U.S.A has thousands of Nuclear weapons (ageing ones i might add), they are clunky and useless in most tactical situations, especially if you want to occupy the territory you nuked. The fallout can drop on your own city and can have messy consequences politically and demographically (ie: bomb both good and bad people). Iran would be stupid to invest in a bomb. They are expensive to make and maintain and have a shelf life of 8-10 years. They'll have to keep it primed for short notice.
