  • Nice , With sewer gas, nice engineering! And to think Tesla had the plans to get electricity w/no wires at all ... almost 100 yrs. ago!

  • Im in the weird part of youtube again.

  • What is this, National fucking Gergraphic?

  • why are they using water to put out an electrical fire?

  • The manufacturer of the cable is clearly at fault. The insulation is substandard.

  • @urbex2007 No actually the wire was likely fine when it was installed 60 years ago.

  • electrical fire, arking/sparking mad, they another vid on here with alot better flames and a different manhole

  • carbon monoxide isnt flammable

  • @Kiefty "carbon monoxide isn't flammable".

Wrong, carbon monoxide is a product of partial combustion, In the presence of sufficient oxygen it would have become carbon dioxide. If enough oxygen is introduced (plus activation energy) CO oxidises into carbon dioxide. 2CO + O2 → 2CO2

  • @Kiefty Check on wikipedia, I didn't believe it at first but it's highly flammable... Makes sense if you think about it.

  • @Kiefty CO will burn with a very hot blue flame when there is sufficient O2 present.

  • methane, hydrogen sulfide, slow propane leaks from gas lines, oxygen updraft from low-lying discharge pipes, a ignition source such as electrical discharge...and on top of everything protected and insulated by over a foot of solid concrete in some areas....I wouldn't be surprised if one fire caused all manholes around it to pop simultaneously.

  • fake

  • FAKE AND GAY.

  • Manhole cover explosions (AKA poo gas cannons)... Because the sewers light thier own farts too.

  • @ all the Neighsayers of the flammability of CO, this comes right from OSHA

    * Flammability

The National Fire Protection Association has assigned a flammability rating of 4 (severe fire hazard) to carbon monoxide.

    1. Flash point: Not applicable.

    2. Autoignition temperature: 609 degrees C (1128 degrees F)

    3. Flammable limits in air (percent by volume): Lower, 12.5; upper, 74

  • How about this... Dont run wires through drains?

  • @frosty9595: No can do; too much money to plant them separately, and too much disruption if not accessible.

  • since when is CO flammable?

  • Actually, carbon monoxide IS flammable. But extremely flammable? No f$#%^ way!

  • @Jerrycobra: Perhaps you are thinking of CO2, which is not flammable, but CO is always trying to latch onto that second oxygen atom. It's not as flammable as methane (common sewer gas), but it will light and explode if mixed with air before igniting.

  • Flammable CO. Fail.

  • Carbon Monoxide? Don't you mean Methane?

  • Obviously thers a volcano under there !,for cryin out loud! Clear the deck!...

  • @doctorwintercold Like that one movie that I can not remember the name of?

  • Oh my god, whoever made this video is spectacularly retarded... electricity "leaking" through gaps in the insulation? flammable Carbon Monoxide? No. I'm sorry, just no.

  • hey man it seems like a plausable explanation.

  • @guysumo: Voltage ratings on wiring rates the ability of the insulation to prevent sparks. Insulation that worked fine when new changes when it gets oxidized by ozone, sunlight (UV), chemicals and just plain old aging. When it gets oxidized, not only is the rating lowered but it gets brittle and cracks. "Leakage" is a poor way to express it, but sparks do occur at high voltages (even at low ones), as well as shorts and hot wires.

  • "Carbon monoxide... And extremely flammable gas"! CARBON MONOXIDE FTW!!!!!!!!!111!!!11!!

The maker of this video is possibly too stupid to try and act intelligent. Carbon monoxide is far from a flammable gas

  • Although the maker of this video is a retard, Carbon monoxide does have a flashpoint. The flashpoint for CO is 40,000 ppm

  • @samsungcudrie: well, believe it or not, expert, but CO is flammable. Not as flammable as methane (sewer or natural gas), but it will explode if ignited mixed with air.

  • "Hungry rats"!

  • I saw one cover flying while I was driving in Astoria! It landed on a car 30 feet from me.

  • hahahah, poor rats. :P

  • i actually saw one go off at my old school, all i saw was a a huge plume of grey smoke and a deafning boom. i was scared as hell! lol

  • Electricity hungry rats!

  • @Plataea: Ever had any? When they get hungry they'll eat anything, even if it isn't nutritious in the slightest.

  • really? THAT'S why new york has been getting alot of accidents and stuff? wow i never knew that

  • every one knows new york was built on top of the gates of hell. duhhh

  • The manhole exploded on my birthday :D hehehe

  • sry! told my dad not to eat at longhorn!

  • Someone had to much flamin hot cheetoes.

    xD

  • xD!!!!!

  • Damn i would have to agree

    or blazing buffalo Doritos

or something must of hurt there ass

  • I know right?

    LOL.

  • I bet all the conspericy nuts are going to say manhole explosions are the goverments falt too..

  • at least spell fault right

  • Isn't it weird how people trash talk each other over the internet. Wherever you go, what ever you look at. Anything with a comments page, someone is always falling out and pretending to be the worlds toughest guy!.

I tell ya though it's fun to watch he he!

  • Eh, it gets tiresome after a while.

  • @callumvandamme It is called trolling... People who have no lives get thier 15 minutes of fame in the form of ritualistically ranting at random while being protected by the total anonimity that the internet provides to them.

  • @callumvandamme On the internet, no one realizes you're a human.

  • @callumvandamme yeh i know.. youtube will suck more without trolls they've been around so long i realized they are interesting species they tend to attract new youtubers without accounts to sign up and reply to an idiotic comment only to realize they've been trolled.

  • CO is highly flammable, but the culprit in this case is the methane that builds up in the sewers.

  • Comment removed

  • CO is a gas it's one carbon and one oxygen it's in car exhaust and forms from incomplete combustion.

You must have flunked middle school science.

Methane commonly builds up in sewers since rotting organic matter ie crap produces methane.

  • Comment removed

  • @Membrane556: ... and it just loves to find itself another oxygen so it can be CO2. That knowledge might save your life some day.

  • Methane gas not carbon monoxide.

  • carbon monoxide is not highly flammable

  • yes it is i work for con ed and yes it is

  • erm no!

  • carbon monoxide is flamable, carbon dioxide isnt

  • neither are flamable moron

  • calling someone a moron over the internet makes you tough eh? does it fill you with that feeling that you finally accomplished something? trying to make up for your lost childhood? well either way, i said carbon dioxide is NOT flamable... you told me that two of the specified gases are not flamable when i myself said that one wasnt. your what i like to call a pussytroll, you act tough and want to be right all the time.

  • lol

  • lost childhood? you moron!

  • ok tough guy

  • Haa haa. You guys are so pathetic. No honestly, you are really pathetic. I mean, I bet you are even finding this offensive.

Have a biscuit, that might cheer you up.

  • have yourself a biscuit and fuck off!

  • I did, this morning in fact; it even had raisins in it.

Can I just say, you are REALLY, Really tough! No honestly, I am not kidding; you are THE coolest guy in the entire world.

With your small sentences, bad grammar & spelling; your inaccurate decisions and not forgetting your highly rated stupidity, you make a perfect candiate to your country.

Wow, you really are something arn't you.

    Have a medal big boy.

I see you found this offensive as I stated in my past comment. Twit.

  • lol

  • just lol

  • No, CXarbon monoxide.. Think about it.. its produced from running engines and improperly vented gas appliances.. Thats why everyone is buying carbon monoxide detectors for their houses, just in case their furnace or something develops a problem or a bird blocks up the chimney, causing products of combustion to leak into the house...

  • The temperature in an arc blast can reach 35,000 degrees F. The green flames are from copper burning.

  • amazing that must be atleast 1500 degrees ive never seen those shades of fire before. It has to be hot

  • Carbon monoxide flammable?? Don't think so!

  • Yes, carbon monoxide will combust if theres a good enough spark, you should have payed better attetion in chemisty!!

  • weird, I thought Carbon Monoxide was a by product of combustion

  • you might be thinking of Carbon Dioxcide?

  • @REWYRED: It is. A product of PARTIAL combustion, and it would so much enjoy finishing if you'll only supply the oxygen and the heat.
