  • i have a few questions. should you put cold air intake on you "daily driver"? and does it pose any prombles that could happen to your engine?

  • not only is that a short ram, but that intake inlet is TOO small for that truck! hell that's the size i'd use on my 2.2 cavy!

  • i put a intake to my 318ti and for some reason it either my my catalyc converter burn or brake, cus at first when i ran it, it made a few popping sounds when i pulled over and check, the converter was smoking and it turned black in a few spots, can anyone help?

  • That whole intake thing is a scam! The factory intake is made to reduce noise, keep the air clean, and easy to maintain. Do you really want to pay for a three dollar tube and high flow filter that has to be washed dried and oiled every time it gets dirty?

  • @rudedogii Factory intakes are restrictive and are made cause of cost and like you siad noise reduction. Also it cuts horsepower for insurance costs too. Take it from an engine builder what you just stated is totaly wrong and you need to get your facts right.

  • @burnbabey12 Facts? Here's the facts. Check out the K&N HP gains. The maximum gains in HP are at 4000RPM. Thats sounds good but your average guy rarely hits 4000rpm on the hiway. Racers would benefit from that but not your average Joe. "Cold air is denser" meaning more power? My truck runs the same on a hot day or a cold day. Hiflow filters. Hold one of those filters up to a light and you can see the light thru the gaps. Yes they flow more thru them holes.

  • @rudedogii I hope you do relize you told me everything I already know and the holes are spaces between the fibers if you move it you will see them every were cause the fibers are some what see through. The fiber itself won't hold back dirt thats why you charge it with oil if you ever worked on or road atv and bikes they have foam filters most of the time you charge them with a heavy gear oil to hold in and stop the dirt.

  • @rudedogii Other facts are at some point you will need to jump above 4000 rpms at one point or another while you are driving. far as cold air intakes go i been helping my cousin modify a 97 s10 with the 4.3 the stock air box inlet itself was half the diameter of the main intake hose not to mention the crappy paper filters by the way you can see light trough paper filters too. We did that and took out the srean in front of the map sensor and removed the restrictor plate then headors 263 rwhp.

  • @rudedogii The stock horsepower was 190.... thats before the 2.5 inch down pipes and duals we are about to put on and the custome tune oh ya 31 mpg. :)

  • Does the intake improve your gas mileage?

  • @spraybreaker barely enough to notice

  • Thats not a cold air intake thats a short ram. Its getting hot air. Your an idiot change the post name

  • just watch before you look up halo headlights on ebay... sometimes its a pain in the ass on ebay.. i installed the halo headlights on my grand prix... just watch some companies on there.. they tend to mislead what your really buying.. good luck

  • Meh, chevy guy right here, but you do have a hell of allot of room under your hood. You could add some bigger stuff,..i think. Gettting a cold air intake for my silverado very soon.

  • that intake cone looks too close too the engine...

  • Hey guys, I installed a performance intake on my 2007 Mitsubishi Galant in an attempt to improve gas mileage. I've driven it 1000 miles with the intake on and now i'm getting horrible gas mileage (15mpg compared to 25mpg b4 the install). The intake is the only thing i've done to my car. Any advice? I just cleaned by Mass Airflow Sensor, and the Intake filter itself. I'm not flooring the gas pedal at all. I'd appreciate any advice. Thank you.

  • WWWWWOOoww i bet that adds like 500hp

  • @Alxrez

Did a kid with a Neon just try to make fun of a Ram with a cai? LMAO

  • Ya buddy thats a warm air intake just to let u no and yes a cold air intake may add horse power it dosent make it go faster

  • it doesnt matter what temp the air is as long as its air and theres lots of it

  • @kreigsmann

You're a moron, colder air is more dense, there is a point to colder air, even though there's not much point in this truck.

  • @kreigsmann well okay

if you want to get scientific then yes

but it doesn't make a enormous difference when driving in a road car. if you were in a twin blown 632 at 9,000 rpm then it would make a TINY difference.

theres noting you can do to change the air temp no matter what.

it could be 30 below with the air filter sticking our of the hood going 50 mph at 5,000 rpm by the time the air enters the combustion chamber its the same temp every time. so dont even try.

  • I like how u got lots of bugs in your radiator. xD

    Nice truck by the way

  • Comment removed

  • @Vettes4lyfe Its attached to the hood.

  • @christianguitarest oh ya it is huh. haha! wow...forgot about that XD

  • Ha... all the heat from the engine bay is going right in that air filter ... what a shame ...

  • ricer

  • @chikwin GO die retard. Ricers are people who mod they're cars to look nice without adding performance. An itake may be a low grade mod, but it does add performance so stfu and stop looking at car vids.

  • @SirSmokesAlot954 Ricers are also faggots. you forgot that part

  • HEY .. IS IT 4.7L OR 5.7L ??

  • cold? I would have to say the air under that hood would be pretty dam hot.

  • Thats a ebay intake I got the same kind on my 94 Z24.

  • boght off ebay! so did i for bros truck works just as good i need one so bad

  • you need a bigger intake for that big sucker, at least 4 inches :p

  • thats a hot air intake, not really a cold air intake.

  • @sunnyjason

lol hot air intake, you mean Short Ram. Both add horsepower though, not that noticeable. A cold air will do about 5 or so hp at 7000 RPM's while a Short Ram will do about 4 hp at 7000

  • cold air intakes actually improve gas mileage, however with how much you'll play with the throttle because it sounds so good will drop your fuel economy

  • dudes don't BUY a CAI, MAKE YOUR OWN DAMN ONE!

    IT'S EASY

just go to autozone or Pepeboys and they sell custom intake tubes and filters.

Hell, you can even have a friend custom weld you a intake box. Thats what im gonna do :)

  • @slobergoof

Exactly what I'm going to do, do a Short Ram for now with some Spectre performance parts and later get some more piping to run into my fender for a CAI

  • That looks just like the one I got off ebay for 20.00. Seems to help a little even though it is not true cold air intake.

  • Thats not cold air intake! lmao they sell real cold air intake kits for 250-400 bucks

  • I'm digging the halo headlights.

  • what part of this setup makes it take in cold air? because im not seeing it.

  • thats not a cold air system your going to be sucking all the hot air from inside the engine bay the air filter needs to be out side of the engine bay that better than stock but not cold air

  • where do you relocate your O2 sensor if its just a tube??? Because without it, you'll obviously have shit mileage and your engine will run bad.

  • thats not a cold air thats a short ram and you gotta get the right tube and you can ram it to where the original one goes and box it off you will see a big difference my friend built his own it split into two right from the throttle body it was cool

  • the air intake will help in gas millage, hourse power and torque. It is a little difference but if you plan on having the vehicle for a long time it a good investment. Spectre has a good price rang that is affordible

  • a K&N filter also helps and is alot less money

  • ehh.. that doesn't look like it takes in any cold air. That's probably one of the hottest spots under the hood. Like everyone else has said, cover it.

  • yes but is a short ram system, i doesnt fit into the area where the original intake would fit, although boxing it may help this seems fine

  • I have that same intake on my ram i added the rubber/plastic tube thing from the ram box to the air box for added length

  • its not a ram air intake...

its called a SHORT RAM INTAKE.

    why??

idk thats just the way its called lol

    very nice truck tough

i own a sebring and i recently installed a short ram with a k&n filter im looking for a way to feed it some cold air..if any one has some advice plz let me know

    thanks =)

  • Like everyone is saying it really isn't cold air intake and even though it sounds good it might slow you down because the heat. After you are done driving your truck feel the metal on the intake so you can see how hot it is. Just like a heater, when the air passes thru it, it will make the air hotter. I never could figure out why they make them out of metal or aluminum and call them cold air intakes. More like sounds good hot air intake.

  • thats probably why most of K&N's intakes are plastic...

  • its not really cold or ram air, ram air is when ur driving along and the air goes directly into the intake (pod filter)

cold air needs to be covered over to protect it from sucking in the hot engine air

  • cut a hole in the hood and put a hood scoop on it. then you would be able to call it a "cold air" intake.

very nice tho. i have the same model dodge. 2003 1500 3.7 v6

i love the truck. except mine is red

  • thats not cold air thats ram air. in order to be cold air the air actually needs to be cold....the hood is one of the hottest places on a vehicle.

  • you need to put a cover or it will just be a hot air intake, becaus of the heat from the engine

  • Sadly enough, that's not a cold air intake. Nothing but hot air.

  • It is the chrome makes it cold hahahahaha.

  • Agreed, the correct term is a Ram Air Intake.

  • Nope; Ram Air Intake's have a box just like a CAI, but they also have a tube that diverts air straight into that box, which obviously means that they become more effective the faster you go.

  • dude you have so much room under that hood... you should do a dual cold air intake.. its the same thing you have there but have a T-tube attach to the carburetor and have two pipes going to the left and right.. it will give you more horse power and it'll sound deeper

  • nice truck man

  • i think you need a bigger filter !!!!!

    sobrez

  • yep campaug is right sucking hot air their. just installed kn fipk kit on my 03 with the 4.7 and it is horse power you can feel it comes with the dyno sheet and is 8.63 horse increase and does she ever sound throaty too honestly deejay sell that thing and get kn its part #57-1529 to fit 02 to 07 4.7l rams you wont be sorry .also i got magnaflow catback on order too and they claim 12 more horse and its part 15740 and fits 4.7 0r 5.9l check it out and yes sir your ram will be rammin

  • where did youi get your headlights from?

  • Look up projector, halo or headlights on ebay with your make and model.

  • How did you installl themm

i didnt know how to install the bottom 5 wiress so CONFusing!

  • @ccdeejay361 The official term to lights like these is "angel eyes"

  • @Computenator Uh, no. It's Halo or projector, get outta here

  • @ccdeejay361 It might just be me, but it doesn't look like it fits properly.

  • @jjwizzle09 MEXICO

  • is that a spectre cold air intake

  • So there is no benefits?

I have heard K&N cold air filters (or what the hell it's named) are good.

    Am I a dumbass too?

And if so, which are the best?

  • that particular one there is none, look at how small the intake tube is and how small the filter is. also, note how there is no heat shield around the filter. that open filter is sucking hot air from the engine, defeating the idea of a cold air intake. look up what a k&n FIPK looks like for this dodge and youll understand.

  • campaug is right. Thats a cheap intake to put on such a nice truck.

  • i agree

  • lol, ya ebay is good for that.

  • i put the same exact one on my 07 hemi ram. i noticed an increase in power and throttle response. nothing huge, but definatly noticible. i do want to switch to a K&N filter on mine tho. K&N filters do not void ANY factory warrenty what so ever. plus the supplied filter is kinda small lol. nice ram. Nick

  • you probally noticed a deacress in power and throttle response, mostly because its sucking more hot air from the engine than cold from the outside of the engine.

  • i agree on the hot air. but "i" drive my truck..it feels better. not a big increase, but an increase... it definatly isnt slower, that youd feel. im in the process of making a seperated section for the filter to sit in anyway. Nick

  • they void gm warranty. the oil from the filter gets stuck on the wires of the MAF sensor and causes erratic engine operation. if you use a synthetic cloth filter that requires no oil, then that filter will not void the warranty.

  • K&N have done extensive testing to prove that the oil issue is a myth and most GM dealers now sell the K&N filters or will allow them in your truck or car

  • not true, i am a gm tech, ill post the tsb if you want? we do not sell k&n filters, we sell the synthetic cotton filters that use no oil. i cant tell you how many times ive had a drive ability concern where i had to clean a maf sensor of air filter oil.

  • i hope that is not a intake from chrome intake or simaliar the microns it lets pass thru scars the cylinder walls and will cause engine failure overtime..as does many others alot of dealerships will void warrenties even if k&n is used AFE is one of the most productive cold airs and true cold air..also you hear the sucking sound it makes well that is it still trying to air so just upgrade filter and will work..

  • oops sorry im a retard thats a short ram air intake sorry my bad

  • its not a cold air intake and its not a ram air intake it still will give you the power boost but not as much as ram air intake or the cold air intake.

  • hahaha god people must not know the idea of a cold or ram system...the way he had it would easily produce the same as a "short ram" if not a tiny bit more because of drawing a little bit more cold air...but K&N quotes the difference between a short ram and a cold air intake on a particular car getting 1.2hp more...but now if your talking about a true ram air system, you might be able to add 5-10(maximium)hp if your lucky...Cold air or not theres relly no difference besides being less restrictive

  • thats not a cold air

  • dude just edit the name on the video..still nice though

  • who cares what kind of set up it is...you notice any power gain?

  • its not a cold air lol he gets warm air from your engine lol

  • hey... thanks... i really dont know much about mechanics... i wish i do... i really like cars... i just dont have no one around me with knowledge... i have a 2.3l ranger... as soon as i get the bucks.. ill hook it up with the filter and exhaust.. magna or flowmaster...ill post a vid... cheers

  • why is it called cold air intake? the diference is just the filter and the arm... or is there any other??

Does this really sound diferent? i mean the motor?

  • As corrected before, I have learned this kit is a short ram intake. I now have a cold ait intake which moves the filter out of the motor bay away from the engines hot air. Any high flow filter I've installed in the past including this one has given a great throttle response & faster take off. My 45+ has also been noticably better. I wouldn't say its helped on gas any though, or maybe every time I fuel up it gets so expensive to notice.

  • @tortugoman shorter version, it gives the engine cold air, cold air = faster

  • EVERYONE IT IS OBVIOUS THIS IS A SHORT RAM INTAKE....No need to repeat yourself.

  • watelse did you do to it?

  • that is not cold air, thats a short ram

  • not a cold air intake its a short ram intake

  • ok i found just the filter bit with no fittings or whatever but could i still attach it to a car????

  • I tried that before on my firebird and it didnt do to well. The closer you are to the engine, the hotter it gets. You could tell a little difference, but not as much as getting it away from the behicle.

  • oh so basically you need a pipe attached to it so its far away from the engine so it doesnt slurp up the hot air?

  • well I have seen a C5 Corvette with 2 high flow filters that had no pipes...and was straight to the intake but im not sure if it will give you anything proformance-wise. I would just try it and see for myself...as long as the filter is secured, it should do any harm to the engine.

  • yeah id probably try it on an old car just incase something happens. filters dont give much extra power anyway, they make noise dont they?

  • Any material is better than a Manufactuer paper filter. You don't have a hardware store that has PVC pipes you can transfer the filter over or down?

  • man i could possible find some rubber pipe from something like an air filter off another car, or easily get pvc pipe

  • pvc pipe releases toxic fumes when heated.

  • shit man ill stick with the rubber pipe then!!!!

  • Thats a short ram intake (SRI) not a Cold Air Intake (CAI)

  • Is that a ChromeIntakes setup? looks like it to me. They have some decent ones, thinking about purchasing a heat shield for the one i ordered for my dakota.

  • Is that an Ebay filter?

You might want to swap it out if it is those dont flow too well =)

  • if you can't figure out how to install something as simple as an intake, maybe you should just stay out from under the hood altogether. something that only requires a screwdriver to install shouldn't be that hard to understand.

  • nice dude, dodge rocks , i have one on my 2000 5.9 , sick

  • lol my dodge would fucking shit on that that

  • Its easy to talk when you have nothing on your page huh? what dodge? a 1982 dodge spirit? Grow up!

  • LOL

  • dude is right...... not a cold air intake.... nice try tho....

  • nice filter and pipe - however you can improve on this by sheilding the filter end from the hot air of the engine bay else you may even degrade performance because its sucking in hot air - look at the Active Autoweke CAI for example how to box in the filter.

  • my K&N came with what your talking about. very useful and fit my old air filters mounting like a breeze.

  • Thanks saw your truck...love the grill. Will post more vids soon!

  • I don't remember a sensor...let me take another vid on my truck and it will show the intake all around...mine may differ from yours due to it being a 3.7 V6... I will post a more detailed vid in an hr.

  • I don't know if you HAVE to take that box before the engine off. The blue tube runs behind the engine to another tube that was connected to the old box. It should fit fight on. Check your intake every 3-6 months, it seems like it slowly slips off unless you tighten the crap out of it.

  • thats not a cold air intake, its a short ram, it breathes the same hot air from the engine bay, the only benefit is the high flow filter

  • how much does it improve the mpg?? i get like 10 so thats the main reason i bought it lol

  • When I put the intake on my father's truck he saw a 1-2 mpg city 2-3 mpg highway improvement. His truck is a 2003 Ram quad cab, 4.7L V8, auto, 2WD.

  • what brand is that? it looks like the one i just bought off ebay

  • lol, if the ebay user was chromeintakes...yes it is the same one. Sounds good and works great. They make custom cold air intakes for most models and have K&N applications.
