She slipped up on the track star statement. Athletes inspire people and influence their thoughts all the time. She's just underestimating that because it means nothing to her. And, just because you have an agile brain doesn't mean that you'll understand everything fully and properly. Calculative thinking doesn't always translate out to developed wisdom, in fact it never does unless that topic is fully realized and understood... which is of course a process, not an instant realization.
@WontBeSaved First, measured by who? And how do you know no one is fibbing? And second, IQ is a great test of overall intelligence? No. MANY people who's IQ's are "listed" as being very high say and believe some of the most ridiculous things. I'd take what they say and believe in over a IQ claim anyday.
And now here we are some 25 years in the future and the government openly bribes the media now days, the "truth" is whatever pays the most money, and most people have no clue and don't even care...Insanely disappointing
She doesn't really blow me away with her intellect although in saying that i have got a cousin who got a scholarship to the 7th best school in the UK had an IQ of 157 which is obviously not as high as Marilyn but to talk to he wasn't that impressive but the life he had created for himself was so who knows. Like she says an IQ test doesn't even come close to exploring the full parameters of someones intelligence.
This particular snippet doesn't say much of value. If you watch more of this interview, and you know how to spot it, you will see that this woman is the real deal. For more people who are genuine super-brains, look up Richard Feynman's videos and read Da Vinci's notebooks. The trick is to look not for complexity, but for accuracy, that your brain will recognize immediately. Unneeded complexity is just someone who WANTS to appear smart, but isn't quite there yet.
@EGarrett01 I agree, Marilyn uses plain and simple English to explain things straight to the point, a sharp contrast to the somewhat fake intellectual speak of the interviewer.
this is the kind of idealism that i had when I was like 12 years old...she seems very immature. and the fact that she thinks there is even such thing as non-biased news just goes to show you that high IQ does not imply intelligence
@JohnJ2427 oh so you think "nonbiased news" is even possible? please explain how. if you dont understand my comment then dont pretend to criticise it with such a weak statement like that. what kind of degenerate just goes to someone and says something like what you wrote, and not even attempt to offer an explanation or an argument relevant to ANYTHING i said?
@slovakmath Seven months later? Really? Wow. You'd think that in seven months you'd have thought of something intelligent to say. Maybe another seven months will help.
@JohnJ2427 Just keep ignoring my questions and refer to trivialities. And perhaps wouldn't you think it would be appropriate to ask why i responded after 7 months instead of assuming i spent the whole time thinking if that absurd and baseless statement you made? Maybe you can respond to my question now that you have ignored twice
@slovakmath I couldn't have ignored any questions twice because you didn't ask any questions in your first comment. I went back and read it again, even though it was from seven months ago, and there wasn't a single question mark. So I don't understand why you said that I ignored your question twice.
@slovakmath C-Span seems to do a pretty good job. I think news outlets have a responsibility to try to be as fair as possible. Honesty can go a long way. Bias can be kept to a minimum where it cannot be eliminated altogether, and admitted where it exists. (In other words, the failure to eliminate bias does not justify bad behavior.) And consumers should recognize that not everyone tries to be honest. Being open about your bias, as MSNBC and Fox News are, is almost as good.
@JohnJ2427 I dont even know where to begin. I have never heard anyone claim that Fox or MSNBC are honest about bias. Anyone who makes this claim has never seriously thought about how these companies make money and how their media output is regulated by the people who give them money (advertisers).
@slovakmath If Fox and MSNBC are trying to hide their bias, they're doing a really bad job of it. but you should begin with the point that bias in reporting should be kept to a minimum where it cannot be eliminated entirely. I don't know if you agree or disagree with that, but that's the answer to your question.
@JohnJ2427 I suggest you read Manufacturing Consent by Noam Chomsky. This was written decades ago, so your claims are inexcusable. Anyone who chooses to ignore the mass disinformation produced by multinational media conglomerates which are owned by entities such as GE have no right to pretend they are unbiased.
@slovakmath I didn't say they're unbiased. I said they're open about their bias. They're so open that even someone as dumb as Chomsky can see it. The more insidious kind of bias comes form sources like NPR and Chomsky. If you're still stuck way back there, you've got a lot of catching up to do. I recommend starting with vos Savant's book The Power of Logical Thinking. Chomsky is for people who need to have their ego stroked and told repeatedly that they're better than everyone else.
@JohnJ2427 conglomerates open about their bias dont ignore mass information that contradicts their expressed reality which forms perfectly with their advertisers
@slovakmath Actually, they seem to do it all the time. That's why I personally encourage people to try to get their news from a diverse set of sources. That's the best inoculation against both intentional and unintentional bias that I know of. People have to take some responsibility for themselves at some point in time, especially in a society as free as ours.
@slovakmath Sure. Just the other day I encouraged a friend of mine to get her news from multiple sources. I even tweeted something similar last week.
Oh, you mean an example of a news conglomerate ignoring information that contradicts their preferred narrative. Okay, how about the New York Times ignoring the bankruptcy of Evergreen Solar, a company that got tons of green subsidies and some stimulus cash.
Wait, maybe I was right about what you meant the first time.
@JohnJ2427 you say oh and wait...i dont understand english enough to understand what you are saying....however, yes i was referring to "example of a news conglomerate ignoring information that... ". I will read about this example tomorrow and respond
I agree with everything she said. If you want to influence others' thinking or accept your point of view, it is usually not enough to state your point of view clearly. You must also GIVE ROOM for your audience to think and FIND OUT about the meaning of what you have said.
Hey my fellow people, I HATE this interviewer, but come to think of it, maybe he spoke so much on purpose, to make the other party (in this case MMVS) more talkative? Reversed psychology!
@marcphilos I agree. I do not know who started the habit of the interviewer or reporter talking a lot; I know Walter Cronkite did it quite a lot and sometimes one could not hear the news because of the racket he created!
