for a while, and have been writing for a really long time.
Only recently have I built up the courage to start putting my videos on youtube, and really work towards my passion. If you could take a second to thumbs up this comment, and check out my videos it would mean the world to me
If you believe in promoting real, conscience artists, please help the cause. Thank you.
@843stoner HAHAHAHA have you seen drake freestyle, he used his blackberry, Lupe's got his own style and timeing that no one could take from him if they tried. Its ignorant mainstream followers like you that paint rosy pictures for shitty rappers like lil wayne.
@843stoner drake is a good rapper. but he cannot freestyle. this is a freestyle. I think Drake is very good at telling stories with his lyrics and he has great songs but Lupe is definitely not garbage. If you really listen to his lyrics there's so much hidden meaning its just so far and away from most mainstream music. That being said, I do like Drake, but the rest of young money is trash. Lil wayne comes up with good metaphors and crap but his lyrics are completely random and irrelevant
@843stoner and Nikki Minaj is only popular because she does her weird voice change thing when she raps. For everyone else, note in my last comment I did say Lupe was ahead of "most" mainstream stuff but lets be honest Lupe is pretty mainstream himself. If you REALLY want some true underground hip-hop you'd be better off looking up the rappers under the rhymesayers label
@SuklaaHB lol lupe isnt even mainstream only song i heared on radio of hs was super start 07 n words i never said lupe fiasco has tons of shit u prolly never heared
@sofakingey yea I caught a few & like Lupe being the future of Hip Hop, I feel I am too. I know youre sick of the damn "im a rapper" comments on youtube, but im not. Im an artist like Lupe and my music will show it if you give it a chance! TRUST ME WHEN I SAY I COME CORRECT IN EVERY LINE I DROP" I stand for 100% Hip Hop, and you wont be disappointed. Its 1440 minutes in a day, im just asking for 3. Thanks and take care

The Link to download the MP3 is up there too!
@KennaStyles I think the beat had been floatin around with Jay on it before American Gangsta, then they just switched it up, added Beanie, etc when that soundtrack came out. There's a version with a 3rd verse by Hov, I believe, instead of beans
@sdotsom Ye he did better on this joint than Jay IMO & like Lupe being the future of Hip Hop, I feel I am too.
@sdotsom i think ignorant shit was a possible black album cut, jay said later he shoulda put it on instead of one of the later tunes....maybe "Justify My Thug", not completely sure tho
Before listening to Lupe I thought all rap was about drugs, money, girls, and killing people. I refused to listen to it, instead I became a poet, trying to make meaningful poems. After I heard Lupe and Eminem all of that changed. I figured out that rap could be about real issues. Lupe had inspired me to be an mc. Check out my channel if you wanna hear my music.
I'm an absolute supporter of Lupe all the way. From Food and Liquor to the album coming out now that took far too long. Everyone's quick to assume that the people who don't get Lupe's metaphors only dislike him for that reason alone. What you have to consider is that some people look towards music to get away from stress or just everyday life. Lupe tends to bring people back to the real world by facing real world issues. Are they a little biased? In certain aspects. But then who isnt? Its music.
@AppearingC3P0 Haha hell yeah they did son, Crucial bit BTNH big time. BTNH will always be the kings of what they do, Lupe is the king of what he does.
More rappers should Lupe and Mos Def, focusing on the intellectual rather than trying to just appeal to the crowd, as if rapping about material items was the only way to relate to an audience.
Here's the deal: people either can't keep up with what Lupe's saying or they aren't real fans of HipHop fans that can appreciate true LYRICAL GENIUS. It's simple, people who don't like Lupe Fiasco simply can't comprehend him. That's the only explanation that could possible make sense. They'd be better off sticking to instrumentals and and calling it a day. Lupe's so far over people's heads it's ridiculous. He and Em are untouchable lyrically. Both are out of control in distinct ways. Irrefutable
*This Aint a Pen it's a Paint Brush and I intend to Rearrange how they Paint Us* LUPE IS SMART he is talking about the Music Industries! This Cat is the TRUTH out of MANY! Lupe is that SHINY LIGHT I was looking for out of the Darkness Rap Music is in Today! Don't sleep on this Cat he is TOO SLICK!
"This aint a Pen its a Paint Brush and I intend to rearrange how they Paint us" LUPE IS SMART he is talking about the Music Industry! I'm telling u if their is LIGHT in between the Darkness of Pop Artist and Rappers out right now, Lupe is the MAIN one to GIVE A MESSAGE TO SHINE LIGHT! I'm liking this cat More now did you'll listen to his Dead Presidents Freestyle?!
Jay dont mind me im jus blowing my zone up, doing it ab as fly as a maggot grown up, and still got a life thats backing the poems up, jus give me a folding chair im not after the throne BUT
@gopack2k if i'm not mistaken, i believe he used that line as a sample at the end of dumb it down... if not then he just held onto that line since this freestyle and used it on the cool, but i'm pretty sure he just clipped it and put it in at the end of D.I.D.
@gopack2k People had been telling him to dumb it down for a long time because of his complex lyrics and he made the song dumb it down to comemerate his complex stylings
"this aint a pen its a paint brush and i intend to rearrange how they paint us" - just when you thought hip hop was flooded with negativity here comes lupe 2 the rescue
@Fiasco117 Actually, in other countries, positive Hip Hop is still pretty prominent, although the "gangsta wave" splashed over after 50 Cent's "rise" - I still like American Hip Hop the most, though, it's the impressive original !
But 2 good lines from Samy Deluxe (greatest rapper in Europe, translated from German):
"Life is a grey wall, my raps are the neon signs."
"Similar goals on different ways throughout this wonderland, some are hoping for deliverance, some are waiting for their doom."
Lupe has the best metaphors in the game you may think Wayne has em but you get waynes metaphors most people never get Lupe's, so thats why so many peopl are on waynes nuts and Lupe has so many hatas, dumbasses get wayne but dont get Lupe, so you hate people who get Lupe like Lupe so get Lupe's lyrics read them get the meaning behind his science, then you'll stop hatin dumbass
@aNtHoNyDcKiDdO well theres, its not a pen its a paintbrush, meaning its not just one layer of stuff its like a tapestry of amazing and theres some others
@superman200000 ya...lupe fiasco the first rapper i had to use a lyrics website for to be honest like Twilight Zone if u get Twilight Zone the first time u played it your a genious in my eyes ;p

Hard to believe that was a freestyle. Nice, but I think it was written.

@trygvie i think all the lupe freestyles are the old meaning of freestyle : a written verse to show an mcs skill not coming off the top
69killlluminati69 4 months ago
@trygvie It was . It was a freestyle in a sense that he spit a verse over an already popular beat. It actually should be called a Freeverse.
omgomg138 4 months ago 5
@omgomg138 No, you don't understand the meaning of freestyle. Long as he isn't reading off anything, you could write it down fifty times over as long as you don't read it when you rhyme it, its a freestyle.

trygvie 3 months ago
@trygvie There are two definitions of freestyle. 1 is the obvious off the dome rapping, the other is spitting a verse on an already existing beat.
youngj1921 3 months ago
@youngj1921 What's the 2nd definition? U mean spittin' a verse that's already memorized? In either case it could be over a beat. Improvisation is freestyle. trygvie 3 months ago
@youngj1921 Unless of course you want to make a liberal definition of freestyle which anything goes & in that case why even have a definition at all?
trygvie 3 months ago
@trygvie freestyles were originally pre-written verses that weren't on any specific subject, created to demonstrate the rapper's skill. Nowadays freestyle is used to describe a rap that is completely on the spot.

@trygvie Long as you aren't reading anything and it isn't a pre-existing verse (like one from a song).

@trygvie Another definition, or should I say another example of freestyle is- the "style" or type of "flow" of delivery of lyrics over a beat.
frankieyessss 3 weeks ago
@frankieyessss Yeah, that'd be another aspect of the freestyle flow, the style.

This is one of the realest songs I have ever heard. The end quote is just amazing:
"Friend, nah; this ain't a pen; it's a paintbrush; and I intend to rearrange how they paint us; end"

Jay-Z still had the best version. His verses took time to digest.

im confused... he quoted a song from the cool (dumb it down), but this was before food and liquor
gopack2k 1 year ago
@gopack2k if i'm not mistaken, i believe he used that line as a sample at the end of dumb it down... if not then he just held onto that line since this freestyle and used it on the cool, but i'm pretty sure he just clipped it and put it in at the end of D.I.D.
dickmaguffin 1 year ago
@gopack2k This is probably where the idea originated. He might of taken the line then made a whole song out of it.
LuckyNumberAce 1 year ago
@gopack2k People had been telling him to dumb it down for a long time because of his complex lyrics and he made the song dumb it down to comemerate his complex stylings

"this aint a pen its a paint brush and i intend to rearrange how they paint us" - just when you thought hip hop was flooded with negativity here comes lupe 2 the rescue
Fiasco117 1 year ago 60
@Fiasco117 Actually, in other countries, positive Hip Hop is still pretty prominent, although the "gangsta wave" splashed over after 50 Cent's "rise" - I still like American Hip Hop the most, though, it's the impressive original !
But 2 good lines from Samy Deluxe (greatest rapper in Europe, translated from German):
"Life is a grey wall, my raps are the neon signs."
"Similar goals on different ways throughout this wonderland, some are hoping for deliverance, some are waiting for their doom."

Lupe has the best metaphors in the game you may think Wayne has em but you get waynes metaphors most people never get Lupe's, so thats why so many peopl are on waynes nuts and Lupe has so many hatas, dumbasses get wayne but dont get Lupe, so you hate people who get Lupe like Lupe so get Lupe's lyrics read them get the meaning behind his science, then you'll stop hatin dumbass
superman200000 1 year ago 109
@superman200000 that is real true but wayne has more hatars than lupe. almost nobody hates lupe, cuz they all know hes a beast.
tjdgus1993 1 year ago 4
