My honest opinion: This movie had MUCH better visual effects than the old version (the sandstorm/crash scene was simply awesome). The acting, although it was great in the old movie, was also superb in this one (yes, I can find PLENTY of cheesy moments in the old movie too). The cinematography was one of the best I've seen (you can't even compare it to 1965). For the love of God quit hating on the remakes. They're exposing this great story to a new generation.
