Isn't there a serious moral dilemma here? I mean, 1) we could potentially live forever (excluding any catastrophic events external to the body), which would result in 2) Having to set a limit on how many humans will be allowed to live (due to our limited number of resources). More importantly, who exactly will be receive this "immorality treatment"? It seems as if this could result in wealthier humans having access to immortality whereas the poorer humans would still be subject to death.
@TheGeisapleas Other kinds of research into improving life. I'd say increasing cognitive capacity and working in neurobiology to make humans smarter across the board would be a good start - that is, if necessity doesn't dictate more effort be directed immediately towards realistic solutions to the socioeconomic problems which would arise if humans are truly to live eternally.
Then sometimes I don't mind getting older because I don't want to live forever unlike I lot of people who do, but hey that's just me, I think 90-100 years of living is long enough. Please don't hate me people for saying this please don't, it is just how I feel about life.... I think maybe when I am older I will change my mind but life just seems to drag on having to pay bills etc etc never ending battle.
Hey I don't want to live forever. I am 22 years old I embrace aging I think it is cool. Vampires never change or grow older how boring. As I get older I experience new things that I didn't when I was younger in my teenage years. Trust me my auntie in law her dad just before he died at the age of 96 he said if there is a life after this one I don't mind I have lived a good life and I'm ready to go. Good on him. People on youtube embrace aging don't complain about it enjoy it!
@gjonb1: Is that another reason to allow children to starve to death so we don't overpopulate the planet? Wow! Such narrow mindedness, oh, excuse me, I think it's more selfishness so you don't have to share the world with the population explosion from stopping death...let em all die, ay?
The only way this could work is everything else were increased too, so aubrey is lacking insight here. If youth is increased then conciousness, intelligence, recources, ideas, space and whatever else I left out will all need to be increased to deal with all the people that create a pull on our physical existence. Upping one are and not another creates a disproportianate existence that will just be rearanged. Rearanged in that if age doesnt hurt you then something from all the extra people will.
god doesn't exist and religion is one of worst thing of humanity which slowed its progresses. anyone with a bit of brain know this. But let's admit for total absurdity that your so loved "god" DOES exist... then OR he is happy for us defeating ageing OR he can go to fuck off and try to stop us if he can... :)
If modern medicine continues the way it's going eventually 90%+ of the population will suffer a considerable period of dementia before death. A horrible fate. Of course when the % of people suffering senile dementia increases eventually the required effort will be put into defeating ageing. It's a pity most people seem closed-minded to the point where they are incapable of anticipating future problems and avoiding all this suffering......
Update: I saw a video. Scientists are making a chemical that would prevent cells from degenerating. NO joke. I will post a link to the video if I can. It is estimated to be finished by the next decade.
Considering numerous advancements in scientific fields I am able to deduce that the probability of something like this being discovered is surprisingly pretty high. Also to all you guys who are talking about creationism and all that you are technically off topic. This is a biological topic. In other words a Science. I am a Christian myself but this is not the place to be talking about that stuff and you should discuss it elsewhere.
Connection of electromagnetic frequencies to the minerals and other substances in the body, particularly DNA, are what constitute the major force of cohesion. It should come as no suprise that the Sun plays a dominant role in sustaining youth--the Sun is responsible for all life on Earth. Atomic connections to electromagnetic frequencies provide stablity along the DNA ladder, creating a constriction in the DNA molcule. This manifests as definition, tightness, and density...
If you want to envision how the antennae work, consider a TV set--- if the antenna is functioning properly it receives radio signals efficiently. If the antenna is damaged, reception will be reduced, if the antenna is broken, the TV will not have reception at all....
Evidence of the positive effect of sunlight on DNA is found in the reproductive cells, sunlight stimulates fertility. If the cells did not age and received regular doses of sunlight it would have a very positive impact.
Do you want a healthy antenna? The answer is,"Yes!". When all segments of the DNA are vibrating in accord they are stable and cohesive. Cells are then healthy, as long as they receive adequate vitamin and mineral deposits. Increased oxygen flow should result from the salubrious effects of telomerase.
Thus, aging partially results due to a disconnect with electromagnetic energies, especially sunlight. When the Antennae are damaged not as much energy is transmitted along the DNA, and the damaged antennae are not able to facilitate the process of absorbing electromagnetic frequencies. This is what causes the degradation. People who are younger generally have a stronger link to electromagnetic energies in their bodies.
I have a speculation, that the telomeres are a form of antenna that pick up electromagnetic energy from various sources and help to distribute that energy along the DNA.The electromagnetic energies help to maintain a robust DNA structure. When the antenna begins to degrade, the entire DNA construct begins to decay. The electromagnetsim is connected to the DNA at the subatomic level. One primary source of electromagnetic energy is from SUNLIGHT, and this is one of the great sustainers of life.
I am all for living longer with great health but I still want to look young with out going under the blade. Here is a Question for you. Can a 70 year old be made to look like a 20 year old again.
It has to do with the collagen fibers in the skin, and they are subjet co rejevenation. It's not any harder to rejevenate the skin than it is to rejuvenate any of the other things he discusses. The process wouldn't happen overnight, but the damage didn't happen overnight either.
That's enough of the Bible talk.... It is engraved in our genome and in all living organisms in this planet the will to survive. To negate one the right to live is consider the greatest evil. Aging is going to be resolved, it's just a shame that more people don't see it's importance the way Aubrey does, else it would happen much sooner.
@neoaeonian There aren't many religous fanatics fighting this. However if people were not religous this would problably be much more popular than it actually is.
one of the biggest limitations is religous fanatics constantly saying "aging will never happen, for god would never allow it. besides... i wanna go to heaven"
and 99% of these people have very little or absolutely no idea what the hell is aging! ignorance and self limitations is the only shit that keeps us from succeding. the fear of failure is what causes one to fail... If you really believe aging is curable and try to cure it. i believe within a few decades or less u will succeed.
I believe if we try we can accomplish anything including external life. Through technology we can do anything we are only limited by ourselves. If you value your life you would want to live forever.
The problem of overpopulation would be another problem. But, what is life? Accepting challenges and try to solve them. If Aubrey de Grey is succesful there will be a new thing that will make our lifes better and more comfortable. Nobody would be obliged to receive these therapies if he doesn't want to. If life is so boring for him, he would be free to reject these therapies and get old and die, or not to continue the treatment if he had begin it when he saw life is too long for him.
Overpopulation doesn't come from not dying, it comes from people having children then not insuring their successful education to become productive adults. I agree with everything else that you say. People who act responsible, there't plenty of room for them.
If you think population is going to be a problem, consider that the birthrate vs. the death rate can be changed to an increasing addition problem. If you take out the death rate, the population won't actually grow much faster. People are being born faster than people are dying by quite a bit.
please make it happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The insurance companies wont be so happy if this happens they will lose money BIG TIME!!! BUT WHO CARES THEY GOT TO MUCH POWER ALREADY!!!! GO AUBREY!!!!!!
Insurance companies won't lose money big time. What they lose on annuties they'll make up in life insurance.
Insurance is a very necessary business, (where we pay an acceptable loss in statistically overpaid premiums, to avoid an unacceptable loss)
But ending aging doesn't radically change things overnight. It takes time for technologies to reach their full effect on society, and the effect will be so overwhelmingly positive that islands of negativity will be minor
well from the things ive heard, yes they can almost completely stop the aging process, they havent tested it due to the possibilities of cancer. and why would we want to do that anyway? the earth is crowded enough. nobodys gonna stop having kids because the government said so. people live long enough. and even if they do release something like this to the public, how much are you gonna pay for it...? people will pay way too much for thier lives when in theory, the human was meant to die.
If someone has relative questions to Aubrey de Gray, there will be an interview in 24.5 hours imminst point gro (reversed) meetings (check time there)
You think that's the best one? How about space elevators and an orbital ring colony? Then with those, we can carry massive amounts of cargo and people into space, thus making us able to create massive space vehicles that run on something like ion thrusters that keep going for years, which can be used to make more space elevators on other bodies with rotation.
It's gonna be amazing and because of anti aging, at least me or my to be born kids will experience it all. Long live everyone!
but something like 80% of everyone in industrial nations dont think or have no idea that this will be happening anytime soon =/
but it is in under 40 years, when the space elevators come out, people will begine to realize that we can hold alot more people... the fear that cureing aging will overpopulation will be lost.
this will happen when the first space elevator is built probly 2025 or 2030
I don't want immortality. I just want to live for a REALLY REALLY long time. I want to live long enough to see humanity reach what I'd consider a peak in its potential. Then I'll commit suicide in some spectacular way, like flying into a star or something.
Just imagine when everyone's a history book... When you've met admired people who've been dead for thousands of years, sort of like the last lady to meet van Gough died in 1997 at 122 y 54 d.
i freaking love life... i like being with the ppl and bitches i love and sht. i wanna continue to paint and do all the other great stuff that i will never grow tired of doing.
i wanna live long enough to see future of humanity and interstelar travel and see if in 30 billion years will we escape into another univiorse after ours dies.
blah blah blah, respect, but this is all noise. all we need is brain-transplants made possible and cloning made legal, of course we will simply need to get around having the clones conscious, and that would be easy today. only single challenge, is brain-transplant, which would be 12 cranial nerves on either side, plus the spine. Many of these has already been done, all we need is a bit more funding of the fine tuning of the tech, and ergo u go from 87yo rag, to 17 yo well-edu, rich, porn slut :)
k perhaps i was not formal enough about that post, but think about it, really, is it that difficult to reconnect an intentionally split spine?
Another method would be partial brain-transplants, already done in other mammals could be another alternative for human beings. Transplanting ~80% of the brain, and especially the parts which function for sentience and memory.
Artificial wombs for clones have also already been made, but in different experiments, as it is illegal to grow a child past 14d
Actually clones aren't even necessary. The only things necessary is an artificial womb (google it) and an embryo. Next step is to grow and support the fetus all the way into a teen body. we also need to make sure that it never becomes concsious(because if it did it would be a person). Then when it is grown enough, carry on with the brain transplant.
1. cell loss 2. death resistant cells (that overstay their welcome) 3. nuclear DNA mutations 4. mitochondrial DNA mutations 5. intracellular junk 6. extracellular junk 7. extracellular crosslinks (which link together molecules that should be kept separated)
The Biggest POINT:
Genesis 6 3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
The Bible clearly shows the fact that your the JACKASS, and my statement is fact.
Try reading the bible first, completely, in an honest intent to understand exactly what it says instead of coming here and wasting peoples time which you don't value.
I'm standing on the fact that I have integrity in my post and you have no honor to self or to others by your stupid attitude of lustful worship.
Go to hell or not, it's makes no matter to me, I only love those that love the truth.
I wanted you to give me a concrete reason, where is it? Look I'm sorry you've been brainwashed, one day you're gonna realise that there is no god. Jesus was just another pagan god, Moses was probably "high" when he was up on that mountain, Noah derives from a Sumerian fairytale, we were never created, we "evolved", we are not the universe's only inhabitants and therefore god's claim that he created "mankind" and "mankind" alone is fictitious. The Bible was written by men not by the gods, sorry.
You can not support you position, Like exactly as expected. I will not waste my time showing you proof, live a sinful life and die and receive just compensation of eternal death for your stupidity.
Next time you come to me with anything - Have proof and be willing to back it up with substance instead of your imaginary hot air.
LIES?? "judge not lest ye be judged" direct quote "love thy enemy"direct quote anyone who would think himself great enough to correctly judge others is already not qualified for it by that thought! you presume far too much both about me and yourself.open your heart to others and show love lest your attitude blind you to the greatness of not only people but god himself
not in this world the modern world i would love it if everyone believed in jesus but you cant force it down peoples throat otherwise they will just end up resenting it.teaching the bible is fine forcing onto people is not
dude seriously, no one here(i hope) gives two shts about your faith nor Genesis nor any other book and you are not going to change anyone's minds here.
Unlike you, when i was introduced to religion i saw the bullshit in it right away. Seriously, what where you smoking that led you to believe that there is an invisible man in the sky? must have been something strong.
I would say 99% of people dont understand the religons they beleive in. the fools, both fight over the literal meanings. theres a reason many are writin in parables, and symbolic meanings, so they are only understood by serious people, and so they can't be corrupted.
I have found that when people talk to me about religion and they point to a certain scripture they seem to not read the deeper meaning and just take it a face value.
pretty sure you dont need to be holy to be whole just need to be honest with yourself and others and put in a full effort in what ever you are doing.
If you want to support Aubrey and one of his projects called "Undergrads fighting age related disease" then go to " membersproject. com/project/view/BVVE2C " (take out the gaps)
You can SLOW DOWN those SEVEN DEADLY CAUSES of Aging by drastically cutting your caloric intake. And the few calories you DO take in must be HIGHLY nutritious. You don't want to waste any calories.
This will buy you some time until real anti-aging technologies come around in the next 10-15 years... ie stem cell and gene therapy.
Most biogloist agree that aging is an unfortunate biproduct of the very same mechanisms that cause benifitial development.
There is no evidence presented that the 7 listed here are the cause of aging. Why not start by finding the cause? Why not start with peer reviewed publications? Why go direct to the public for funding?
We need not understand all there is to know about aging in order to stop it. The causes of aging are impossible to determine, aging being a bi-product of our intensely complicated metabolism.
However, the seven things listed are not the causes, but rather the effects of aging. Fix them and you restore the body to youthfulness. It will still continue to age, as the causes of aging will remain, but so long as you periodically fix the damage (say once every ten years) you will remain youthful.
Not necessarily. Our metabolism is but one of many causes for the aging process. Consider the 7 listed causes that Dr. Aubrey de Grey outlines/explains in this video. Suggesting in theoretical terms, if one is able to distinctively prevent and repair all several problems (listed in the video) to a certain degree, one could live a lot longer than usual.
Your correct, although, you forget that these are the several MAIN causes for aging (proven causes through medical and scientifically illustrated observations and years of experience by professionals); based on our knowledge thus far. Theoretically, one can repair the damages to the human body by simply using future technologies and medications.
yeah those people maimed already dying of 14 different illnesses not to mention the deseases putting them in constant agony for the rest of thier lives but its illegal to put them out of their misery, illegal to give them what they want because inkstersco says so.
maybe but at them moment degenerative(sp) desease have no cure and veryt little treatment... and you want to force each and everyone of them to suffer.
>how is it possible to rejuvinate? at this time with our technology?
Well the man in the video has written a colossal amount on that question(but he's talking about a project reaching into the near future, not right now). Wiki Aubrey de Grey. It's all a matter of tissue repair(aging is not centrally a macroscopic process).
Euthenasia for whom? Where? Why? Since when? What are you talking about? The method of extending life is to *undo* aging. There's no especial call for euthenasia in this case, nor lately either.
Any of it in peer reviewed journals? Why does he have to go to the public for funds, what about the NIH, NIS? Is there any concense that these 7 listed are the causes of aging (answer NO!!).
Isn't there a serious moral dilemma here? I mean, 1) we could potentially live forever (excluding any catastrophic events external to the body), which would result in 2) Having to set a limit on how many humans will be allowed to live (due to our limited number of resources). The problem of overpopulation would be another problem. But, what is life? Accepting challenges and try to solve them. If Aubrey de Grey is succesful there will be a new thing that will make our lifes better and more comfortable. Nobody would be obliged to receive these therapies if he doesn't want to. If life is so boring for him, he would be free to reject these therapies and get old and die, or not to continue the treatment if he had begin it when he saw life is too long for him.
joulukk 2 years ago
Overpopulation doesn't come from not dying, it comes from people having children then not insuring their successful education to become productive adults. I agree with everything else that you say. People who act responsible, there't plenty of room for them.

If you think population is going to be a problem, consider that the birthrate vs. the death rate can be changed to an increasing addition problem. If you take out the death rate, the population won't actually grow much faster. People are being born faster than people are dying by quite a bit.

It takes time for technologies to reach their full effect on society, and the effect will be so overwhelmingly positive that islands of negativity will be minor
neoaeonian 2 years ago
well from the things ive heard, yes they can almost completely stop the aging process, they havent tested it due to the possibilities of cancer. and why would we want to do that anyway? the earth is crowded enough. nobodys gonna stop having kids because the government said so. people live long enough. and even if they do release something like this to the public, how much are you gonna pay for it...? people will pay way too much for thier lives when in theory, the human was meant to die.

if we can get all large cities to have buildings like this. we can have 14 billion people on earth and have it not crouded AT ALL
cpisretartedmuch 2 years ago
You think that's the best one? How about space elevators and an orbital ring colony? Then with those, we can carry massive amounts of cargo and people into space, thus making us able to create massive space vehicles that run on something like ion thrusters that keep going for years, which can be used to make more space elevators on other bodies with rotation.
It's gonna be amazing and because of anti aging, at least me or my to be born kids will experience it all. Long live everyone!
hellomate639 2 years ago
yep
but something like 80% of everyone in industrial nations dont think or have no idea that this will be happening anytime soon =/
but it is in under 40 years, when the space elevators come out, people will begine to realize that we can hold alot more people... the fear that cureing aging will overpopulation will be lost.
this will happen when the first space elevator is built probly 2025 or 2030

I don't want immortality. I just want to live for a REALLY REALLY long time. I want to live long enough to see humanity reach what I'd consider a peak in its potential. Then I'll commit suicide in some spectacular way, like flying into a star or something.
Just imagine when everyone's a history book... When you've met admired people who've been dead for thousands of years, sort of like the last lady to meet van Gough died in 1997 at 122 y 54 d.

i wanna live long enough to see future of humanity and interstelar travel and see if in 30 billion years will we escape into another univiorse after ours dies.
cpisretartedmuch 2 years ago 3
Hey! I was thinking the same thing. Who said it has to take 30 billion years to get there? We might do it in under 100k...
hellomate639 2 years ago 3
the big rip will happen between 20-50 billion years o.o
cpisretartedmuch 2 years ago
Big rip is not really the theory anymore. Now we just think that in billions of trillions of years, we'll just run out of energy... But only here...
And if we cannot get to another universe, then we can just sit back and die of freezing to death at absolute zero.
hellomate639 2 years ago
well there is a theory
that by consentrating the highest possible temeratures into 1 tiny spot in space like 10^27 degrees
u can make time and space unstable and rip it open
it is said maybe in the comming billions of years we will gain this power... i think it could be possible =/
cpisretartedmuch 2 years ago
you would have to figure out a way to harness the power tho.
maybe u can take the power from an exploding star since the energy needed is equivilent to a stars power.

blah blah blah, respect, but this is all noise. all we need is brain-transplants made possible and cloning made legal, of course we will simply need to get around having the clones conscious, and that would be easy today. only single challenge, is brain-transplant, which would be 12 cranial nerves on either side, plus the spine. Many of these has already been done, all we need is a bit more funding of the fine tuning of the tech, and ergo u go from 87yo rag, to 17 yo well-edu, rich, porn slut :)
simplybornhuman 3 years ago
k perhaps i was not formal enough about that post, but think about it, really, is it that difficult to reconnect an intentionally split spine?
Another method would be partial brain-transplants, already done in other mammals could be another alternative for human beings. Transplanting ~80% of the brain, and especially the parts which function for sentience and memory.
Artificial wombs for clones have also already been made, but in different experiments, as it is illegal to grow a child past 14d
simplybornhuman 3 years ago
Actually clones aren't even necessary. The only things necessary is an artificial womb (google it) and an embryo. Next step is to grow and support the fetus all the way into a teen body. we also need to make sure that it never becomes concsious(because if it did it would be a person). Then when it is grown enough, carry on with the brain transplant.

Go to hell or not, it's makes no matter to me, I only love those that love the truth.
Cabanas751Dunhill 2 years ago
I wanted you to give me a concrete reason, where is it? Look I'm sorry you've been brainwashed, one day you're gonna realise that there is no god. Jesus was just another pagan god, Moses was probably "high" when he was up on that mountain, Noah derives from a Sumerian fairytale, we were never created, we "evolved", we are not the universe's only inhabitants and therefore god's claim that he created "mankind" and "mankind" alone is fictitious. The Bible was written by men not by the gods, sorry.
neodreamin 2 years ago
You can not support you position, Like exactly as expected. I will not waste my time showing you proof, live a sinful life and die and receive just compensation of eternal death for your stupidity.
Next time you come to me with anything - Have proof and be willing to back it up with substance instead of your imaginary hot air.

the bible is wayyy outdated piece of infomation.
creationism has been disproven. the "6000 year old earth" theory has been disprovened.
however i do not believe the idea of " god " is bad.
if there was a god, he/she would want us to be as happy as possible and at the same time protect our home, the earth.
ending aging won't do harm to the envirorment, for there are other things we can do about overpopulation then just let ppl die off.
ending aging would reduce suffering.

one tip, Holy = whole. most people are half. ;-)

Why go direct to the public for funding?
stevekap8 3 years ago
We need not understand all there is to know about aging in order to stop it. The causes of aging are impossible to determine, aging being a bi-product of our intensely complicated metabolism.
However, the seven things listed are not the causes, but rather the effects of aging. Fix them and you restore the body to youthfulness. It will still continue to age, as the causes of aging will remain, but so long as you periodically fix the damage (say once every ten years) you will remain youthful.
RoboDouche 3 years ago 2
There is the string at the end of our DNA that shortens everytime the cells reproduce which is pretty much the clock of aging.
Maybe we should look into that?
KarinMikazuki 3 years ago
Is it telomeres you speak of? I believe that scientists can guess your age within about 2 1/2 years by looking at the length of your telomeres.
lonewolf333 3 years ago
Not necessarily. Our metabolism is but one of many causes for the aging process. Consider the 7 listed causes that Dr. Aubrey de Grey outlines/explains in this video. Suggesting in theoretical terms, if one is able to distinctively prevent and repair all several problems (listed in the video) to a certain degree, one could live a lot longer than usual.
EverlastingWings 3 years ago
Your correct, although, you forget that these are the several MAIN causes for aging (proven causes through medical and scientifically illustrated observations and years of experience by professionals); based on our knowledge thus far. Theoretically, one can repair the damages to the human body by simply using future technologies and medications.

On the contrary. It's about saving lives. Saving lives means allowing someone to live healthily for longer than they would otherwise have lived.
Forced death is wrong, period. Living to 1xxx years isn't the issue.
Moreover, SENS depends of philanthropic funding because world governments refuse to fund rejuvation specifically.

Nope. Tithonus error. IOW strawman.

dead2thewind 3 years ago
>how is it possible to rejuvinate? at this time with our technology?
Well the man in the video has written a colossal amount on that question(but he's talking about a project reaching into the near future, not right now). Wiki Aubrey de Grey. It's all a matter of tissue repair(aging is not centrally a macroscopic process).
inkstersco 3 years ago
there you have it, not right now so why not allow euthanasia now and be humain and abolish it "in the near future"
dead2thewind 3 years ago
Euthenasia for whom? Where? Why? Since when? What are you talking about? The method of extending life is to *undo* aging. There's no especial call for euthenasia in this case, nor lately either.

Any of it in peer reviewed journals? Why does he have to go to the public for funds, what about the NIH, NIS? Is there any concense that these 7 listed are the causes of aging (answer NO!!).
stevekap8 3 years ago
>Any of it in peer reviewed journals?
Very much so. But remember, SENS is agenda, not theory.
>Why does he have to go to the public for >funds?
Because governments refuse to recognise aging as a target for medical intervention.
>Is there any concense that these 7 listed >are the causes of aging
Yes, because the list is of all the things that *might* matter within a normal lifetime. The dispute is over whether they all matter.
