Prevent weeds altogether by installing a bucket garden. The Garden Master has perfected this method by years of experience including a 40 acre farm of organic vegetables. Check out The Garden Master on youtube.
Use the Lunge and Weed Stance and Technique - Get Fit Through Gardening - See the videos on YouTube. What a difference proper gardening stance and technique make. No more sore back, No more sore muscles. Cobra head is OK, but the AM Leonard Forged Handy Weeder (long handle) is better. Long thin hoes and stirrup hoe is excellent but it should show the Stance Gardening Technique. - Get Fit Through Gardening.
Like faithlocket said, keep your hoe sharp, a dull hoe does nothing except make your back sore..
Also, make sure to rake up all of the weeds! They will take root if you don't. Put the weeds into a bucket, fill it with water and let it sit overnight, use that water to water your plants..they will love it!
