  • Just love Don Pardo's voice (intro) and Belushi...he's one of a kind. Glad I didn't ask him to slice the sandwich...LOL

  • Yes, there was a time when SNL was actually FUNNY! This is is - the Golden Years. Not to mention they were all high as SH*T while doing these!!

  • why are the snl audience so quiet they dont always laugh loud enough

  • Better than subway.

  • 3:26 me everyday at work

  • Comment removed

  • Back when SNL was actually funny!

  • Now THIS SNL is funny!

  • Gosh, Belushi was really handy with that sword!! And his grunts were fabulous, too. Buck Henry provides a nice straight man to contrast with the rants of the Belush.

  • Omg 666 Likes!

  • YOLO

  • SHAMFUR DISPRAY

  • jim was a better actor and smarter for not doing drugs

  • @batmanrock33

Jim better then john? man...either you are trollin or you're crazy!

  • I love this! :)

  • A friend of mine did a riff on this back in the day as Samurai Newspaper Reporter, thrusting his sword through a mockup computer screen. Good shit.

  • does anybody have the Stockbrocker one?

  • I saw this when I was a little kid and (I'm 43 now). I thought it was funny then, still funny in 2011.

BTW all the haters who keep saying this is unfunny---GTFO here! Go watch some lame Adam Sander or Will Farrell skit.

SNL in the 1970s was the original!

  • @Lalo3001 yep yep!

  • I remember when this aired . Hate to say it its still stupid!!! Nothing funny at all about this.

  • @valkour22 Then why are you commenting on this if you don't appreciate John Belushi??? Go watch Adam Sandler or Will Farrell or whomever you think is funny.

  • @Lalo3001 cause for so stupid reason I was directed here. I seen this episode when it air and it shows no talent just a stupid fat guy . We always hated Jons bits. He was the worst of al the prime time players!!!

  • Like your mother

  • it sucked

  • Rest in peace John

  • He's Jhon, Jame's bro' ...

  • I'm gonna go headbutt a loaf of bread

  • l'm goin for Dallas, l think Staubach has really had a good year.

  • @Riverfishify then go watch some stupid dane cook video if you don't like it. dumb fuck.

  • @Riverfishify douchebag

  • OMFG i laughed my A off when he smashed the bread up against his head.

  • I would love to go to a deli and see someone do this.

  • I worked in an actual deli in Virginia. I don't think my old boss would have hired him but John Belushi played this part well

  • I have an old VHS 180 minute tape from early 90's with Gilda Rodner, James and John Belushi, Dan Akroyd, Chevy Chase, Rick Moranis, Bill Murray and others.

Bill Murray as Hercules or Superman, Heinz and Franz workout, Rodney Dangerfield as sperm donor and many more.

So far I don't have VHS device, but I have to convert that tape and we will have fun.

  • He spreads thousand island dressing like a boss.

  • sandwich meat cutter sword technique...

  • What blows my mind about this bit is the cut tomato and the scabbard work. If you guys don't get this, get really smashed on coke one night and try to copy this bit. Belushi seriously must have jammed tons of hours into this bit.

  • JON LIVES.

  • Where's the funny part?

  • poop

  • Lol. Belushi was the best!!!

  • Take a number please...

  • We had a deli back in these days, so we would mimic John sometimes to entertain our customers.

  • Perfection!

  • @Wanderer32 Not only that but there's no MADTv as back up... :(

  • Gallagher saw this skit and thought... "Sledge-O-Matic"

  • Belushi did the best samurai ever!

  • he forgot the cream soda

  • died from drugs...jeez what a waste. guess people will always do dumb ass shit.

  • @usaeagle1776 While it was a loss of a comedic talent, those who knew him who were also on drugs learned from this, quit, and thus live to this day. Of course I really wish that it hadn't taken his death to teach such a lesson.

  • @maikerugo :well, that is good they learned. too bad you have learn from a death. Supposedly, humans are intelligent and that the route to knowing something like this has to be that someone has to die. Pathetic.

  • Epic tomato.....

  • I believe this was 1977, not 1975.

  • obviously very talented, but was unfair to the women of SNL

  • That wasnt racist...

  • This is when SNL was at it's best...

  • John Belushi has this way of making me feel all warm inside... <3

    Bless his heart!

  • Here we go steelers here we go..

  • can u break a 20

    DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • I LOVE how he puts his sword back in the holder and like 2 seconds later he gets it back out, lmfao. Belushi was the best!

  • This is great stuff, but it only reminds me of how much SNL has gone downhill lately

  • the best! the BEST!

Just like the first time watching it what, 34 years ago? My my, time flies!

  • @1greatdude ...and we would go mad if time didn't pass and if we didn't end.

  • is it weird that watching this makes me hungrey?

  • It's weird, I watched the SNL with John when I was 14, and then I discovered Yojimbo by Akira Kurosawa and realized just how many mannerisms John borrowed from Toshiro Mifune that they can almost become indistinguishable.

  • R.I.P John Belushi

  • Samurai Delicatessan > Subway

  • This was definitely b4 HD was born WTF? Mad blurry Yo

  • Look at 1:05 and think about the risks they took on live, national TV. The sword is REAL, and sharp enough to cut salami!!

  • Why do you get Away with SNL and i don't..I tried to put a 44second clip on here, And the Assholes wouldn't do it..Any HINTS with Copyright IINfrigment?

  • @BarryPuppetSoetoro61 Try this:

Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976,

allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism,

comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.

Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might

    otherwise be infringing.

Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use

    or

~ I would record it directly from my tv screen in an average quality to see if I can avoid "infringement"

  • I haven't laughed that hard watching a TV show for a long, long time now. Thanks for posting this.

  • @Nguli34689 I'm italian, and I never laughed that hard in my 25 years of life... yes here tv is worse than shit

  • @LORENZ1086 what does being italian have to do with john belushi?

  • @andrewstack5236

Unfortunately in Italy we will never have some kind of genious comedian like him, probably only Benigni... Try googleing italian SNL (yes we have 1)... Trash tv, nothing to dom with akroyd, belushi, chase and the pthers

  • @LORENZ1086 John's father and mother immigrated from albaina not italy

  • @LORENZ1086 In Brazil, every once in a while it appears some comedian that:

1-begins really funny and doing something original, or clever, of both(sometimes they apear on the internet)

2-at the moment he begin being famous he also begin doing always the same joke(wich is usually when he goes to tv)

3-than really fast he turns to be so bad that you forget how good he was before

  • @LORENZ1086 he is not italian (if thats what you think, could not comprehend you rcomment) he is albanian

  • @LORENZ1086 where in Italy? I'm in Sigonella, Sicily

  • @LORENZ1086 John belushi is albanian bro :D

  • @andrewstack5236 Don't know, he was Albanian.

  • @andrewstack5236 Jim belushi is italian also?

  • @intuitioninstitution Hes Albanian not Italian.

  • @LORENZ1086 ...needs different leadership

  • original cast is still the best!

  • 6 people got coke

  • @CRANKTHATFIZZLE hahahahaha

  • lol i used to love this as a kid.

  • If Subway made sandwiches like that I'd go there more often.

  • still lol

  • Belushi is sorely missed. Candy, Hartman, Farley all talented and cursed from SNL.

there once was a skit where Belushi played the last living member who in recollection of his colleagues danced on their graves. Eerie and poignant.

  • @scottmanduzy Agree with you but Candy was never a member of SNL.

  • that's what coke does to you

  • @tommybshr no coke pepsi!

  • OMG. John Belushi was actually skinny in the 70s

  • Genius!

  • lol he almost committed Seppuku because of the fat...hahaha

  • We were in the Deli Business from 1975 till 1994, Still our favorite skit of all time

  • I so loveeeeeeeeee Belushi! What a guy! Wish I knew him.

  • 4 people are comedy haters

  • 0:25 just plain funny

    0:35 stupid

    0:57 very funny

    1:25 epic

    2:36 too funny

    3:25 PRICELESS!!!

  • @alecbama1 I agree but you forgot 2:04 the tomato part

  • Love you John! You fucking rocked buddy.

  • i just saw this on snl best of john belushi like 30 min ago funiest thing ever this and the cheese burger cheese burger cheese burger one

  • you have him doing sanjay gandhi and larraine doing indira? the indian election skit. "Oh mommy. we only lost by a few hundred million votes" lol

  • John was the greatest. I will dig him to the end of my days.

  • I remember the one sketch where John was swinging the sword and accidently cut Buck over the eye.

  • happy birthday john r.i.p

  • the original snl was so much funnyer then it is now

  • when snl was funny lol

  • The great dramatic-comedy writer, Buck Henry plays the customer. He wrote the screenplay to "The Graduate", "Catch--22" and was generally awesome.

  • im so hungry nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  • I LOVE 1:18 YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HA! XD

  • Cathy Evelyn Smith was a backup singer in a band for many years. She went on to be a rock stars girlfriend to a groupie and eventually drug dealer who was convicted of manslaughter of the drug overdose of movie star John Belushi in 1982. Cathy was paid by “National Enquirer” for her story in which she states that she injected John with the fatal overdose of 11 speed balls. Speed balls are heroin and cocaine mixed together.

  • Does anyone have the Saturday Night Live with Milton Berle hosting??????

  • SNL hasn't been the same with Belushi. This was roll-on-the-floor stuff when it was new!

  • JOHN BELUSHI ROCKS!

  • 1:54 EPIC tomato slice WIN!!!

  • lol@splitting deli bread with a headbutt

  • funny but does someone have samurai optometrist sketch? geez it's perfection. john the best still today

  • john is awesome! one of my fave comedians :)

  • I about lost it when he took out his dagger for his honor suicide. Man, they don't make comedy like this anymore.

  • any1 no where i can find belushi in his SANDBOX SKIT PLAYN WITH MINI ARMY MEN? cant find it anywheres

  • @KRAZEEKOZ

You won't find it anywhere, because that was from the ABC-TV's ripoff show, "Fridays" and was future "Kramer", Michael Richards' "Battle Boy" sketch.

He would usually be sitting in a sandbox, wearing a little plastic army helmet, playing with little plastic "army men", usually setting fire to his "sister" Melanie Chartoff's dolls, or breaking the toys of his friend, played by Mark Blankfield.

There has yet to be a DVD release of "Fridays". (Because Richards is a dick.)

  • Hey guys, there's 1 AH who dislikes this LET'S GET HIM!!!!!!!!!!

  • john was the shit can you buy saturday night live dvds from the 70's with him in it

  • Still the best , john R.I.P

  • I had this episode on tape with this sketch, it was funny, but I'm sure if any of the original cast members watched season 6, they would hang their heads in shame.

  • The air date for this was actually January 17, 1976. The Super Bowl X (mentioned 1:44) was the next day, January 18th. Steelers beat the Cowboys, 21-17.

  • How ironic

  • Still funny!! Haaaaaahaha rip belushi

  • You should post Samurai On Campus

  • they don't make sketches like this anymore

  • Anybody else notice the kashira coming loose and the ito start to unravel? lol

  • @ChrisRiley93 nope. what do have, fucking eagle eyes? the resolution was horrible in this vid. whats a kashira and ito anyways?

  • @Alphabex8 A kashira is the pommel/cap on the end of a katana handle. The ito is the cord wrap.

  • @ChrisRiley93 interesting. i have to poop now.

  • @ChrisRiley93 its funny i notice that but what really surprised me was his noto the first time was perfect lol

  • Classic...

  • @drifter696969 ...and very dated. however - SO many people owe their careers to these beginnings
