  • Many consider Giovanni to be the greatest musician to ever live.

  • There was a time when people considered the cello a fine orchestral instrument and thought it sounded too anemic and coarse for serious solo material, but excellent musicians who fought for it and got the music out to the audience changed that.

  • SO COOL!

  • yes. people can play purpose written concerti for the double bass but that does not make it a solo instrument.

the tone of the thing is too thick and coarse; and when it is of a pitch to be solo it is outside of its best range and combines an anaemic quality to the above,.

I speak as a bass player. I was content to do continuo in baroque ensembles or orchestral playing.

why should a bass try to be what it is not?

it was built to lay the concrete or stone at the bottom of the sound, not this

  • @Strefanasha double bass is very important in the orchestra yes , but you shouldn't limit the bass to that because its tone is so beautiful and the high sounds are marvelous

  • Excelente el Maestro Streicher!! Lo maximo!!!

  • THat was great1

  • The lack of any real dynamic contrast during phrases is sad. Not to mention the high d minor arpeggio in the cadenza was just plan wrong.

trying not to be too harsh, just honesty from what i've heard.

maybe the reason behind the lack of contrast during phrases is microphone placement. whether its streicher playing less musically than is needed in this concerto or whether its a technical issue with microphones, this is still not a great recording.

  • Fantastic! I've seen and heard Mr. Streicher perform live in New York many years back. Great to have the music without the page turner!

  • one of the most amazing concerts for doublebass ever!

  • on another note, Streicher's legato on this is buttery smooth...damn. Something to aspire to I guess. :)

  • this channel is AMAZING! Especially if you are working on one of the pieces in question.
