@kev3145 hell yeah!!! i actually want to become an industrial designer, mainly a car designer. I first looked at architect because thats what there is in my country, or else i can go abroad in the expensive schools of the USA.
@Weblas1 not every major is fit for every one. nothing to feel sad about bc i was also there. if you're still at a pause, i suggest "Architect? A Candid Guide to the Profession" by Roger Lewis. if you're absolutely positive about arch., i'd get a head-start by reading arch. text books. "Architecture Form, Space, and Order" by Francis D.K. Ching is a great start on Amazon.
@Weblas1 funny. i got recommended by my arch.teacher to go for engineering. i always ponder why since i've never got an answer. architects don't make a lot of money. don't be fooled into thinking otherwise. senior year of high school we had a meeting and everyone told me architects make a lot. i was excited until i learned it's a fairy tale.
but if you want to be an architect, i'm not stopping you. i'm also studying archi.
Ahh! I wanted to be an architect ever since I was in kindergarten! haha True story! ;) But ever since I saw how little they get paid, I got really dissapointed! :/
They missed out the part where you die a little bit on the inside after receiving your paycheck and you notice that after 10 years of training, you earn less than a janitor or a McDonalds employee. Find another career kids, architecture is full of disappointment and you will never be rich.
Is it possible to be an architect and not doing any design at all? I know that you will first need to do draft drawing working but is it possible to later do design work without having your own firm?
An Architect is all about designing and all the work that goes into designing. It's like saying can someone be a lawyer without representing someone or going to court? What's the point of becoming an Architect if you don't want to design?
@DJLCHero69 nono.you got me all wrong. I actually DO want to design but i'm scared that i may be forced to do only draft drawings or boring office jobs. I heard that there are architects that don't design and that's what bothers me
I am going to school for architecture. So if I am correct you have to go through a bunch of stuff. A lot of tests and school years and internships before you become a "Licensed Architect" Then you work on up.. I think the Architects that don't design would be like Chief Architects.. The ones who own the firms.. Correct me if I'm wrong..
@DJLCHero69 It takes 6 years of college trough which you will wish you were never born and then you have to work under other architect`s supervision for a number of years(I don`t know where are you from to tell but in my country it`s 4 years) and only after that you are a licenced architect. Hope that cheers you up:))
im studying to become one right now the drawing is relaxing anf kind of fun so if you have a good imagination, a good artist, and somwhat good at computers this job is good for you
Besides Architects, Interior Designers also deal with all of what is mentioned in this video, except for the structural aspect of the building which is entirely designed and supervised by architects and engineers. The trend is that architects and interior designers (not decorators) are working together to complement each others' work and knowledge with great results.
don't be fooled, you'll be stuck sitting in front of the computer drafting ... unless that's what you want to do ... less than 2 % of your time spent in the office are doing design if you're lucky ... the rest of the time are spent doing changes after changes ... it's not worth it, you're better off as an artist.
architects don't need to draw anymore, as long as you know how to draft with the computer, your drawings / ideas won't be taken seriously, not even if you were the last architect on earth.
architecture in the 'real' life is exactly just another business ... so what I was saying is that if anyone thinking they can get a chance to design then this will be a real shock for them when they graduate, just like I did.
..well i wana design....like interior....exterior... or logos...slogans... advertisements...airplanes.... or cars...clothing...roller coaster.....or my other passion accounting/business law..
If you want to design, I suggest you do it as a hobby, since most 'design' profession don't make as much as other business-type jobs ... then if you make enough money working business jobs, you can start your own company and design anything you'd like ...
you give out awesome advice.... :D ..... I just ...yeah..i'm going to get out of high school and after high school..its like ..where do I go from here...so I want to get at least some possible ideas...using my interests...of what careers would suit my interests.... so thank you :D
@davidhalifax stop listening to these idiots. Architects can be businessmen and are the most qualified professionals to be Real estate Developers and Contractors since Architects are schooled in 4 Engineering disciplines aside from Architecture. Majority of those Real Estate Developers and Contractors are actually Architect wannabes who didn't make Architecture school.
@101ers77 ... I agree with you about Real Estate Develeopers being wannabe architrects. That's why it's evern more upsetting since these developers don't have a formal traning (but they think they do), and they are the ones making most of the design decisions as refered to a 'client' ... which explains all of the crappy buildings we have in North America ... it's sad that this profession works the other way around if you want to make enough money and be successful.
I think I'll just stick to drawing my cool pictures. All these architecture videos are pretty discouraging.
