1 - I am an architect and an expert of Christian arts, I come from Italy. Reading some comments here, I feel sorrow because of many historical mystification about the history of this monument. In fact, some people (which I consider of a very low cultural level) claim that this was originally a catholic church (as its shapes would suggest) belonging to Albanian, and that it was later usurped by orthodox Serbs. This is simply FALSE.
2 - The shapes of this church are a mix of Raska-Serbian and Romanesque type, a western style of Middle ages. This DOESN’T mean that it was found as catholic. It was Serbian-orthodox since construction in 14th century, as one of Serbian royal monasteries. Influences of Latin elements are due to the fact that Medieval Serbia had strong commercial and cultural ties with Dubrovnik and its surroundings, like Kotor, where Fra Vita came from (architect who projected the church for the Serbian king).
3 - Albanians have nothing to do with this story, sorry. Which doesn’t mean that their claims upon Kosovo are not legitimate! They are, since they live there since centuries (having built a lot of their typical Kullas in that region, during 17th century and later). Kos. Albanians should share their sovereignty with Kosovo Serbs, who are also a fundamental part of Kosovo’s historical identity.
4 - But first of all they should RESPECT each other. And from Albanian part, respecting Serbs also means to respect historical truth, without politicizing it, also by admitting that these monuments are Serbian. All other versions of history are just RUBBISH, invented since 1998-99 just for political purposes. Remember: RECIPROCAL RESPECT IS THE MAIN CONDITION FOR PEACE! A lawn with different kinds of flowers is more beautiful than one with only one type of grass.

The Katholic monk Vito Kuci, the master builder of the church, was an albanian. Thats why the serbian don't mentch the name KUCI, they just say VITO. I know the story because I'm from Decan.
For long time I have been looking for such statement. I can cite you and it be more helpful if you would please post some references. I can not find any site for it. Thx!
"kosovo is serbia" maybe you should change places Serbia cames from Kossova and maybe its time now to learn your real history , and your heroes origin I just saw something interestin that in your's great kings, grave inscription , is not writen Stefan Nemanja but Stefan Nimani wich is Albaninan surname and ,Nimanaj is branch of Albanian tribe Gashi " which where owners of lands on the Deqanis region and Deqanis Monastery ,
Hehehehe, I'm verry sorry to break your dream, but you can't read my friend !!! First : It does not say "Nimani", but the inscription shows Nemanja, and it is written in Old Slavonic. Second: Not Albanian name !!, but I guess something like the Serbian version of a Hebrew name.
Long live our 2000 years old ancient Orthodox Church!
